Intermission 5 Page 16

“We have no more reason to think it’s a trap than to think it’s legit.”
“Ricki, you came here at the direction of a person you’ve never met or even seen, who apparently already knows about YOU, and who is offering you the exact thing that you need as long as you do what they say.”
“Well sure, you can make anything sound bad if you phrase it like that!”
“It’s just gonna be another dungeon crawl. I’ve done a bunch of them in the last few days, I know what I’m doing.”
“And besides, I’ve got Kamau and the others! We can keep each other safe!”
“Fine. If it’s really as safe as you say it is, then you won’t have any complaints if I go in the dungeon with you.”
“…Now hold on.”
“What’s the problem?”
“There’s no problem, it’s just… you know, you haven’t done a dungeon crawl before, right?”
“Bah! You have no idea what I’ve done. Anyway, you and the others will be there with me, yes? So there won’t be any danger.”
“But we don’t know what—”
“Can’t hear you! Too excited to get inside this dungeon and take a look around!”
“Now you’re just being—”
“And if you say no, I’ll just go in on my own when you’re not watching.”
“Okay, okay, FINE!”
Lohk has joined the party against Ricki’s will.
Lmao! Rofl! I love lohk.
Aww yea boomer goblin
Woooooo
OOOOHHH she’s a spellcaster healer type!
So how many party members can we have at one time in a Dungeon again and do pets count?
4 members, and pets don’t count, since they are assigned to the party members. But each character can have only one pet assigned, so we shouldn’t assign Daisy to Lara, if we plan to subdue another spider.
Spider can be assigned to any character without pet. Last time we didn’t bother / forgot and it went to Lara.
Nah, it was intentionally given to Lara, D5T10. Mostly for theme, partly because we knew we wanted Ricki to get a dog.
I bet Lohk was just jealous for all the fun Ricky had and maybe a bit lonely with everyone sneaking out all the time. Seriously. After all the badass things she’s done, just sitting in the backalley must have been really boring.
I just took a look at her character sheet. Lol first line: Star Star Face.
MomSenses: and now we know how she got here before us! Now we only have to place Ricky strategically at the finish line, and we can get all the prizes from any race!
Ray of Frost: Like VenomSting, just not upgradeable. Take Lara and some bows, and we’ll just shoot every one in the face, bang!
LohkStaff – One use per dungeon, but we get a free use of something without actually consuming it. But it has to be an item, no cloning skills or magic. Still, I see this may come really handy. Like, making holy-bowling-ball repeatable. I wonder if we can ever somehow get it more uses per dungeon.
Channel 1, so Fireball and Heal won’t improve, but we’ll get more uses. Also, 3 HP can do a difference, but still wont remove Remorse.
MasterWand. This one I don’t get. I’m really curious. What does it mean “unlock its ability”? The wand will be destroyed in the proces, it can’t give any benefits to the wand itself. Wand has to be undamaged, but there’s no mention of charges. So is it some kind of a destroy-the-item-for-an-extra-final-blast? If so, then adding LohkStaff, any wand we take could now be used 2 times more when in pinch. But why ‘unlock’? Geesh. I can think of so many different verbs that would describe it better. Invoke. Activate. Cast. Even just ‘use’. Maybe ‘unlock’ means that Lohk can learn new spells from the wand, and be able to spend Channel points on new effects other than Fireball/Heal?
That was my first interpretation of that.
If that is true, it’s mostly good for wands where we like the effect but don’t want to commit the inventory space of carrying it around. For things we regularly want to use it’d be better to have the wand use its own charges instead of Lohk’s channel charges
We haven’t seen Lohk’s level up abilities yet, and there could very well be an option like “channeling proficiency” that upgrades her channeled spells like poison proficiency for Lara. There’s also the chance that she’ll have an ability that boosts channeled spells based on equipment. All of this is just to say that it’s too soon to assume those abilities can’t be buffed by level ups.
I just want to say that “Mom Senses” could actually be a powerful multiuse tool. Think of the different scenarios it would be useful for:
There is, however, one downside…
Combos well with Sneaky, if Ricki uses it to get into trouble Lohk can always show up to help. Mom Senses also only mentions using Mov, Lohk should still be able to take an action on arrival.
