Dungeon 5 Turn 0
————
Ricki, Kamau, and Lara enter the kobold warrens, ready to face whatever dangers await them.
“Hi!”
“Hello!”
“Are you SURE we didn’t just barge into another random home?”
“Yep! I can see the whole rest of the room! Looks about the same as the last time I was in here.”
“Anyway, let’s see what we can do to help out here!”
The entrance of the dungeon appears to be little more than an ordinary apartment with a family of kobolds living in it. Since kobolds can see in the dark just fine and torches cost money, it also appears that much of this dungeon is dark. Most of the residents nearby look friendly enough and can likely be engaged in conversation. A tunnel ahead leads deeper into the dungeon.

Dungeon 5: The Kobold Warrens
Goal: Help at least one kobold, then gather at the exit.
Secondary Goal: Don’t allow any kobolds to be killed.
Time Limit: On turns 30, 40, and 50 a gang of hoodlums will enter the dungeon and begin searching for Ricki’s party. They may be hostile to other creatures within the dungeon, and may steal loot for themselves.
This dungeon can be abandoned.
Kamau: ask the kobolds by the chests if the need help with anything and if these chests are theirs.
Ricki: Ask the Kobold kids if there is anything she can help with
Lara: Move to the right.
Hmm first step is to talk with who we can I think. If we can get the kids upstairs we can maybe block the ladder with the table so we can leave the first room barricaded and can then explore more.
Edit: How To Play states that when we enter an unexplored room we cant move again. Edited actions so Lara moves and Ricki stays to talk (since Ricki is friendlier)
Gotta get some info from the kobolds, please add more things to talk to them about!
I think talking is a free action so we can double move (Ricki has 2 now!), but I am hesitent from just trying to loot in front of the kobolds. So talking first.
Unfortunately, we can’t double move because “How to play” page says that
Ask them about the chest, and the closet, too.
Side note: I suppose the ball the kids are playing with is not some kind of a cracked-red-ball-from-fire-god-temple? 🙂
The closeup image looks like stitching, not cracks. Looks like a regular ball.
Ricki: move forward and see what’s in the rest of the dungeon
Kamau and Lara: talk to the kiddos. Okay maybe just kamau. Lara: try not to scare the kids
Time Limit: On turns 30, 40, and 50 a gang of hoodlums will enter the dungeon and begin searching for Ricki’s party. They may be hostile to other creatures within the dungeon, and may steal loot for themselves.
Kids by entrance….
maybe we can help by digging small graves?
Should we consider Ricki aware of objectives on meta-level?
cuz if yes then we really need to get those kids out of the way.
Good catch. Let’s ask the kids come with us, I mean, to show us around
Does Lara know about Ricki’s dungeon eyes?
No, only Kamau and Lhok does (and probably mystery letter writer). Kamau did say to keep it a secret from everyone (Kamau actually contemplated stabbing Ricki in the back when he found out.) so It’s probably a good idea to stay hush hush
Don’t think so.
I think she may have at least gotten a hint, because Ricky have just said something strange aloud. But I don’t think she was briefed on this in detail so far.
Everybody: Swap equipment
Ricki: Rat Fang, Leather, Shield, Lockpicks, Rat Tails (5)
Kamau: Kamau’s Hilt, Shield, Longsword, Platex5, Lockpicks, Cigs, Gold (4), Rat Tails (1)
Lara: Longsword, Leather, Greaves, Gauntlets, Torch, Lockpicks, Boots, Lockpicks
I was gonna have Lara keep the cigs for rp, but Kamau would absolutely smack it out of her hand if she tried to smoke indoors and near kids, so this is an rp-justified reason to keep her from smoking
I cannot wait to see what happens.
Yeah, we wasted our cigarettes last dungeon for RP. Let’s use them on something useful this time.
Note that if the pack isn’t finished after the first puff, we don’t need to worry about misfires after Lara has gotten her fix. Until then though, let’s look for something to fight.
Ricki: Say hi to the kids as you go right
Kamau: Ask the kobold by the fire if they need help
Lara: Ask the kobold on the third floor if they need help
We expect our 4th party member to be in here, so let’s try to get them as fast as we can. We know Ricki has to be the one to talk to them in order to recruit them, so she’s on the move here.
She also has Dash, so if we need to, we can have her book it back to Kamau/Lara.
