Dungeon 14 Turn 40
————

With the ringleader defeated, defeating the final two miners offers no real difficulty. Ricki feels as if she is now half way to shutting this place down.
The spoils of battle include three picks, a suit of chain armour, a deadly dagger, three silver rings of aggression, three silver rings of protection, and gold rings of aggression, protection, and evasion. It seems the ringsmif was able to wear all three at once. Ricki takes the dagger after dropping her thieves tools, Kamau takes the gold rings of protection and evasion after dropping his spare silver rings, and Macadamia drops the meat he’s carrying.
Pan: prep and heal
Botania: mend kamau
Kamau and Ricki: grit. We can do this!
Mac: pick up the 3 silver def rings, 2 plain gold rings, smif hammer, tongs and the last gold enchanted ring. Drop one rope and the atatl to make room.
Gets kamau to as much hp as we can. Mac fills up on rings.
We can deal with the kobolds below after.
So we didn’t get a clear weapon to kill king and I don’t think we have the time or resources to experiment.
Only viable option I can see is flipping turtle lever and using rope as a shortcut to get down to lowest level safely and use bomb to blow last lock. No guarantee it would work but I feel it’s the only chance we have
If that’s the case, should we be dropping a rope here when we might need it for navigation?
We still have one to get down from this room. We also left one where paws was so we can grab that on our way to the feeding room
I still think we really should have bought
a squirrelback the lucky paw when Paws was here.Anyways, there’s one more option, quite risky, but possible – right over the room with last lever and the ice lizard, there’s a trap on the floor which -may- be a trapdoor. If we open it and attach a rope, we could go down, wreak havoc there, take a peek one room down, and either take the lower route or get back up.
However, I think we move way too slow to do this with full team now that the ladder was destroyed in the room where Tyrant was jumping. The nearest safe spot is way too far. To do this, Mac would need to keep sounding the horn in lower-left corner to pin the Tyrant far enough, ofc assuming this mechanic still works, and we probably will get our arses kicked by those 3x cold cobolds and cold lizard, especially whitout Mac’s spear.
Oh.. and there’s that kobold ambush on the lowest level, I forgot about them..
Yeah.. the bomb. I hope it will blow the lock, or at least make a hole in that door, so we can get it, or the baby can get out to momma.
If Alcor’s theory of the king’s movements is correct,* she should be ending T46 in the entrance chamber. If we hit the downstairs ambush on that turn, we should have two turns before she arrives: one to take out the two tamers on the ladder and one to either climb the ladder or climb back up the rope, depending on whether we’re ready to jump directly into battle against a shocktail and rider. Either way, we should be safe from the king with no one blowing any horns.**
If we opted to skip the shocktail fight, we would then have to just hang out for a couple of turns while the king checked on her eggs, but on T51 we could finally move back past the rider at the bottom of the ladder and see what’s in that last room we haven’t seen yet.
* Which is of course a big if, but hopefully we would catch a glimpse of her on the way down and could then adjust our plans accordingly.
** Unless of course either of the riders down there has a horn…
Honestly, if we can avoid the ambush fight I don’t care what’s in the last room. We know half of it is just tunnel and it leads up to croc.
I hear that. I’m just skeptical that the bomb can penetrate the nest door, even if it’s 2/3 unlocked. And you never know, the tyrant killer might be in that last room.
(That door is designed to keep out a dinosaur that can smash through floors with its head. But the golem bomb’s description specifically says it can’t damage walls or floors.)
Is there any benefit to trying to break nest door instead of nest ceiling? Nest ceiling is a standard wall, so more likely to break, and Mommy can’t access that area as easily.
Okay, sorry for asking possibly silly/already answered questions, but:
robe – no idea
ceiling trap – I saw it too and it looked sus, but after staring at it for some time, I’m pretty sure it’s just a wavy color line of the background
Robe is on golly for some reason .
The ceiling trap just looks like the background being covered by the floor at a strange angle that looks odd.
PREAMBLE
It’s a longshot that people would want to vote for this, but I want to prep our party for as much damage as possible so we can take out the next couple of encounter asap, which involves a full round of trades. Kamau is getting two sets of Rings, two Gold Atk and two Gold Def so he can swap between them as needed, he is our Sword and Shield. Ricki is mostly just excess inventory, but her Atk is getting a bump as well in exchange for slightly less defense. Macadamia is getting a Tyrant Fang and Botanya is getting a Horn so that once we clear the Salveshell room, we can SAFELY test out the fangs on the Tyrant King by having Botanya blow the horn (causing the King to jump) and having Mac & Ricki throw the Shocktail & Death Dagger with fangs attached to see if they do anything. Based on the Tyrant’s description, the hint the escaping Kobolds gave us and the fact the King even has an HP and Def stat makes me think the Fangs will disable the King’s damage immunity for that attack. If they don’t, then we truly know that the King is unkillable and can fall back onto the egg smashing plan without much time or resources wasted.
