Dungeon 10 Turn 1
————
Unable to muster any guilt over the burned corpses of drow that litter the room, Lara channels some of her anxiety into violence and chops up one of the spiders blocking the way forward. They attack her in turn, but her supernatural poison resistance kicks into overdrive and prevents not only their venom, but even their fangs from harming her.
Ricki slips past the spiders while they’re occupied with Lara and explores the room above. Lara should know the layout pretty well, but all bets are off once a building turns into a dungeon, so the best thing is to take a look with her Dungeon Eyes.
Ricki sees something unsettling.
It seems some of the burned drow lived long enough to suffer their goddess’ punishment for failure. The twitching creature looks dangerous even in its injured state.
It also looks like a lot of the arachnomancers’ treasures seem to have survived the fire, protected (or inaccessible) behind sturdy locks. Ricki isn’t sure if she has enough time to grab them, but they’re certainly tempting.
Ricki: clear web up. Scout room to right if able.
Lara: move up, attack spider by web.
We know Lara can tank 2 spiders and this clears a path to scout next turn if LSN counts clearing web as an attack.
Ricki: Go upstairs and break the web. Warn Lara about it if she somehow passes you/catches up. If you can do so after breaking the web, continue to the right to the next room.
Lara: Join Ricki upstairs. Wait for her to break the web, then attack the spider with your siegesword.
This gets our way cleared and potentially let’s us see the next room. If we don’t get vision this turn, on the following turn we should be able to have Lara try stinging the cute but probably terrifying little spider safely through the bars of that room while Ricki scouts.
pls do not murder the litle spider.
It might be a pet.
Hmm, I expect that an attack to break the web will keep Ricki from leaving, but webs are clearly traps since they’re hidden without Trap Detection II. I wonder if Disarming the trap would allow leaving the room afterward?
We still have worthwhile actions in this room, so no need to test this yet.
That was the hypothesis on discord, but it also risks losing a thieves tool. We aren’t completely certain breaking the web counts as an attack (they explicitly aren’t an enemy) so seems worth testing.
Ricki: Point out the webs to Lara, wait for her to cut them up, then head right past the spider into the next room.
Lara: Slash the Spider Webs Ricki points out for you.
Both Lara & Ricki can tank a spider bite. Let’s get eyes on the next room to see what we have time to achieve in this dungeon.
I’ve got the lyrics to The Cure’s “Lullaby” song in my head now. Yeah we definitely need to just hurry to the archives ASAP. I’m fine with taking no risks with this dungeon.
That wolf spider looks tempting but the price is too high.
I think that the chibi spider on bottom row is a pet. (even if it’s not it’s gotta be cool item in that chest)
With that in mind:
Ricki: Inform Lara about Weeb trap. Open bottom row door. (and hopefully do not throw away thievs tools. Girl can dream)
Lara: Go to second room and clear the weeb.
Zombie drider is looking directly at the camera, it probably isn’t on overwatch. The wolf spider might leap out and attack someone climbing that ladder, but it only has 2 Attack and no poison.
Chibi spider might actually make that combat safer for Lara. If it adds 7 damage like the Blood Rat, then that’s still a net Def increase assuming there’s poison damage (and those are poison-coloured mandibles). We could get more other chests with the time, but we have limited loot space, so high value targets might make more sense.
Calling it now: The Goddess of Spiders will be using the body Indira gave her as the final boss here. Spitting poison in the face of the old Arachnomancer ways of taking Her punishments onto a willing volunteer, because the new cult changed what this religion is about. Indira wouldn’t like this, but she’s not here to object anymore.