Tricky to find the right place to use once-per-dungeon abilities, though.
Alright, now leave Lohk outside so she comes in on her own and everyone gets to do this dungeon!
Nope, think one of the dungeon conditions here will be to bring Lohk. Need to pick someone to leave out. I think this was here just in case we failed to recruit one of the others, or if Macadamia had died.
I do want to start smiffing and see Macadamia’s level up choices. I’d leave Lara, but she could take Kamau’s armour and we could field a full darkvision party which can also deal 5 damage at range repeatedly.
The Fire Robes will let Lohk deal minimum 4 damage with Fireball. We should also give her the wand of Death Touch, if it is so-so then we can feed it to Lohk to figure out the details of Master Wand. I agree it’ll probably give her the wand’s ability as a Channel ability, but maybe if it’s an infinite-use wand like Magic Missile or Mend she’ll just get the ability as infinite use, sort of getting more inventory space. A wand of Fireball or wand of Heal would be nice to get…
I bet it gives her the ability with no restrictions like her existing 2 dmg ice ray. The wands we’ve seen thus far have abilities that would never be worth using a channel slot on, so master wand would have to improve the wand ability when it is learned (weird, and would then make heal useless in the case of mastering mending) or it has to give the ability to use for free/outside of the channel cost system.
I’m personally in favor of leaving Kamau behind, but acknowledge that it’s also a risky move. Interpose I’d a great panic button if nothing else, and we run the risk of encountering a situation we can’t handle safely without. The chance to plateau Lara’s bond is too good to pass up though, imo.
I’m more curious how we would play without needing to watch every possible point of damage. With a Wand of Mend we can reliably get back from low health, and Macadamia would have an action to spend on healing. It’s better not to get hurt in the first place, but we can generally make dangerous situations safer by taking out weaker enemies.
Lara with full plate and the magma shield would still have 9 Def, but this really comes down to how enemies split attacks without Interpose to force them all to one target. I think that we’d usually be fine, but the margin of error on Remorse is too thin to make experimenting comfortable.
On one hand, I kind of like the idea of giving all the other characters a chance to gain more bond (since Kamau hit a temporary cap on bond), but on the other hand, I’m not sure if we should go into any dungeon this far along in the story with such limited inventory space.
Macadamia and Lohk each have only 5, Ricki (as of now) 7 and Lara 10 (sum = 27, whereas we had a sum of 34 inventory slots available in the Kobold warrens and still had to leave tons of useful stuff behind, for the guards to grab). So Kamau’s 12 whopping slots of inventory (11, if you substract one for the hilt, that he won’t give away) will definitely be sorely missed. Especially since we won’t be allowed to swap/exchange equipment as much as we used to.
For most of the Warrens we didn’t have Macadamia’s inventory, so we got by with 26 slots (5+11+10), and the extra 5 did fill quickly with the extra loot in the basement. Lohk also has her own dedicated item, so she really only has 4 slots to offer. Without Kamau we’d have 26 slots (7+10+5+4), same as when we started the Warrens. Leaving Lara out only gets us one more usable slot. Leaving Macadamia out would get us up to 32 (7+11+10+4). We have also filled most of our equipment slots now.
I think the Warrens was a little unusual with all the enemy equipment, but there were a lot of chests in the Chapel we gave up on because we were full (and low on HP/Remorse). Assuming that the rabbit’s paw lets us summon Paws mid dungeon to cash out treasure (and we’ll be looking for a couple things to smif), I think that should make up for carry space. Really, we want to make sure we use the cool things we find, they don’t do us any good if we hold onto them for later.
One thing it might be important to keep in mind is we can have characters not going in the dungeon carry things we want to keep but dont think will be helpful
Backstory hint for Lohk up on Ko-fi.
Hmm, looks like that eye scar was fresh on the day she ran from that burning place with baby Ricki. She might take care of lots of people, but Ricki really is special. Wonder when she found out about the Dungeon Eyes…
