Intermission 9 Page 5

“It’s okay, let him talk.”
“Who are you, and how do you know me?”
“My name is Amadeusz. I’ve actually sent word to you on a couple of prior occasions.”
“You may know me as “A Friend”?”
“Wait… YOU’RE the one who sent that letter?!”
“YOU let us know about the manor!”
“Yes, exactly.”
“That explains how she knows YOU, but not how YOU know HER.”
“You’re a sharp one. As expected of a former Champion.”
“As you’ve likely guessed, Ricki, I’ve been observing you for some time now.”
“Not just you, but many individuals who were victims of the Empire’s eradication and relocation policies.”
“Even early on I felt that you had the potential to do great things, and from what you’ve been doing with that property of mine since you liberated it, I’m pleased to see that I was right.”
“You OWN that estate?”
“Indeed. I acquired it long ago with the intention of using it as… a sort of test.”
“It took a long time and the unfortunate loss of many of my worg companions in order to ensure that the dungeon’s interior would meet my needs.”
“You see, the path ahead of you will be fraught with danger. I needed to know you were capable of surviving it before I fully committed myself to support you.”
“Some of us almost died in that “test”.”
“Almost. But you didn’t! And that’s exactly what I wanted to see.”
“And now that I HAVE seen it… I am here to join you.”
Suspicious….
This sounds like the Pet Master’s evil rival, sending worgs in to die without being present to command them.
Cool, looks like we didn’t miss the warg from the manor after all.
And this dude sounds pretty capable too.
I like him!
they seem nice
Last character: Amadeusz Friend. Amadeus means “loved by God”, an auspicious trait in this setting.
That explains all the dog skeletons in the Manor.
Hmm, this also explains how the note was left inside when the dungeon seals challengers inside.
“If you think that place was a deathtrap after I was done with it, you should’ve seen what it used to look like.”
Hmmm… having him join would mean we’d see his character sheet…. but man does this feel like bad news…
Ummm…. I don’t know if we have a choice in the matter because I don’t want to find out what he’ll do if he’s refused. Maybe keep him close eye on him. He might be the reason why the empire has’nt found us yet.
I feel that, like with the Manor, our first dungeon with Amadeusz will mark the shift into Act 3. We’ll have the choice to skip the Poisoned Well.
Assuming we need to keep access to the Manor, I don’t know if we’ll have another shift in scenery. I could see the last dungeon being the Emperor’s throne back in the Capital.
Call me crazy, but this Amadeusz could very well be an agent of the Emperor (and the test was to try and find out if that could be the one goblin with dungeon eyes) and/or the Emperor Himself (or at least part of His personality/entity) in disguise.
IMHO it would totally be within LSNs mindset as storyteller to make us think they are an ally, make us share our home, our secrets, our vulnerabilities and whatnot with them only for them to turn out to be the absolute endboss. Or they could be a “shard/aspect” of the Emperor that got somehow separated/split off and that in the end will be the key to the Emperors undoing (because this bit has a conscience and feels like what the remainder of the Emperor is doing is wrong/detrimental to the state of the world/…). Or somesuch whacky plot twist.
Also, regardless of any of the above mentioned suspsicions and whether or not they turn out to be right in the end, Amadeusz still hasn’t told us the WHO portion of Ricki’s question yet satisfactory (just a mere name), nor what their goal/agenda is (and I’m guessing they will keep it that way).
Not impossible, but there are far easier ways for the Emperor to wreck us. I8P46 every guard ranked Elite or above knows that the goal is to kill the goblin with Dungeon Eyes, so even with the policy of mass genocide off the table for some reason, there’s a lot of participants out there for this roundabout way of getting proof. This also means that Amadeusz could have found out about the hunt for Dungeon Eyes while not being a guard at all, he seems to be some kind of noble.
I did theorize that the genocide stopped because a nomadic people with wide survival tolerance make it nearly impossible to avoid some slipping away, which in a prophecy will always include the one you want. Proof of finding Dungeon Eyes is very important.
I8P34 Kamau has physically met the Emperor, hence the need for a disguise or shard since otherwise he’d be recognized. (Even when assuming that the Emperor’s face isn’t on all the coins we’ve found.)
Yeah, hence I said “in disguise” in the first place (very end of my first paragraph). I mean, have you seen the Movie “Sinbad” (by Dreamworks) for example? In it, Eris conjures a body that looks 100% like Sinbads out of thin air and slips into it like giving life to a puppet, but it moves completely naturally like a human would. I can’t imagine many limits to what the most powerful deity in LSNs world would be capable of, but successfully pretending to be someone else sure isn’t among that list IMHO.
And/or to protect what they truly look like (and/or because humanoids laying eyes on a deity in its raw form might not end too well for them), The Emperor may use a “puppet”/disguise to meet folks like Kamau.
Anyways, I’m really looking forward to learn more about Amadeusz (it could also mean that he is favoured by all those power depleted other deities, kind of like their champion they are sending to support Ricki and the others in an attempt to return the favour to The Emperor…), even if it is a lot of fun to speculate about them now, knowing nearly nothing about them. 😀
Thanks for providing some more background info/reminder of where to find it. 🙂
Characters’ page: Shouldn’t the Wand of Fireball have recharged itself by now?
Thank you, the Wand is recharged now. Had to be turned off and on again, right? 😉
Does anyone else find the red dialogue against the grey background super difficult to read? All the letters blur together for me
Yeah, it’s not great. But I have the impression that LSN changed the color to a brighter hue, and I’m not finding it as hard as it was to read when Amadeusz has revealed himself a couple of pages ago.