Since Ricki has 2Mov now.
would it be possible to order her to move 2 rooms right?
on condition as long as the path isn’t blocked and there are no enemies.
Have her go right, and then go for any accesible off screen place.
Nope. As always, person can move through one new unknown room at a time, even if they could ran thrice as fast. Consider it a cost of having to stop and focus to take a detailed look around.
Do not loot the chest or the wardrobe! No! Not even for that reason! We’re not here to steal.
Well, that’s why we should first ask if they mind 🙂 Maybe it just showed up few minutes ago and they dont mind at all?
With Ricki’s Dash, can we have one person go to the next room and Ricki go to a room after that one this turn? There’s a risk of now knowing what Ricki would run through, but it’d be nice to test if it’s possible.Edit: The rules say you can’t move more after entering an unexplored room.
Can we have Ricki ask those two kids by the entrance to show us around? This will serve to help us explore/ gather information more efficiently AND remove them from the danger zone of the entrance.
The miner at the bottom may be stuck. There’s a gray wall (rock?) to his left, and even higher and wider wall to his right. If we ever get there, we’ve got to take a look if the right gray mass is passable, or needs clearing. This could count as helping someone.
Also, maybe Ricky can tell just by the sight of it?

Let’s do all of that in one turn and additionally have Lara light up the torch (we do not want Kamau to stumble around blind in darkness).
Just a quick note on: Time Limit: On turns 30, 40, and 50
First, on and after turn 30, it will get crowded here rather quickly, as the delta is only 10 rounds.
Second, we have 30 turns to safely do what we can. That’s actually a lot. Compare to previous dungeon. This may mean either that there’s a lot of space to scout, or that the things to be done are time consuming.
Third, there are 3 groups. So yes, the crows will come in as well.
I guess the crows could be first. They seem to me to be the quickest of them.
Fourth, “at least one kobold”. This suggests that there may be several options. However, this low bar of “at least one” makes me really worried.
Do you know how long crow meetings tend to take to decide who takes part in the meeting, what the agenda of the meeting shall be, who presides over the meeting, who writes the protocol, who reports about the current status, how many breaks there shall be and when and how long, … ? I would be astonished by crows making it to the warrens in turn 50. 😉
That reminds me of this CAW! I wonder if LSN knows that xD
https://www.oglaf.com/caw/
..and I wonder if the bird in the chapel was an agent of those here
The “at least one” is also odd since completing a dungeon goal ends the dungeon. I guess we get to choose after each helped kobold whether we are done? No indication that we need to return to the entrance.
Whoo you’re totally right. That’s odd.
My. What if it’s all the other way? What if we have to be careful to not help anyone too soon, or else we won’t see the dungeon and loot!Ricky, careful! If the kids drop the ball, DO NOT PICK IT UP, DO NOT GIVE THEM THE BALL BACK! xDEDIT: Great! Now we know Ricky can give the ball back to kids if they suddenly lose it 🙂
I’ve clarified the dungeon goal.
The hinted party member seemed to have some kind of goggles or other lenses, so that will probably distinguish them from the rest of the inhabitants.
I don’t notice any traps, which is a little worrying.
On a general strategic note: I would be fine with trying to finish up before the gangs arrive turn 30. As long as we find that hinted friend, I’d rather move on than try to maximize what we get from here, especially since a gang war near the entrance puts our secondary goal (the cute kobolds!) at risk.
I don’t think it would make sense to place deadly traps where kids play.
Where else would the kids put their deadly traps?
I think I disagree with you here. This dungeon only has a soft time limit, so it might make sense to loot as much as we can. After all Kamau now has 11 Def, which allows him to tsnk a lot of damage, and we need to get as rich as possible before leaving the Goblintown, since we are going on a really dangerous trip to the Manor.
I think there are three possible ways we can handle these 3 groups that are going to enter the dungeon.
1) We meet them at the entrance and kick their asses. Yhis might or might not be possible depending on how strong our enemies are and what stuff we will find in the dungeon. In any case, this option is extremely dangerous.
2) We use something we find in this dungeon (for example door and a switch) to setup a trap for our enemies and lure them with a pair of coins. This plan is a modification of plan 1 and will only be possible if we find any trap-like structures here.
3) We hide/barricade all the kobolds and ourselves, wait for enemies to come and finish the survivors.
This option might be viable if we find any way to block or conceal passages.
