“You pretty much know the rest.”
“I left the temple before I burned to death and made my way back to the city.”
“I heard about a chapel that became a dungeon, so I thought if I hid out there the Goddess of Spiders’ punishment would be reversed, or at least slowed down.”
“It wasn’t.”
“So I decided I was going to finish my last pack of cigarettes, and then…”
“…And then you showed up.”
“And I thought, if I’m as good as dead anyway, maybe I can have some fun on my way out.”
“And it IS fun, Ricki. Being with you, and having all these adventures.”
“I don’t want it to end.”
“I don’t want to die.”
“I don’t want to turn into…”
“…I’m still so young.”
“How can I already have ruined my entire life?”
Oh damn the consequences of our actions.
On Discord, LSN reminded us that she used 1 free corruption when we met her (vs the Blob boss in the Chapel), so no, she’s not gaining an eye per point of corruption, it’s just a coincidence, she’s had this many eyes all along.
Oh no I am not saying it’s an eye per point I am saying our willingness to let her take corruption has transformed her to this point. Before, it seems as if she was good until she used all now, however, we are seeing it as a partial thing. The more we take, the more she changes.
i vote we long term use up corruption so Lara face is symetric, the least we can do.
(Note to readers, including LSN): Zuvatan is joking here. His serious proposal on Discord was to set a hard cap on corruption use (five uses total) before her bond dungeon.
She’ll be fine, use ’em all up except one.
Or use up that last one, too, and make her a miniboss for the next adventuring party. We have enough of a stable of adventurers. Plus, where does it say she becomes an NPC when she becomes a spider?
It doesnt say what happens, but LSN has said that we would lose her as a party member (either she dies, transforms into a monster, runs away, we dont know but the outcome is the same).
That is explicitly, by word of author, not what is happening. She was partially transformed when she burned the temple. The ongoing use of corruption is not transforming her further.

Which is not to say that she won’t transform if her corruption maxes out. Just that she is not undergoing ongoing partial transformation. She was transformed into the state we see here when she burned the temple, and there’s whatever happens if her corruption stat maxes out. But there is not ongoing physical transformation at this time.
More than one, she also webbed the tower to climb to the top.
The dungeon 3 wrap-up stream discussed how Lara had been using these powers before we met her, and the listed corruption stat was just for what decisions we made. The implication now is that the cost recently spiked. Maybe this usually takes way more time and the Goddess of Spiders just pushed her to the end, maybe this wouldn’t normally happen at all.
I called out on D3 Report that with the excommunication, Lara might be a special case compared to what usually happens to arachnomancers. She has an idea of turning into something, and the eyes support that hypothesis.
Ricki, emergency comfort modules, ENGAGE! Please!
1,2,3…
Yep. One eye, one point of corruption. Not that I’ve much right to say that given how little I’ve even tried to swing the course of this story or helped…
Don’t blame yourself, it’s a coincidence. LSN clarified that on Discord.
Look how the top eye doesn’t cry, she should get that checked.
Undiagnosed subtle eye issues do lessen your quality of life, like propensity for DROWsiness.
That pun sucked but I love it
Good thing she wont turn into a spider. She will turn into a mushroom :D.
