Dungeon 10 Turn 6
————
Ricki goes to the upper left room and attacks the wolf spider, taking it out in one blow. She takes another 2 damage in the process, but with the nearby spider dead, the burned drider suddenly seems disoriented…
Lara returns to the right room and finishes off one of the spiders that attacked her previously. Again, she takes no damage in the process thanks to her enchantments.
Now: Lara attack drider by archives. Ricki loot locked chest. If necessary, drop the torch and a thieves’ tools. End your turn on the flow below the drider.
Lara should get hit by the giant spider (max 6 damage) giving her +9 def, meaning she won’t take damage from the Drider this turn.
Following turns:
T8: Lara keep attacking drider by archives — probably takes 3 hp worth of damage here, leaving her with 6. Ricki loot unlocked chest by drider.
T9: Ricki point out trap for Lara, Lara interact with archives.
If we’re lucky and Lara 1-shots the Drider, we may be able to pull this off:
T7: Lara KILL drider by archives, Ricki loot locked chest
T8: Lara barrage spooder, Ricki Unlock door
T9: Ricki loot skelechest, then point out trap by archives. Lara archives
And what if the archives activates a secondary objective?
LSN has listed it as the primary objective and as per the rules page, it ends the dungeon immediately. If he changes that then we would never be able to finish it under 10 anyway.
It’s pretty unlikely. As others have pointed out, we’ve never seen a goal completely change (the Warrens was closest, but the goal was always “do a thing and exit” — the thing that changed was the exit, not the goal).
If it happens, we’re looking at either abandoning on t10 or dealing with whatever happens. But there’s not a lot we can do about it at this point. Assuming the change of goal involves the 4th room, that’s a LOT of actions required to do anything about it at all, so we’d have to hope that whatever Wrath of Goddess occurs allows us to make it happen.
We know we have to kill the drider by the archives to finish the dungeon. We also want to grab some loot. This tries to balance those while still getting us to “dungeon complete” before t10.
If we’re very very lucky, we may have a shot at the chest guarded by a pile of skeletons and a tiny spider, but a lot needs to break our way for that to happen — mainly, Lara 1-shotting the drider and the tiny spider. We’ll know which way we’re going after T7.
I am not fully sure what function “End your turn on the flow below the drider.” since next turn we still get in it’s range to loot.
but not like it makes issues for anything so im thumbs up.
(we want to end bellow it NEXT turn to make sure Ricki isn’t attacked by drider and last surviving spider) so i guess paranoia? i can get behind paranoia
And if Ricki takes any more damage, don’t even risk anything. Like if Lara one-shots the drider and Ricki gets two points of damage, I say we don’t even attempt the skelechest because it has an unknown enemy guarding it, which, while small, might be deceptively dangerous. Like maybe its bite does poison damage or weakens defenses.
Pretty unlikely at this point — we’ve taken enough hits from Driders that have been completely consistent in expected output that we’re down to a pretty low % chance of that being random. But also yes, if something seems off we can bail. Future turns are just posted so everybody can see the steps of the plan so it’s not a surprise. We can only vote on the current turn’s actions.
Strictly speaking, we could tell Lara on turn 7 to pop down and get a spider bite for luck and poison defense before returning up to fight the drider (and maybe the drider does deal poison, LSN has gone back and forth on remembering to tell us damage types when the character hit doesn’t have the ability). All combat damage is calculated at once and we’ve totally run through enemies to attack something on the other side.
I still think that the thing on the ground there is the memento Lara left behind. I’m hoping it’s the engagement ring she wanted to give to Indira.
ooh damn I’d forgotten about the engagement ring. That would make a lot of sense.
By “the” engagement ring, I don’t mean to imply that this is a definite ring that we’ve seen in the comic. There was no such ring.
I do know that on I8P21 Lara wanted to run away with Indira, and we know Lara left something behind at the archive room in the temple after she burned the place down.
It’s purely conjecture on my part that Lara figured that the next time she’d try to convince Indira to run away and spend the rest of their considerably extended life together, she’d do it with a nice symbolic gift. She might now want to give that gift to Ricki as the one who gave her life meaning again. Also, there’s a special item category for rings specifically, but I could also see it being a locket or other piece of jewellery.
Just in case it isn’t entirely clear from context, by “End your turn on the floor below the drider.” I mean, the floor below the Drider in room 2, above the skeletons.
Ignore this, Vote for Jerf’s!
” burned drider suddenly seems disoriented”
Hm… this makes me wonder if killing all spiders would release the goddess’s control on the Driders.
Not viable to complete, though.
Seems more likely to me that killing nearby spiders would make it safer to attack the driders. Question is, how near do they have to be? But we probably won’t have time to find out.
This is calling out that it’s the wolf spider that was guarding the ladder, not the burned drider. It won’t attack people climbing the ladder now that there isn’t something to guide it.
It’s also possible that the burned drider deals less damage without a spider nearby.
Both neat ideas, makes sense
Most likely it is just blind and has no service wolf anymore
My horrific thought was that without a guiding spider, they’re liable to remember that they were people, and possibly become less hostile… and here comes in that “mercy” idea
