Intermission 12 Page 15

“Well, I think no matter what, one of us two ought to—”
“Hi Paws!”
“Sorry I’m late, guys. I already figured out who should go to the next dungeon, though!”
“Oh?”
“Yeah! Amadeusz said the team that we sent to the well worked well together, so we should stick with what works for now.”
“Ricki, Lara, Cordy, and myself should be able to overcome anything we find at the research facility.”
“Oh.”
“Hey, Amadeusz. Didn’t know you were around.”
“Greetings, Paws. Forgive me for sneaking up on you, but I felt so bad about missing you last time I didn’t want to risk you leaving before we could catch up a bit.”
“…”
“But of course, business comes first.”
“…Right.”
“So, I’ve got a few new things in stock. Let me know if you see anything you like.”
You can now buy and sell items, order renovations, and assign pets.
New items for sale: Atlatl, Greater Crit Gauntlets/Greaves, Harpoon, Potions of Elemental Resistance, Scorpion Venom Gland
New renovation available: Well
Hm. Do we know if the well applies to pet/character labor, discord friends?
If so that’s +3 labor (roughly) for 9 gold… actually might be worth it.
LSN confirmed it works with pets on discord ^_^
Freah water is always worth it 🙂
As a bonus, you can toss a coin and maybe get a wish /s
Why not toss a coin to a Witcher?
Because the Netflix TV show is as ridiculously bad as the original books are ridiculously good, obviously.
The books are pretty generic, actually. Not that I disagree about the show. The first season did amazingly well but without keeping their star they were never going to match it.
“Amazingly well”.
Guy talking to his horse because we don’t know how to write a script with dialogues.
Bad guys standing and waiting for the guy to come and beat them one after the other because we don’t know how to stage fight scenes.
Butchered dialogues because we don’t know how to take the book and find the dialogues that are already there.
Mmhm.
Spider out.
Honestly? Tossing a coin frequently feels more likely to turn it into a dungeon. Which… could also be a plus.
There are a bunch of Daggers listed in Paws’ Packs that aren’t described in the Items list (Parrying, Spring, Razor, Venom).
Because no one ever bothered to get them.
Do we seriously need to actually buy one of each type of dagger to see what each one does?
Not really, we can find them in the dungeons, too.
It’s an annoying rule.
You know those people who sell their handcrafted stuff online and there’s no price and someone asks “Well, how much is it?” and they’re like “DMed you”?
Paws is like that, only he tells you the price but not what the things do.
Ah, I see… and I suppose neither Kamu the ex-Imperial Champion nor Amadeusz the bard have ever seen or used a Parrying Dagger before. (Sigh)
I’m feeling a need to get that new well dug before the next time we see Paws…
Probably not? Both are swordfighters. Oh, they might’ve seen many a fancy dagger in their time, but had no idea what this dagger is called, nor how is it better than any other piece of metal.
Yet as soon as they feel one in their hand they instinctively know how to use it effectively. Yes, I see how this works. I’m slowly getting used to the “dungeon logic” that permeates this world, though the learning curve is rather steep. It was much easier when I just read the comic and ignored the Comments section and did not even try to participate.
That’s not a knife,THIS is a knife.
Just for future reference (for people reading the archive), this is what Paws’ Packs looked like when this page was active:
The merchant Paws will appear at certain times during intermissions or when summoned inside a dungeon with the Rabbit Paw. He buys most items for half their value (quarter value when summoned) and carries a constantly-improving stock of gear that he’s all too happy to sell. Following is a reference list of what he currently carries, and how much he charges for his wares. If the party finds an item inside a dungeon that he likes the look of, he might try to stock that item in the future.

Be sure to get a couple stacks of cheap raw meat to heal Wolf, Daisy and Lupus.
100%! I was hoping we’d have Lohk for backup healing in case we trip on some magic shenanigan so raw meat is even more needed with this team.
Well we have the characters that Ricki decided on, so now we just need to decide on buying 3, 6, 9 or even 12 pieces of raw meat (they stack 3 to a slot). I suggest 9 since they’re cheap and there may be a way to cook them into steaks in an elemental-themed dungeon.
I assume that we’ll bring both Daisy and Lupus since they pair well with Amadeusz and Ricki, benefit from Amadeusz’s Pack Leader ability (+1 Atk) and can be healed by cheap raw meat.