ACTIONS
Ricki: Drop 3 Raw Meat on the flammable looking table. Give a Tyrant Fang to Mac. Give Mac your +2 Def Ring. Pick up the Enchanting Hammer.
Kamau: Give your 3 Gold Dodge Rings to Mac. Pick up the +3 Atk Ring on the floor.
Mac: Drop a Rope. Loot 2 of the Gold Rings on the table. Pick up the 2 +2 Def Rings on the floor. Pick up the Ringsmif Pliers to stow on Golly. Give Kamau a +3 Atk Ring. Give Ricki a +3 Atk Ring. Give Botanya your Horn.
Botanya: Trade Kamau your +3 Def Ring. Pick up a +2 Def Ring on the floor and wear it. Give Mac Ricki your Midas Gloves.

I completely understand your view and idea, and in overall I like how you set up the equipment, but not the King experiment.
Doesn’t Tyrant-fangs explicitly say they deal unblockable damage, and King’s description explicitly says it’s invulnerable to unblockable damage as well?
The whole idea is basically based on the description of the fang, saying “said to be able to pierce anything”, and guessing it may bypass explicit King’s description..
I wanted to say something smart like, that “maybe we need to feed the Tyrant with enough cigarettes so he looses 1 hp 50 times” but even the cigs say they deal “1 unblockable damage”, they don’t say “lose/pay/expend/sacrifice/etc 1 hp”, so it couldn’t be used to bypass the unblockable-dmg resistance.
To be honest, I don’t like the plan to experiment with the King.
Can we really afford getting bitten + AoE splash to test this?
Maybe there’s something very-important in the last room that we didn’t see. Like, poisoned food that causes HP loss but not “damage” or potion that disables resistances for 5 turns. That would be probably the easiest thing.
Maybe instead we should prepare the rope-shortcut, set up Ricky for high-defense and high-evasion, and send her to scout the last room? That means passing once through the “kobold ambush” on the lowest level, ending move in a newly explored room, then getting back past “kobold ambush” again. If we time it right, when we’re sure the King goes up-left, Ricky won’t meet with him, even if there’s a guard that calls the King back immediately when Ricky enters. But can she survive passing “kobold ambush” two times?
I know King says immune to unblockable, but as stated, I think we’ve been given multiple hints that the fangs are used to defeat him.
1st Hint: “teeth that can pierce anything.” from the Tyrant’s enemy description.
2nd Hint: The original male Tyrant disappeared after it started messing with the babies, implies that the mother Tyrant took it out.
3rd Hint: The Tyrant has an HP and Defense stat. If it was immune to everything with no recourse, then there’d be no reason for it to have either of these.
We wont get bitted or take AoE splash from the test. Check D14T31. Ranged attackers like Mac were perfectly safe. Melee attackers like Kamau, Ricki and the Kobold Miners were dealt 1 unblockable damage from the splash and were shunted away. No melee attackers, no damage.
Maybe. Doesn’t mean we can’t do the test.
We’re still gonna be doing the rope shortcut, but Ricki is not going through that huge squad of death kobold relying solely on dodge. That requires at least an interposing Kamau and a Mac blowing the horn to keep the trex occupied elsewhere for a while.
Often 1 melee attacker + 1 ranged attacker means no damaged to ranged, but 1 ranged + 0 melee means damaged to ranged unless it can’t reach (since there’s no one to hold it in melee)
Not really relevant in this case. It would be attacking the floor and crashing through it, like in D14T31.
Interesting idea. I have not thought about it. That actually could work without the risk of being bitten if we place people well, or we’d just fail to attack the Dino, who might have role-playing immunity of someone appearing and disappearing too fast to be shot. But, yeah, I now see how this plan could work! thanks!
If we’re dropping raw meat, might as well drop it on table in case we want to try Darus’ cooking idea later.
Not liking experimenting with death dino after losing dauntless but ehh you usually know what you’re doing.
Next turn lets ask Sue to carry some stuff for us. The excess rings and the rope, for instance.
This would cost an action and have 0 benefit. Unjoined characters don’t do stuff for us. That’s been shown repeatedly.
If we really, really want Sue to help we could have Mac dip or Kamau remorse out.
