Dungeon 12 Turn 2
————
Lara climbs/swims back up the well, passing by the fish again but also again resisting both their damage and that of the poison. Cordy assists by finishing one of the fish off with a second blast from the venomous wand. They also release some spores to cause a little mushroom to sprout from the body. Cordy can keep it or send it to another character.
Lara continues to the right, following Amadeusz.
Amadeusz plays a Hurtful Dirge, damaging most of the creatures in the room (even though he can’t see a lot of them). This causes the nearby plague rats to attack, but they seem to decide Ricki and Lara are bigger threats than Amadeusz for whatever reason. Lara ends up taking 2 damage (avoiding more due to the effects of Zing and Thrum), while Ricki successfully dodges the two rats that come after her.
However, she fails to dodge the frog as she tries to run past it. It eats her alive.
Lara quickly retrieves her girlfriend from inside a giant amphibian.
Could have been much worse but we learned a lot this turn.
Plan: Trim Rats, get moss info and scout
Ricki: Point out poorly copy/pasted ladder rung to Amad. Attack rat 1
Cordy: Move Right and attack Rat 1 (Ricki’s rat) at ranged with Sting. Avoid other rats
Lara: Kill rat 2
Amad: Avoid maybe trapped ladder wrung. Examine blue wall moss. Scout down after.
Mushy 1: Stay with Cordy
Gets us another Mushroom and Cordy+Ricki can make more the next few turns safely when Lara resumes her swim.
Rats have 3 attack so we want to split attacks again this turn to avoid them all ganging up on Ricki.
Who gets the mushroom Cordy created this turn?
Cordy keeps the new mushroom as well.
Amad can’t avoid any traps unless Ricki points them out to him.
Pointing them out isn’t an action. It’s sorta implied by this post that she points it out, but if Claudious can edit to make it clearer that would probably be for the best.
I have edited for clarity.
OK, this time the baatles have an exclamation point while the beaver doesn’t – ? Maybe only arthropods get aggroed by dirges? And the blobs aren’t affected, which I was expecting, but the fish aren’t either – ?? I guess that means they’re not “enemies”?
Thank goodness Lara was able to finish off the frog by herself. Sorry I suggested dirging though. Claud was right; we should’ve waited until after getting past the frog. Now we have to spend time fighting plague rats.
Also, I had a thought:
Maybe on T10n poison fills the well completely, then drains away somewhat randomly (although probably filling more of the dungeon spaces each time). So some of the places that are submerged now might be dry on T11, and vice versa. And if the central shaft dries up, Lara might be the only character able to get across it.
Also, wow, Dodge in action!
Dirge is interesting mechanic. If no one was in sight of rats, maybe they would have engaged frog?
re ” but the fish aren’t either – ?? I guess that means they’re not “enemies”?”
the Dirge is described as affecting “living enemies only”. The fish are clearly undead. The blob-with-smoke doesn’t look like an undead, so it’s probably a furniture-style dungeon feature that we have to destroy for a certain number of actions ofr total damage (like beaver’s wooden dams)
Ah, just a minor detail I overlooked 🙂 Thanks!
re “And if the central shaft dries up”
actually, it can be bad. If our actions not only change the concentration of the poision, but also change the water level, some characters could actually be stuck on the bottom of the well in the now-dry main shaft. I mean, swim down through poison/water, then can’t get swim up back because the water is no longer there? better keep an eye on this option
Something to look out for, but I will point out that Lara has a rope and the ability to walk on walls.
oooh she has a rope! I didn’t notice. That will be VERY helpful in any surprises like that. Thanks!
Kinda weird that the fishies weren’t hit.
The fish skeletons arent alive. Dirge only hits living enemies.
Ahh, missed that. Thank you.
This also means the Purple Spewers (which is what we’re calling them unless a better name is given) aren’t organic, not even a little like barnacles,& we probably won’t destroy them through DPS alone. . .We need to find a rock,or large cork.
No, not necessarily. See the wooden barriers near the beaver? we already have seen them, and we know they can be burnt (torch+time) or hacked away (certain damage points to be made) and the Dirge didnt damage them either.
The Dirge didn’t affect them, but that only means they are not “living AND enemies at the same time”. They could be “living neutral npc” or “nonliving destructible room furniture” or “living organic room feature that we have to destroy but it cannot perform actions so that’s not an literal active enemy npc” or… 🙂
Ricki: Point out the thick ladder rung that totally is a trap to Amadeusz. Return to Plague Rats and Kill Plague Rat 1.
Lara: Absolutely demolish Plague Rat 2.
Cordy: Spore Touch Plague Rat 3. (Spawns Shroom)
New Mushy: Stay with Cordy, and punch Plague Rat 4 to distract it. (Spawns another Shroom from either Ricki or Lara’s Rat)
Amadeusz: Avoid the evil thick ladder rung as you descend. Inspect the blue lumpy thing, then investigate the room below.
–
Similar to Claud’s plan above, but kills an extra Plague Rat at the cost of 1 HP on Cordy, and the life of an innocent shroom that was just born.
I really would’ve thought we’d bring ATLEAST Toaster, since NOTHING says that he would be harmed by poison…I get being worried about our dogs & mule drowning, but the robot?
Ive gone back and forth on whether Toaster would have been a good pick. Toaster prob wouldnt drown, but it is not immune to poison damage, and it seems like the Poison Water does a lot of damage. Probably for the best we did not bring them.
We probably could have brought Squirrel for Amadeusz though. Trap Detection for him and extra cheese for our goblin would have been nice. Hindsight and all that.
OH,HUH….We probably should’ve expected that.
Also wow, that last pic is ADORABLE!
Lara & Cordy, finish off the rats,if Amy can move WITHOUT taking damage or leaving the rats alive before the other 2 kill them THEN go inspect the wooden barricades right below you.Ricki goes south as planned previously(BUT WITHOUT STEPPING ON THE TRAPPED LADDER RUNG).
Also,I didn’t get to say this in the previous page (in regards to Amy’s schemes) but…
AMADEUSZ YOU BASTARD.
Darn no treasure in the frog belly.
Anyway, abandon the dungeon and take Lara to HR to explain what is and isn’t appropriate behavior in the work place. We need to nip this in the bud, some things are more important than an entire town’s water supply being poisoned.