How was it decided to take the previous team over anyone else?I only saw 1 comment suggesting it,& it didn’t have that many votes.
Are you referring to my Comment, “Hey, that’s the same group that went to the Poisoned Well.” on the previous page (page 14)? If so then look at BlackDragun’s Comment above it that I was replying to, “No heals needed, max damagemaxing time! 1.Lara 2.Cordy 3.Wolf”. It was one of the leading vote getters and was sometimes ahead of the other two most popular groups depending on exactly when you looked at it. Exactly which one had the most votes tended to vary hour to hour and sometimes minute to minute as people up-voted and down-voted various Comments.
Yea,I see it now.It has 11 upbotes, but some others did get more in AFTER LSN already drew the page.Damn,& I was hoping to get new Abilities for purple babushka.
To be clear, as best I understand the situation it appears that there was a LOT of up-voting and down-voting that went on almost continuously for two days and ultimately the author of the webcomic decided on which characters to bring to the Research Facility. The author can attribute this to an “average” or looking at the votes at a particular random moment in time but it was the author who ultimately decided on this exact party for the Research Facility, not a clear-cut decision of the players for any particular party composition for this dungeon.
LSN said this group was kinda the “average” of votes over all the other posts. First time we had such a deadlock of votes so I’m ok with this if it means more updates now
Buy 4 oven mitts. Don’t sell anything.
Don’t be silly, we need at least 8 oven mitts! We’ll have to sell something we don’t need like that gold ring.
What we NEED, actually, is several buckets of rotten fish, if we’re going to have a well. But I can’t find them anywhere on Paws’ list 🙁
I might know a rather soggy villager we may be able to buy some from.
Maybe we can improvise with Yorick (the skull crab pet) and some poison items like the various Venom Glands that Paws does stock…
…but are we sure that we want to see THE POISONED WELL, PART II ?
The first one was pretty miserable!
Or…
OR!
We buy things with useful abilities not related to cooking?
Like, say,a bundle of rope so we can gag you.
I suggest just “rolling with” whatever Mr. I Make Bad Decisions suggests and trying to suggest something even worse that still has a grain of attractiveness or points out something silly. Such as:
Sell Swiftblade and buy one of each of the Daggers that we don’t have a description for.
>We buy things with useful abilities not related to cooking?
If you look at what Oven Mitts do on the Items list they could possibly be helpful in an elemental themed dungeon:
Accessory
Def +1 against fire damage.
Weight 1, Cost 4
OH WOW A SINGLE POINT OF DEFENSE =D
Ah, now you see why we need at least 8 of them! Plus Lara has 8 feet. Yeah, I know it says she cannot use footwear as a drider BUT the Oven Mitts are handware and that is a different category… kinda like how Wolf can’t wear armor but he can wear a helmet because that is a different category of item.
So we’ve just decided to give up on bond on every character besides Amadeusz?
Yup, apparently. At least this way we won’t be arguing bitterly and interminably at the beginning of every dungeon about which characters we want to bring for bond and trying to balance that against getting an effective mix of characters for that dungeon. (Sigh)
I don’t think we’ll take Amy every single time for the next 4 Dungeons.I don’t know how it was decided to take him AGAIN.
It’s also annoying that we didn’t hear his backstory, especially cause we heard Lohk’s at only 2 Bond.
Also, does anyone else think we’ll end up coming back to the city? It’s (probably) where the big plot events are going to be,both for individual members & the party as a whole.Any I want to see if the Kobold Warrens or Chapel have changed in any way,or if the Dungeons disappeared.
Amadeusz, Amadeusz, he’s our man, if he can’t do it nobody can!
Amadeusz, Amadeusz, rock me Amadeusz!
Certain people here are terrified that LSN is a bad enough GM that he’ll permakill half our party if we bond them, even if we do everything right.
Only 25% for me, otherwise guilty as charged. There were plenty of others voting for Amadeusz and/or Cordy party mixes on the previous page but I’m the only one who explained my rationale.
If you want to blame someone then blame the one who decided how many characters there would be, how much bond each would require, how many characters could go on each dungeon, etc. and set that all up so it would be impossible to get full bond with everyone even in the best case… and then dropped the ‘bomb’ of a Sketchy character into the middle of it all halfway through the story.
