Dungeon 11 Turn 14
————
The guards abandon their fight with the centipedes, but not before each gets attacked one last time. This provides an opening for Kamau to pull off a perfect cleave, knocking out all three guards in a single swipe (with help from Ricki’s blade and Amadeusz’ song). The guards manage to attack Amadeusz before they lose consciousness, but Phoenix blocks the strikes somehow. The centipedes follow the guards and are now also embroiled in battle with the party, which results in one of them taking minor damage from the tail end of the cleave.
Mac smifs a silver ring of protection out of imperial chain armour and wonders what everyone else is doing right now.

RING OF PROTECTION, SILVER
Ring
Def +2.
Weight 1, Cost 25
That’ll do, chick. That’ll do.
Does anyone have any idea how that happened? I don’t see any stats that Phoenix has that could possibly cause this to happen. Not that I’m complaining, lol
It’s probably some sort of secret/hidden ability. Maybe some kind of % to trigger perfect parry or something.
Either way: Good job, Phoenix! <3<3<3<3<3
It’s just flavor text. The Guards had a combined Atk of 9 and they targeted Amadeusz who had 11 Defense, not enough to damage him. It’s like when Squirrel save Kamau by eating a tomato that was thrown at him on D7T37.
I’m going back through the Guard Outpost and Turn 14 confirms that regular Guards have Atk 1, since base 1 +2 for longsword = Atk 3 for each Guard so three Guards together would be Atk 9 and Amadeusz with a Def 11 (on Turn 14) takes no damage, however if the regular Guards had a base Atk 2 then their combined attack on Amadeusz would have been Atk 12 and the Def 11 Amadeusz would have taken one point of damage (unless it was somehow blocked by some unknown ability of the pet chick Phoenix).
Knowing the base Atk and Def of regular Guards is important for figuring out how combat with groups of them is likely to go.
Also, back of Turn 5 of the Guard Outpost we learned that, “The presence of an elite guard is making the others more effective, it seems.”
Finish current fight and start working towards skeletons
Kamau: finish centipedes (he can do it in one turn by my count, but still start with the one he didn’t damage yet)
Ricki: break web leading to skeletons
Amadeusz: stay close to Ricki and play a tune on Zing&Thrum (to split damage in case of baatle assault)
Mac: just wait I guess
Can’t do much in the room with centipides while they’re alive, so let’s begin with other directions
If you believe baatles wouldn’t attack this turn, Ama can break the web alone while Ricki and Mac trade items.
Also Ricki can simply drop stuff, but I don’t want to do it. We’ve been told keys attrack rats, and it seems very possible that rat spawns happen every 5th turn (now)
That gets Kamau damaged btw
Conservative turn:
Kamau: Stab centipede
Amad: Stab a different centipede
Ricki: stab a different different centipede
Mac: Move up, Smif an imperial shield from the patrol into a ring
For drops: Kamau gets a Hvy Shield (drop longsword). Mac gets glands and anything non-imperial.
Reasoning: Kamau can probably Cleave all 3, but Centipedes will always target whoever is targeting them, otherwise it is random. Moving any character to the Baatles or scorpion risk a parting swipe from a centipede and causing some damage. Since everyone is attacking a separate centipede they should all be fine.
Unless we have some non-combat actions (like trading or werewolfing) we want to do, this is the safest course and frees us up to deal with scorpion, note, door next turn safely.
I chose to smif a shield since we really would like to know if the dodge chance is 5% or 10% per lvl of ring before we start smiffing gold rings (which we can find in basement so soon!)
Are we sure no one could use another silver def ring this dunge? Not an objection, just curiosity.
Since Kamau can cleave all 3 centipedes, and they can’t hurt Ricki and Amadeuz, why not save R and A’s actions to loot glands or some other non-imperial gear the guards might be carrying?
One of the guards downstairs has holy water, after all.
The end of battle looting is a free action. So no action saved there.

Even if dodge is 10%/lvl, I just don’t see situations where it’s better than a def ring, besides unblockable damage ofc
Alternative Conservative turn (ring of def instead of dodge):
Kamau: Stab centipede
Amad: Stab a different centipede
Ricki: stab a different different centipede
Mac: Move up, Smif imperial chain from the patrol into a ring
For drops: Kamau gets a Hvy Shield (drop longsword). Mac gets glands and anything non-imperial.

Moving any character to the Baatles or scorpion risk a parting swipe from a centipede and causing some damage. Since everyone is attacking a separate centipede they should all be fine.

The birbs got musicked to death. They dieded.
I’m playing the world’s smallest violin for them. Oh wait, Amadeusz played a bigger one.
The scorpion did get alerted. See the “!” over his (its?) head?
I think that means he’ll be able to attack whoever gets into his LoS on that very turn, so we should be careful not to get remorse that way.
