Paws leads the group carefully over a crest in the rippling landscape. In a valley below, they can see the Guard blockade against the waves of undead that apparently emerge from this tomb.

“What’s up with this? They know where the problem is, but they’re camping out instead of actually resolving it.”

“Guards turn into zombies if they get bit too, don’t they? Shouldn’t they want this done as much as anybody?”

“It could be a couple of things.”

“The Guard is spread a lot thinner these days than they want people to know. They might not feel they have the numbers to invade a dungeon.”

“I can’t see very well from this far away, but it might also be that those guards are all regulars.”

“If there’s no Elites or Enforcers around to take charge, it’s rare for them to enter a dungeon at all, unless it’s already been declared low threat or they have emergency orders.”

“A zombie infestation isn’t an emergency?”

“It depends on what’s around. Some small villages? One abandoned estate?”

“If the chance of an outbreak is low, it might be months before this gets dealt with properly.”

“Except that we’re gonna handle it right now before anyone notices!”

“Hell yeah.”

“hell yeah”

“Please don’t take this lightly.”

“And don’t teach Botanya to swear.”

“damn”