Interestingly, of all the characters that we could get full bond with, the one I am actually most confident won’t be a bad result is actually Amadeusz. That’s because if we go through all the trouble to bond with him and give up on most or everyone else because the author made him Sketchy (and didn’t remove Sketchy when we bought his room) and then after all of that the bond result is something bad like he permanently loses one of his forms and all the development points invested in it then there’s going to be a lot of people who are really pissed off about it, and an author or GM might be able to do a lot of things but they can’t piss off a majority of their audience and still have a popular story or functional campaign.
I’m sorry that you may not get to bond with as many characters as you’d prefer or the particular ones you’d prefer.
What’s done is done and we now have the party mix for the next dungeon. If you really don’t want Amadeusz on any more dungeons I suggest you vote to take actions that intentionally try to kill him off during this dungeon… I’ll mourn his passing and then get on with things.
Give this comment a thumbs up if you want to intentionally try to get Amadeusz killed in this dungeon so that the other characters can get more bonding time with Ricki.
Seeing Ama’s sorry is less cool than seeing 3 other stories, which is what we’re giving up.
If you really want us to fully bond him, you should vote for actions that kill Lara, Cordy and the new character, so we have less options. Because that is clearly the best way to go about this.
Once again, I’m sorry you didn’t get your preferred results in the voting on the last page. All of the primarily bond-oriented lineups did badly in the voting.
Look, I don’t personally care if we ever get a full bond with Amadeusz or not. I’m not expecting any awesome rewards for bonding and I’ll be happy if we get through any bonding dungeon with the character alive, relatively unchanged, and not permanenly traumatized. I thought I made that abundanly clear in my Comments to you on the last page, but apparently I need to reiterate it here. I just want people to stop arguing about what characters to bring and removing the consideration of bond makes it easier to come to some sort of agreement.
If people want to bring Kamu and Macadamia (the characters closest to full bond) to the next dungeon without Amadeusz, then that’s fine with me, just make sure that the third character is the one that gives them the maximum chance of completing the dungeon alive and successfully — which probably means Lara or a fully-stocked Cordy, unless it has been advertised as a reasonably easy mission.
(Sigh)
The worst part about this is that choosing those “bondless” characters keeps delaying other characters story advancement. Postponing specially Kamau and Lohk’s story feels very bad.
By “bondless” characters I am assuming that you are referring to Lara (who is already at maximum Bond) and Cordy (who does not have a Bond statistic on their character sheet). If one of them is brought to a dungeon it “takes up one slot” that could have been used to get a point of Bond with another character.
I don’t know whether you were intending to include Amadeusz since he does have a Bond statistic which is not at maximum yet and he can gain Bond by completing dungeons with Ricki… he just has Sketchy: Prevents accumulation of bond with other characters when taken to a dungeon. Thus once Amadeusz is included in a party lineup, it doesn’t matter if the other 2 characters are “bondless” or not. Plenty of people have commented on this ever since Amadeusz was introduced and we were forced to take him into a dungeon and thus learn about his Sketchy ‘Ability’ by surprise. Amadeusz being around does postpone getting Kamau and Lohk’s stories (and possibly even prevents it).
In theory (and making some assumptions) we should be able to get Kamau and Macadamia’s full bond stories if we want them and still get either Amadeusz’s bond story (if we get one) or the bond stories of several other characters from among the choices of (Lohk, Botanya, Coccyx, and the final new character)… at the possible risk of getting some of those other characters accidentally killed because they tend to be weak and in order to get the maximum number of Bond points per dungeon you’d need to enter with possibly quite weak groups based on who needs more bond (e.g. Lohk, Botanya, Coccyx), or even if none get killed possibly losing out on Bond anyway for needing to abandon a dungeon unfinished (uh, assuming that abandoning results in no Bond, which is just an assumption as far as I know since we haven’t abandoned a dungeon yet).
Of course it is possible that this is all carefully set up and engineered such that it is simply impossible to get both Kamau and Macadamia’s bond stories as well as Amadeusz’s bond story.
In the case of Lohk vs. Amadeusz, it appears to be quite intentionally designed such that you cannot get to full Bond with both of them in the available storyline, so if you have a problem with that you probably need to take it up with the author/game designer.
