Dungeon 13 Turn 5
————
Lara reads the nearby note.
“Gather holy wisps at this location for convenient pick up by patrols.”
She then returns the way she came to what appears to be the central room of the dungeon, running past the solar guardian again but taking no damage.
Ricki heads up to join Cordy in reading the notes in the upper hallway. She reads the leftmost one, while Cordy reads the rightmost.
“Experiment 63: devastatingly powerful, unnaturally resilient, impossible to control, contained at terrible cost; experiments with death element have been officially discontinued.”
“Hellhound and winter wolf creation appears to be stable, but the obedient nature of the base animal does not seem to carry over. Recommended to experiment with strays henceforth rather than waste trained animals.”
Amadeusz attacks the pair of skeletons, defeating the one in the back without taking any damage from its crossbow. However, the other’s dagger flashes black as it attacks, and Amadeusz takes 1 unblockable damage.
Ricki helps Cordy get to the uppermost ladder without triggering a trap, then runs past the remaining skeleton to the room on the upper right.
Ricki finds a room with weird machinery and a bunch of guards and skeletons.
Guards: stay vigilant. The reports of the goblin infiltrator are being investigated. Daily checks of the wanted posters are mandatory. Delays will not be tolerated. Glory to the Emperor.
Plan: clean house.
Ricki:. Move left and point out pressure plates to group again. Move right and case the guard with the staff.
Lara: Show off you climbing skills and walk along the ceiling (via the right wall if need be) and accidently avoid that trap. Move up and as avoid the pressure plates Ricki points out. Attack the Skelly
Amad: attack the Skelly. Stowe the tower shield and plate on golly.
Cordy. Avoid the traps and read the last note.
Everyone end your turn on the upper floor.
This should prep us for the assault on the rightmost room. We will have an idea of the staff powers and can plan accordingly.
Amad and Lara need to team up to take out Skelly since it has plate and tower shield.
I’m feeling paranoid about the trap timing >.<
Like, I’m not sure Ricki can point it out before Cordy reads if she is doing her own action elsewhere first? I recall we got screwed over by that before.
Can you have Ricki come back to point traps first THEN return to staff room to case?
Also, we lack inventory for all the loot. We only have 2 Lara slots left after plate and shield and there’s the deadly dagger, crossbow(2 weight) and at least 1 stack of bolts.
I think the time we got screwed over with trap timing was when Ricki just moved, pointed out trap, then moved back. I think what you’re proposing is more likely to cause the traps to screw us accidently since she isn’t ending her turn in the trap room
Also, Cordy is reading the note right next to him and does not require crossing a trap
Cordy ended turn on the left of the uppermost ladder after reading the note.
I searched for it in discord and this is what LSN explained:
“Lara can’t take her action while Ricki waits, then everyone goes into another room and takes their action”
So I think the current order won’t work because Cordy can’t wait for Ricki to take her action(case) before taking theirs(read) and Cordy needs to avoid a trap before reading.
Maybe we should confirm with LSN, I’m really paranoid about losing the mushroom for nothing.
I’m glad you for the reference since I wasn’t sure myself. I’ve edited so Ricki moves, helps then moves back and cases
I don’t think Ricki should leave the room after pointing out the traps. I don’t make notes and I’m not on discord, but I remember that Molly died because Ricki wasn’t in the room, even though she pointed out the exploding trap before leaving.
Edit.

– How Ricki helps people avoid traps: She must be with them. Even with the move to get over, actions happen at the same time so taking actions elsewhere may keep from helping. If they’re in the same room or Ricki moves from elsewhere to take action with them then more likely to help.
iirc the trap will trigger if ricki isn’t in the room at end of turn or preforming an action there
At this point, I can’t edit. But if the trap does trigger then we won’t have to worry about moving back and forth again, and it will be Lara who triggers it and has lots of hp. So maybe it’s for the best ?
Ricki: I’m pretty sure experiment 63 is the new party member. Go ask the big skeleton if he’s experiment 63.
Only our own skeleton can talk (even if Cyx rarely says anything worthwile, like you)so it’s a pointless task.63 is most likely the Owlbear.
I do NOT like the shape of this dungeon. Lower-left corner: rounded. Top-right corner: rounded. 3×3 square-ish design. The closer thing to “circle dungeon”. What if the whole dungeon is a circle, or we’re looking from a side as through a circular hole. We may be in a sphere. Like a *huge* blast chamber, i.e. in case the central tank exploded. Or like a huge golem’s belly. And what you’d find inside? A powersource, preferrably in the middle, and some pipes to legs/arms? I hope this corner-rounding is just an artistic decoration.
Also I have an idea what the red pipes are meant for. I think they may be meant to dump the wisp-containers, like a pneumatic-mail in warehouses. They suck the wisp in, and instead of carrying the container – they just push it into the pipe, and off it flies outside and is caught by a less-battle-hardened team there.
Hmm.. I just noticed the rightmost pipe seems to go straight through a container, and a valve just below. Odd. I wonder, what has priority? If the valve is open, does the wisp go into container or ‘falls’ down through valve?
OTOH, the lever seems clear. It either selects left/right container, OR, opens Subject63’s door? 😀
Whooo.. This chest on the ladder is open and it does not have the LID!
Does it look special? It looks as if it was meant to blocks or hides the bottom part of the ladder. We might need to push it aside to go further down. Pushing it means being attacked by the guards to the right.
There must be *very* interesting things there down below. Not important enough to be removed or guarded separately, but interesting enough to make an obstacle for intruders.
We already know what’s below that odd chest. It’s the room with valve and broken pipe and three fire-hounds. Who’s got fire extinguisher, or at least ovens and magma shield?
Room beneath the chest has the cracked pipe. I assume thats where the big group of various wisps came from. I expect more cracks with more big groups of wisps like that around them every 10 turns.
It looks to me like perhaps the guards opened the chest in order to be able to move it and they pushed it on top of the ladder/opening in the floor to prevent the wisps down there from coming up here. But hey, that’s just my interpretation of what might have happened. The Note by the opened chest might explain the situation.
The Research Facility seems to be one of the most ‘controlled’ designs we’ve seen since dungeon 1 (dungeons tend to be rather chaotic and nonsensical) so I’m wondering if it is somehow under more control than usual or is just a recent/young dungeon.
The corner rounding does seem to indicate the limits of the dungeon, so perhaps there is magic involved that keeps it from getting larger and that magic is in the shape of a circle/sphere.
I’ll take a gamble,& say the owlbear below Ricki is Experiment 63.
And,according to the note,it will attack the guards AND our party.
Release it as a distraction: Yay or Nay?
When the time comes.
I’d suggest using a Magic Lens before releasing the Death Owlbear, just in case its stats and Abilities are really insanely strong.
Suits me.
Plan – scout last safe room
Ricki: go left, point traps, unlock door
Wolf: attack death skeleton
Cordy: read last note, climb the ladder, avoid the trap right to the ladder
Lara: Go up one room, walk on ceiling to avoid the trap in your way up, go to attack death skeleton with Wolf, avoid the 2 traps in your way
Next turn we can send Ricki to case the guard with staff, Cordy will scout to the left, and Wolf+Lara will hit the big skeleton to the right so we can loot his chest.
