Dungeon 17 Turn 15
————

Ricki and Mac return to the room with the door. Macadamia smifs the powerful magic hat on one of the shelves, creating another new type of ring. This one would’ve helped a lot with all those flying books.
Meanwhile, Ricki examines the giant door with all of its strange markings. She’s surprised to find that what look like solid lines from a distance are actually lines of very small writing in an archaic language, and she’s further surprised to find that after all her recent practice, she can read it! It seems that a recitation is required to unseal and open this door!
But it seems that the recitation needs a second person in order to complete it. Ricki can’t run from one end of the massive door to the other fast enough!
Ricki and Mac both cough up another 1 max HP. They’re getting pretty low…

Ricki & Mac: Do the thing to the door and go through.
OMG. So in fact bond-dungeons do need both people together to accomplish them..
…after all, bond
Yeah, all the people talking about having Mac abandon and Ricki finish I thought were being pretty silly.
Called it! I’m not upset about that ring, though.
I kinda called it to, suggesting that might be red-readable \(^^)/
..and also, infact, it is WR3-2x-readable.. we needed both people maxed, awesome we did exactly that
Yaaay we were missing a ring exactly like this for our ranged attackers ^_^
out of curiosity, I went back and checked what other items were there
* shield (bottom-left room) – still there, seems inaccessible, unguarded
* magicstaff (top-left room) – still there, seems inaccessible, unguarded
* boots (top-right room, still there, no longer guarded by 1 green book)
* sword (top-right room, stil there, guarded by 1 red + 1 blue book)
* armour (top-left room), still there, unguarded
* gauntlet (bottom-left room), destroyed, unguarded
* hat (bottom-right room), destroyed, guarded by 2 red books
If I didn’t overlook something, then in total: 7 items, but only 3 guarded, and guarded by varying defense (1g, 1b1r, 2r). IF there is any difference to the “quality” of those items, then probably the stronger guards, the better smiffing material it was/is.
I hope LSN later tells us how this worked 😀
edit: something is screwing up the formatting in this post, I hope this is OK this time, I’ve edited it, like, 5 times already 😐
I assume that all the ancient items were considered sufficient quality to max out the base ring used, since the items aren’t otherwise obtainable.
I had speculated about accuracy as a ring effect, being paired with ranged damage increase is helpful. Hands items give Ambition for critical hits, I’m guessing a flat 20% chance with ring quality increasing the damage from +2/4/6; worse on average than constant +1/2/3 (though crits do work on both melee and ranged!), but punching through defense is significant. We didn’t quite get to boots rings, I’m still wondering about a +Mov effect; +3 Mov sounds impressive but would be highly limited in practice. I’m fairly confident there won’t be a +Enc effect now, especially with all the bookkeeping mess that would have.
Magic Essence rings seem pretty plausible to grant bonus spell abilities since the Magic Tome can do that. That would however be the only ring type with charges, which incentivizes swapping out the ring when used up. I could also see Magic Essence creating elemental rings which act like the Dragon Robes, since The Research Facility wrapup mentioned that the researchers could create wands from wisps, but there are some items of questionable element like Wand of Magic Missile and Staff of Gravity (plus the nondescript ancient staff in this dungeon).
“seems inaccessible”: Ricki has the Chameluxeon mittens: “While worn, can be used to climb walls and ceilings when using an action to move.” So, if there would be no time limit (or if we had used them earlier instead of actions, which were useless but we did not know better at that time), then they could very well be reached.
Not really, we need to spend a action to climb with those gloves so we wouldn’t be able to smiff mid climb.
Really hope we can finish whats needed in the room in the next 2 turns…
Or that the timer stops ticking down (better air in here?)
let’s hold our breath with Ricky and Mac!
I wouldn’t be too surprised if going through the door just ended the dungeon since opening the door required both Mac and Ricki’s participation, but if it doesn’t we probably won’t have enough time to do anything in there AND escape before Turn 18 (which is when Mac dies).
Best case scenario: dungeon ends right away next turn.
Worst case scenario: there’s another room and Mac and/or Ricki get gobbled up by a wandering monster before they can get back to the entrance.
Middle case scenario: there’s another room, but what we need to do in it only takes one action and we’re able to leave on Turn 17 as part of our Movement.
Risky middle case scenario: same as the middle case scenario, only we leave on Turn 18 and risk Mac coughing up his lungs as we’re exiting.
“Once the condition is met to clear a dungeon, all characters will immediately leave safely even if there are still monsters or traps to deal with, and even if they were separated.” (https://dungeoneyes.com/how-to-play/) If we do that on turn 17, we would not have to spend any move/action/whatsoever to leave. (I prefer to finish before turn 17, mind you!)
Eh, there have been dungeons where we explicitly needed to return to the entrance to complete them, which is really what I meant. Granted I think our missions there were usually along the lines of grabbing an item and GTFO or escaping from something, but I think that could still apply in this case.
Maybe the air is better in the room behind that special door and they won’t lose any more max HP there?
Where is “I make bad decisions”? Shouldn’t he propose to open the two remaining chests first? While we have no time, we also have no free inventory space for loot and one of the chests is even trapped and we are low on HP. So, looks like a really bad decision to me.
Sometimes he gets busy. You can be the bad decisions you want to see in the world!
That should be a bumper sticker…
Agony waiting for updates….
The delay might mean that we finished the dungeon, and LSN needs extra time to make extra art. Fingers crossed.