I’ve been reading Dungeon Eyes since the beginning and I fully agree that postponing Kamau and Lohk’s storylines feels bad. While thinking about why those two characters specifically I realized some things (some of this may have been mentioned before or on Discord but I wasn’t reading the Comments until recently):
From what we know so far, Kamau, Lohk, Amadeusz (and Paws) are major meta-plot relevant characters who have a history with Ricki or a specific interest in Ricki whereas Lara, Macadamia, Botanya, Coccyx, the dead smith, and the future elementalist are characters that have their own histories and probably bond stories but don’t seem to be critically relevant to the Empire meta-plot and Ricki’s destiny.
Lara had a full backstory but it wasn’t really related to Ricki at all. Mac’s story that we got for buying his room didn’t really advance the meta-plot (if anything it raises a bit of question about whether the Emperor is really going to be the villain) and it didn’t shake his faith in the Emperor or make him an enthusiastic party member or even make him happy (whereas Lara’s room made her happy but her bond dungeon didn’t). I think there is very much every reason to wonder whether Mac’s bond dungeon is really going to make him happy or keep him with the party. I could even see Mac’s bond dungeon being him selling out Ricki to the Emperor and then regretting it and helping her escape jail or some such.
The facts that Kamau, Lohk, and Amadeusz all take 6 Bond (while all of the others only take 4 Bond) and that these three are the only characters to have unique custom items that they won’t drop or trade (Kamau’s Hilt, Lohk’s Cane, and Zing and Thrum) are likely blatant hints that these three are the meta-story characters. A more subtle hint is that these three characters are on the top row of pictures in the pictures of characters shown on the wall in Ricki’s room in https://dungeoneyes.com/intermission-11-page-3/ Intermission 11 Page 3. This implies that Amadeusz is probably just as important to Ricki’s storyline as Lohk is. It also seems that the author intentionally set things up so that the readers/audience/players must choose between getting full bond with Lohk or Amadeusz (or neither) since both take 6 Bond and are introduced fairly late in the story and require 6 Bond each and cannot both get Bond from the same dungeon.
The major metastory characters also seem to have better Ability upgrades available, that may be part of why Lara’s available Abilities always seems so mediocre compared to some of the other characters (e.g. Requiem of Resurrection).
I wonder if we’d get to keep any of those special items like Kamau’s hilt or Zing and Thrum if their character died and if they’d do anyone else any good, since they are a bit specific to the character, probably very intentionally. I have a feeling we would get to keep the item as a sort of a memento to remind the audience of the character that had died. That seems to fit the author’s style.
Nice observation and analysis. I hadn’t noticed that detail about the pictures.
We, doomed to die in a dungeon, salute you! And provide you with a helpful, colourless transcript.
KAMAU: “Well, I think no matter what, one of us two ought to—”
RICKI: “Hi Paws!”

You can now buy and sell items, order renovations, and assign pets.
When ARE we going to get the backstory on Paws & Amy?What is itcwith those 2?
I hope we atleast bring some neat items for the rest of the group, since Lohk won’t be able to absorb Wands on the move since she isn’t coming.
I would also like the backstory on your transformation from Minstrel to Minster, please
Oh no, it’s a doppelganger!
Ah, it’s a long and beautiful story, full of passion, mystery, and philosophy!
My old laptop that I bought years ago in Ukraine died, I switched to a new one and mistyped the name.
… the end?
Surely an instant classic that will be remembered through the ages! Where’s Amadeusz so he can help spread this tale of love and sorrow throughout all the lands!
R/raresentence.
Seriously, how do you just leave us hanging with that, after the (not exactly old) shitshow in Ukrajna? How did it die,& how’d you get it at all?
Dyakuyu! May you and your new laptop both live long and prosper.

It’s a long list and I can’t make edits without the spam filter catching it. If you feel strongly that a change needs to be made, you’ll have to post a new version
I made a bunch of comments in a Reply but then I edited it and the Spam filter seems to have it now. Hopefully it will reappear by tomorrow so I don’t have to retype them all.
Shouldn’t Ricki have Lazuli as a pet,for the stat boost? And Cordy can’t make more minions without the Rotfang Hood, and he should bring a Mid or Big shroom. We should also try to Press the Harpoons,to get a better weapon (unless we find a 2nd Poisonous Siegesword) ….
Rotfang hood allows poison to effect poison immune enemies. Hopefully there will not be any in this dungeon base on the theme.
Cordy just needs to do poison dmg, either from his poison touch or a wand to make a minion
More or less the only reason to bring Cordy is to make more Cordies. Does Lara’s shroom later mean that she starts with none, like Ricki? Would also prefer starting Cordy with none.
