Intermission 8 Page 30

“Goblin relocation?”
“It would’ve ended before you were born, probably. Then the travel ban was lifted some time after.”
“I’m kind of surprised Lohk never told you about it.”
“In the very earliest days of the Empire, it was those who tended to live nomadically who were first designated as hostile. Orcs, goblins, apes, and so on.”
“The justification was that since they didn’t have the things humans had, they would eventually try to take those things from us.”
“Goblins never built houses because we have insulated skin. We don’t get hot or cold as easily as humans.”
“Lohk still doesn’t like sleeping indoors.”
“I’m sure they all had their reasons for living how they did. It didn’t matter.”
“But those battles had mostly ended by the time I came along, and all those people had either been “brought into the Empire” or killed.”
“Goblins, apparently, were an exception. They had a knack for hiding themselves, and still had a number of small camps in remote areas.”
“But the Emperor himself divined their locations, and the task force was sent to bring them back to the Capital.”
“By that time the narrative had changed, and we were doing it for their own good.”
“When the Guard would show up in force, most goblins would surrender and allow themselves to be transported.”
“They were forced to remain in the city in an attempt to make them conform to human civilization.”
“That’s where Goblintown came from.”
“But some of the goblins we found rejected our “offer” and fought back.”
“They fought back very, very hard.”
Hrm… “the Emperor >divined< their locations”. Meaning that even the manor will not be safe, if the Emperor -wants- to find Ricki, unless it has some kind of anti-scry-protection on it. (Oooh, perhaps that might be one of the upgrades that would be enabled by getting the library first?)
I think building the sentry post -soon- might be prudent. (Which is also a good idea for another reason, namley because incidentally our party just robbed/helped some badits rob some merchants…)
EDIT: small error
You don’t get anti-scry protection from a God. I am sure the goblin shamans, including Lohk herself, tried that trick.
You might if you get God-based anti-scry protection. I feel like the Arachnomancer hideouts would have more thoroughly eliminated otherwise.
That’s true, but… Do the Goblins have a god? I don’t think it was ever discussed.
The best anti-scry protection from God is them not wanting to scry you.
It’s also the only form of protection.
Forcibly bring savages to your city and intentionally create slums right in your Capital? Sounds like a great plan.
Probably the capitalist class wanted easily exploitable immigrant labor that they didn’t have to pay minimum wage to and that could be fired when they got injured. The Romans did it and look how well it worked for them.
I’ll just type here the stuff we know about Kamau’s past:
Ko-Fi page: Kamau lost his arm in a duel against an armored figure wearing a helmet with 5 holes, either the helmet has wings or the fighter had long pointed ears; Kamau’s blade when whole had an almost rectangled shape with a hook at the top;
D1T31: It would take a lot of chains and shackles to restrain and drag an unconscious (or simply unable to walk) Kamau to his execution;
D1T38: Kamau apparently has or had a daughter;
I1P4: Kamau was Imperial Office 792;
D2T16: Kamau felt an urge to strike Ricki down when he learned about her Dungeon Eyes ability; he resisted the urge;
I2P8: Patches apparently knows Kamau and some of his story;
D3T38: The image or idea of dead goblins is a trigger for his PTSD;
D7T51: A suggestion that Kamau got one of his face scars in a situation that involved goblins getting hurt.
There is some subjetive interpretation to the mentioned pages. I felt like searching the info about Kamau because this page (I8P30) begins to somewhat show the Emperor’s interest in the goblins and I remembered how shocked Kamau was when he learned about Dungeon Eyes, which led me to speculate that the Emperor is searching for Ricki for a long time.
Please, feel free to add stuff I forgot to mention or to disagree with what I said here.
Did we get confirmation that the little kid was his daughter?
D5T28, a hug from the little Kobold girl made Kamau happy and very, very sad.
Agreed that the Emperor was probably looking for Dungeon Eyes.
