“Compared to me, who had just been kicked out of my parents’ place for disagreeing with them about I don’t even remember what, she seemed like she had answers. Like she had everything figured out.”
“I was helpless against her.”
“So were a lot of people, but none of them got to know Indi like I did.”
“You might think I’m being naïve about that, but it’s true.”
“I know, because she made me her partner.”
I didn’t think I could love anyone’s backstory as much as I love (the tiny fragments we’ve gleaned so far of) Kamau’s backstory – but this one is turning out to be a strong contender.