Also Wand of Venom put in some good work with Cordy this dungeon. I think it’d be more useful than the wand of on him. We may not encounter anything weak to poison, but I doubt we’ll encounter all that much resistance to it either.
We should also get the Rabbit Paw.I want to get 300 coins like from the Guard Outpost,& the current loadout doesn’t provide a lot of room for hauling loot.
Keep in mind lens and lockpicks free up space
I do,I just expect to curbstomp the first 5 enemies & to get loot from them.
Then if we don’t actually immediately NEED the loot we got from those first 5 enemies we will leave it on the ground where it fell and come back for it later after we HAVE used up consumables like lockpicks, lenses and raw meat. If we do IMMEDIATELY need the loot we get from the first 5 enemies we’ll dump the stuff we don’t immediately need like extra lockpicks and raw meat on the ground (or perhaps neatly leave it on a table or in a nearby chest) and come back for it later.
Besides, if we use this strategy to leave an extra stack of three raw meat sitting on the ground somewhere near the entrance and then later come back and make were-Amaduesz eat it off the ground we can both point and laugh at what we are making the most hated character in the group do while making doggie jokes about the bard’s curse as well as be trolled by the author about dropping food on the ground and/or eating things off the ground, who appears to really enjoy doing that — it’s a win-win all around.
I really hate bringing mushrooms on Cordy.
For early game we have Lara and Ricki, our strongest Characters. We don’t need to waste the reason we bring Cordy in an attempt to make him at the top of his game earlier. He will get there.
I guess I’m going to have to agree for metagaming reasons. If a dungeon is so difficult right from the start that we can’t handle it with some of our strongest characters then it is effectively a deathtrap that will need to be abandoned, or will just be a TPK (total party kill) and story/game over if it cannot be abandoned. If the Research Facility does turn out to be that insanely difficult, then all the people who wanted to bring a collection of weaker characters in order to get the maximum possible amount of bond points will see that doing that wouldn’t have worked out well either.
However, there are several people expressing concern about how weak Cordy starts and if enough people want to I am fine with starting him with a medium mushroom or two, since that will give us more big mushrooms if they survive.

We start with Wolf since we really only want to bring out The Bard when we need him to resurrect the new friend we will inevitably let die. That and his high stats and ability to shovel raw meat for infinite hp. Amadeusz has 31 hp to burn through this dungeon. It’s wild.
Wolf will Upgrade Press our two Chain Armours and trade it to Lara ASAP so Lara can have a respectable defense.
Cordy has the Wand of Sting, and will be playing backline until he can get himself to a respectable Def, then he can join the frontline.
Lara & Ricki are starting with no pets so Lara can truck Ricki up walls and across ceilings. It wasn’t so useful in the swimming dungeon, but it could definitely be useful here. They can continue doing this even when Cordy gives them Tiny Shrooms.
Lara is bringing one of our Bombs & Ricki is bringing a torch. If need be they can literally rain death from above. Honestly I just want to watch our girls do a terrorism together.
–
Edit: Swapped Lara & Cordy’s Atk & Def Rings, gave Cordy a single Medium Shroom to help get him rolling.
I hope my reply to Claudious above eventually reappears, but here’s some of it with updates, I think Sick saw some of the same things I did:
I’d suggest no Potion of Ectoplasm and more Raw Meat because we have Ricki’s Grit for healing and we may be able to cook the meat into steaks if we’re lucky (which we can then eat for HP or carry around with us for the next six months), plus there will likely be mushrooms to eat and we usually find a potion of healing or similar somewhere in every dungeon. (If you think Wolf’s HP are crazy because of lots of raw meat then it will get even crazier when he gets Wound Closure)
Remember that Amadeusz can only use the chainmail in his human form and only Wolf (his werewolf form) can eat the raw meat and he can only change once each during a dungeon. I think he should start in Wolf form and stay that way unless he needs to Resurrect someone or there’s a pressing reason for his human form. — Sick’s plan dealt with this.
We could try the Upgrade press on the two Full Helmets (since helmets are the only thing Wolf can wear), or do we have two sets of Bat Hide Armor to try it on (one on Ricki and one at the manor). If we want to Press the chainmail I like the idea of Lara immediately using the Upgraded chain armor if we go that route because we need to keep as much inventory as practical available.
