Dungeon 12 Turn 4
————
While Ricki goes to join Amadeusz below, Cordy uses Spore Touch on the remaining rat to create a second pet (which, again, they can keep or send away). They also find four rat tails, which they keep. These things keep being useful for some reason.
Lara takes two clumps of oxymoss off the wall.
Amadeusz fumbles around until he finds the latch on the chest he can just barely see the outline of. Inside he finds a greater healing potion, which should come in handy.
Ricki uses a magic lens on the frog. Looks like she’s probably going to be its favourite food in her current party! Hopefully Lara will always be on hand to kiss her I mean rescue her.
Lara returns to the entrance.

GIANT BULLFROG
HP: 8
Atk: 6, or 3 at range
Def: 4
Ability: pulls targets of ranged attack close, swallows Small targets to prevent escape and inflict -2 Atk and Def, aquatic
Amphibians grown to enormous size aren’t uncommon in dungeons containing significant amounts of water. Though they aren’t especially powerful, they are dangerous for smaller creatures. They target these creatures preferentially, but their favourite food appears to be giant flies, insectoids, or any sort of giant insect, arachnid, bug, etc. Since they attempt to crush a creature they’ve swallowed before they attack anything else, this can be used as a strategy to sneak past them if effective bait can be acquired somehow.
Hmm, but does it swallow Tiny targets? If so, mushroom pets could be a great bait.
Or we could try to bait it into fighting the scorpions and/or baatles
Pure speculation, Lara took 3-4 poison damage from the water, and it’s 1 point per poison pustule, which will (may?) spawn every 10 turns. So as we clean them up, the water may get safer
I’m reminded of a fable.
Scorpion comes to a river he needs to cross but he cannot swim. He sees frog on the river edge.
“Frog,” says Scorpion, “would you carry me across the river on your back?”
Frog takes a step back. “Of course not!” Frog says. “If I carry you on my back you’ll sting me.”
“Don’t be absurd,” replies Scorpion. “If I sting you then you’ll stink and I’ll down. You’ll be perfectly safe.”
Frog can’t find a flaw in the logic and allows Scorpion to climb on his back. Halfway across the lake, Scorpion stings Frog.
“Why Scorpion?” Frog asks before he sinks. “Now we’ll both die.”
“I know,” said the scorpion, “I did it because it is in my nature.”
Anyway I think everyone should move to the room with the scorpions and try to ride them.
I’m…sure that someone has enjoyed you retelling that bible story (AFAIR that’s the origin)
Pretty sure it’s a Russian Story
Maybe, but the info I’VE been exposed to says that it was in the bible.
Are you sure you haven’t just heard it referred to as a parable and assumed it was in the Bible? A quick Google search shows it’s not in the Bible.
I know I’m late, but just to add: the info I’ve been exposed to says it wasn’t in the bible. That info, specifically, is the bible.
Also, looking it up, I found https://www.alittlebithuman.com/the-scorpion-and-the-frog-interpretations-and-takeaways/ which says “The first known appearance of this fable was in a Russian novel from 1933 called The German Quarter by Lev Nitoburg.”
Also, it’s fairly similar to the story of “The Farmer and the Viper”, one of Aesop’s Fables.
…also, that should probably have been a reply to Bruno.
oooh youuuuu 🙂
Plan: frog, bait, wolf and barricade.
Cordy: assign new mushy to Lara. Go smash the barricade
Ricki: move up. Smash barricade
Amad: transform to wolf.
Lara: move right, move down. Swim across water and attack frog.
Lara’s shroom: attack frog and accept your fate as its last meal.
Idea here is to have Lara check if swimming across the water agros the fish (there is an ongoing debate). Using the small mushy to bait the frogs attack to prent dmg to Lara if fish do attack. Frog is not poison immune so mushy death will make a new one.
Amads uselessness is now going to be slightly better. There are no good dirge spots so might as well.
I concur.
Oh god fccking damnit.
Not to sound like a moping asshole, but I ended up openin WAY too many Opera tabs (like >175 probably) & this + a few other webcomics are the straw(s) that broke the camel’s back…
NOW I have to wait an hour till my PC calms itself,& I can restore Opera & put it in sleepmode.
I vote for Lara to explore DOWN then LEFT.
I take it you guys didn’t like my suggestion for Lara?
Correct. I think a lot of people want her to go try to kill the poison spewer next? That’s what I’m hoping we’re headed towards.
Hi, I hope it’s not too late for this little improvement to Claudious’ plan I just thought of. We know for sure Ricki+a mushie is enough for a barricade so lets get some damage in on the next one!
Ricki: move up. Smash barricade 1
Cordy’s shroom: Smash barricade 1
Cordy: assign new mushy to Lara. Smash barricade 2
Amad: transform to wolf.
Lara: move right, move down. Swim across water and attack frog.
Lara’s shroom: attack frog and accept your fate as its last meal.
I forgot that Mushy Death will spawn a new Mushy so this plan is better than original
Cordy doesnt get a new shroom in the original plan above. This one just has the Shroom Cordy already has help break down the first barricade so we can guarantee some damage on the next barricade. Which is technically a direct improvement.
