Dungeon 2 Turn 29
————
Ricki experimentally pulls on the lever, moving it out of line with the pipe. According to the rudimentary plumbing knowledge of someone who has lived her entire life in tents and jail cells, this might mean that nothing is flowing through the pipe now? Ricki really isn’t sure. She might need to look around or return to the tap to see if anything has changed.
“Hey, do you guys want to help me explore the dungeon?”
“Are you kidding? There’s skeletons and giant snails out there. We’re staying here with the stash until the boss sends someone to pick it up. I recommend not being here when they show up.”
Kamau continues to fight. He hits this time, and the centipede seems to be near death. Kamau still hasn’t taken any damage.
Kamau: Swing batta swing
Ricki: Flip the switch again, then go back to Kamau’s room for now.
It might not be a good idea to tell Kamau about the thugs if we want to stay on their good side. Alternatively, we could tell Kamau, wait for this person they’re expecting, then ambush them? Or maybe it’s the guy who’s knocked out?
Plug for mapped out Dungeon Eyes
Kamau: take off bucket and kill centipede.
Ricki: check body for traps. See if still alive. Search body.
I’m not worried about thug boss. We’ll see him coming and can avoid. Lots of other chests around we can have
A thought occurred to me as I was looking at what the items do. If Ricki is not going to be fighting, she needs to drink the Cheap Ale to get the +1 Def bonus in case something attacks her while she is exploring/moving. The Wand would negate the Miss chance.
Interesting observation. I’ll add one more: the thugs are probably very weak. They are small in size, and they are afraid of skeletons. I don’t know what kind of skeletons they saw, but so far, the one we saw in fight was pretty weak. I stll do not recommend attacking them though.
@LSN: Would it be a lot of work to paste items descriptions on the characters’ stats page? Probably.. so to all other readers, CombatDoctor keeps syncing the map, how about we set up a temporary site with item lore? For example, I keep forgetting what we know about the wand, and keep grepping through previous pages until I find the descriptions. IMHO a good idea. Please repost a link if anyone started such a thing anywhere. If there’s none, maybe I’ll start some Keep/Evernote/Sheet/etc for that
There is an Items tab, were you looking for something more? https://dungeoneyes.com/items/
While we’re talking about notes, my name link is to my notes of enemy stats: https://gist.github.com/KingMarth/2c55735080b5b7a39b1514154a2cb177
Oh, I have no idea how I overlooked that. It’s even in the site menu (oO)
Thanks!
Actually, that was what I was missing. I was also thinking about adding some notes here and there (like, ‘foobar doesnt work on snales’ etc), but IMHO that’s a rare event, if we already have this list there, it’s already great.
King Marth (thanks!) is keeping a record about enemies at
https://gist.github.com/KingMarth/2c55735080b5b7a39b1514154a2cb177
but not an item record.
do you know about https://dungeoneyes.com/items/ ?
Ricki: ask the thugs when they expect the assistance of the boss and what he/she looks like, so you don’t interfere with him/her, if you happen to run into them. Also ask what the boss looks like, even if they don’t expect them coming for the loot. (I’m assuming talking – like inventory swaps – is a free action, so she’ll still be able to move and ranged attack afterwards…)
Then go back though the tunnel, give Kamau your armour (just until he finishes off the giant bug) and the boots. Take dagger from Kamau and throw it at centipede.
Kamau: un-equip bucket, equip boots and armour, attack Centepede.
I want to know what kind of liquid comes out of the tap now (if any), before throwing the switch again.
Also, looking at the character page: shouldn’t both Ricki as well as Kamau have one more “equipment shield” in their stats? Kamau from the bucket and Ricki from the buckler. I mean as long as the values get taken into account during fights correctly, it’s not that important that they are reflected on the character page, but it would be pretty helpful to know where we’re at, stat-wise, if they were correct there, too. 🙂
That would be so awesome if Kamau’s turned out to be their boss 😀
Or even better, if the boss is just a spitting image of Kamau. Then maybe we could fool them into thinking that Kamau is their boss, and get some info/items/assistance from them. XD
I’ve been wary of inventory swaps mid combat, that might expose Ricki to attack. We’ll see, they were fine on turn 21.
I think we should swap defensive equipment in general. Leave the armor on Kamau and Ricki keeps the bucket. With Dungeon Eyes, she might not even be impacted by wearing a bucket on her head, and even with the miss chance she also has the wand of not missing.
I don’t expect Ricki’s attack to change anything as Kamau should finish the centipede by himself on the next attack, but I do still want to see whether a thrown dagger is considered useless.
Nice catch! Dungeon Eyes may really make her immune to effects like that. She already stated that she likes dungeons because she easily “see behind her back” and that when she’s outside the dungeon she feels like heavily handicapped. I personally feel like trying this out just to be sure we understand that properly.
..however, we need to remember that literal reading isn’t always good. Putting a bucket on her head may very well not impact her sight, but the bucket may impact her movements (she’s small, right?), and that may have just the same effect.
I explained this on Discord, but for those who don’t hang out there:
The characters page will generally reflect “optimal” equipment loadouts rather than turn-to-turn changes. For example Ricki carries a dagger and a rusty longsword, so the page shows +2 Atk from weapons even when she’s using the dagger. I’m counting Kamau’s bucket as a “suboptimal” item that is only used situationally because of its big drawback, and not updating his page with the bonus.
None of this is to suggest that there aren’t good reasons to use “suboptimal” items. They’re all in the game for a reason.
I did forget to add the extra 1 Def to Ricki for the buckler though. Fixed.
Kam: Kill the centipede. It has no reason to continue living. Except for dropping rare items.
Ricki: There’s a Snale on the pipe this switch is connected to. Leave it off.
