Dungeon 18 Turn 17
————

Amadeusz retreats slightly from combat and plays his penultimate Dirge. Unfortunately, none of the enemies in the room are defeated by it.
Ricki ignores the rat queen (taking 1 unblockable damage from her attack) and opens the nearby chest, dropping her thieves’ tools to make room for the item within.

Ricki found the Universal Solvent!!

She then leaves the upper crawlspace, returning to the entrance room again. She can see the new patrol of guards hacking their way through the barred door. It seems like it will still take them a little while.

UNIVERSAL SOLVENT
Tool
A relic of a lost age. Can be used to do one of the following: unstick a paper from the background; remove Imperial colours from another item; splash on an enemy to cause them to take +5 fire damage if they take any fire damage on the same turn; splash on self to remove all temporary buffs and debuffs; drink to die instantly. Can be used once per dungeon (it seems like there’s somehow always more).
Weight 1, Cost 100

RICKI: ABANDON DUNGEON WE GOT WHAT WE NEED OUT OF IT
As much as I want to upvote this for comedic effect, Ricki is actually at the entrance and could legit abandon if this comment gets the most votes 😛
I don’t know why I Make Bad Decisions is calling himself Sick this turn, but the rule with his comments is that downvotes are actually upvotes. Or that’s my rule, anyway 🙂
Plan: Final run
Amad: Kill the guard. Use a Tyrant Fang. Loot Corona Shield and move by lever after.
Ricki: Sneak past Rats, avoid the pressure plate and go up the ladder. Continue to sneak past the Owlbear and end your turn at the top of the ladder out of sight (avoid moustraps).
Good News: Locked door buys us at least 2+ turns. Sounds like it will be at least 2 more turns to break through.
Bad News: Not killing guard costs us a turn so I think this makes us even.
Amad has 8 attack, Guard has at least 8 def so we need fang to kill and avoid Guard’s damage getting added to enforcer’s later.
Getting Ricki in position now lets Amad flip his lever next turn so Ricki can unlock Amad’s Door. After That, Amad flips the lever again and joins Ricki and Ricki can lock the door behind him, giving us lots of time to deal with enforcer.
dang, I was going to call out that “dirge” and 1hp is probably too little to finish off the queen considering how much she already got hit, but I was too late 😐 I wonder what drops she could have.. the crown, maybe?
Rat King has a 100% crown drop in the enemies page despite us not having ever lensed him. I suspect Queen is the same.
It said queen “just barely fights on” last turn -_-
Woah universal solvent has so many uses though. Great call on the chest.
Something screwy is going on with the elite guard math too. Maybe chandeliers are random damage or past stats were recorded wrong? Here’s the enemies doc from discord in case anyone sees mistakes: https://bit.ly/Dungeon-Eyes-Enemies-Doc
Claudious plan but maybe save a turn and fang with creativity?
Ricki: Sneak past Rats, avoid the pressure plate and go up the ladder. Continue to sneak past the Owlbear and end your turn at the top of the ladder out of sight (avoid moustraps).
Amad: Retreat more to the rightmost end and flip lever to raise the wall when elite is over it so they get slammed between the legs and/or into the ceiling. Loot corona.
We wanted to flip the lever anyway so worst case we just swapped the order of amad actions around.
I want to like this but I can think of worse worst cases. Like the door gets jammed and Amad is trapped behind it. Or the door is unable to go all the way up so it slams back down right when Ricki is going under it, killing her.
Edited to have Ricki stay on ladder just in case it comes back down after slamming into an obstacle.
Dungeon elements like these lever-walls are pretty tough tho, the only broken one(back in dungeon 11) was with a special item like the golem core bomb that specifically enabled breaking dungeon elements.
I know we don’t want to play with Ricki’s life, but do we really need to use Sneaky here? When Ricki ran past the owlbear on T10 it didn’t attack her.
I mentioned this a couple of turns ago, and Claudious’s answer was that “sneak is necessary to avoid the rats and owlbear combining their attacks.” But what I’m saying is: Why do we think the owlbear will attack if she just pops out of the hole and runs up the ladder, when it didn’t attack the last time she did that? If it doesn’t, then there’s no owlbear attack to combine with the rat attacks. Does that make sense?
Yee looks like you’re right on T10 but the owlbear “!”‘d Ricki just for opening the door on T4 so idk what to think of this
I’m way past wanting to risk Ricky being hit again with how much she has right now, but for my eyes that Owlbear is being systematically drawn rather far away from the hole and ladder. It’s not like he’s waiting for anyone pop out from the hole. I remember enemies staying right ‘at’ the hole/ladder/door be able to attack immediately as out character shows up, but I have a vague memory of enemies that saw us but were further away – didn’t manage to engage (provided they couldn’t climb up/down after us).
I’m too lazy though to walk back all the pages to find similar cases where we run in front of activated-vigilant-enemies to see how far they have to be away to be safe.