Since we are hopefully going to get a lot of valuable magic loot we want to keep inventory at a minimum. I don’t think we should bring any wands or potions unless they’re necessary for our plans, like perhaps the Wand of Venomous Sting for Cordy. We may want to keep the Rabbit Paw in case we get a lot more loot than we can carry. We’ll probably get one or more potions of Elemental Resistance so having the Potion Bandolier is probably a good idea.
If we want Cordy to start more powerful they could bring two or three medium mushrooms that can grow if they survive, giving him a full set of big ones available if we need a maxed out Cordy in the future.
That’s all for now.
That’s an interesting point on cooking raw meat in the dungeon. There’s probably fire in the elemental dungeon. Either way I think buying the Ecto isn’t a bad call so as to not put all eggs into one basket.
Full Helm can’t be upgrade pressed. Weapons, Shields and Armour only.
The extra Bat Armour in the manor is a mistake. We only have the one that Ricki is wearing.
Paw is mostly good specifically if we think there’s going to be a lot of Treasure-type items since those sell for full price. Like all the heavy Gold gear from the tomb. Golly lessens the need for this.
I’d definitely consider bringing some medium shrooms for Cordy if we had Lohk/Mac over one of our other group mates, but we’ve got a full team of powerhouses. Cordy can start off a little weak.
With this loadout, we have 16 slots that are either empty, or will be empty by the end of the dungeon by using a consumable item. Plus 4 more super slots on Golly. We have a lot of looting space.
Thanks for the explanations, it is really difficult to keep track of how everything works. Your plan looks solid and well thought out.
I suggest bringing the Potion Bandolier for the Potion of Ectoplasm and not treating that slot as a consumable, since the Potion of Ectoplasm will only get used in an emergency and we are most likely to exit the dungeon with it still unused. That will allow us to keep two additional potions we find, or three if we have to use the emergency Ectoplasm.
Do we want to keep the Diving Helmet or should we sell it? We have no hint that it is ever going to be useful again or that we will have enough notice to know to bring it.
If we sell the Diving Helmet (for 15gp) then we can afford to keep the Rabbit Paw around.
The Paw might be very helpful if Golly gets killed and Paws happens to have a pack mule in stock when he shows up.
Also, back in the Poisoned Well, could a character have worn the bucket as a makeshift diving helmet to avert drowning for 1 turn?
No idea. We would have to ask LSN during the next wrap up stream
I just realized something. Can Wolf wear the Monk Robes?
MONK ROBES
Armour
Atk +2 and Def +2 if not wielding a weapon or shield.
Weight 1, Cost 25
Edit: I think the answer is NO because they are type Armour, however we could use the Upgrade Press if we found another set of Monk Robes.
The cooking steak idea is awesome. The only reason we should bring so many. If we brought 6 raw steaks for wolf and had to use all of them, we did something wrong
Thanks. It is really difficult to remember how everything works and I remembered the trick about cooking meat into steaks but not the details of how the Upgrade Press works.
I agree that 6 raw meat is enough if we aren’t bringing Daisy or Lupus, which we won’t be doing in order to make more space for new mushroom pets.
My concern with cordy’s slow burn is that last time in the well, we were sacrificing mushies so often that he took ages to get to full power. In the meantime he was a liability we could not use in melee for like 20 turns
I’ll suggest that if we don’t give Cordy any mushrooms to begin with then we please take our time with the weak enemies in the first few rooms and let Cordy make a decent number of mini mushroom minions as early as we can.
If I remember correctly, a large part of the problem with Cordy’s slow burn during the Poisoned Well was due to the play decisions that were made. Cordy could have remained in the first room with the bucket and sniped Skeletal Swarmfish for minions, or people could have let Cordy make more minions in the second room (the dry room to the the right) that was filled with enemies, but people wanted to defeat enemies and get eyes on the next room(s) as quickly as possible and building Cordy was not a priority.
I wasn’t reading Comments or voting at the time so I’ll take responsibility for my apathy but not for the decisions that were made. I became active when Lara was almost killed and I was appalled by what seemed to me to be a reckless play style that seemed to value getting eyes on the next room over everything, including some of the character’s lives. I’ll take responsibility for my apathy as a watcher at that time, However I do intend to pay attention to the first few rooms of the Research Facility and if we don’t start Cordy with one or two medium mushrooms then I will be voting for any plans that prioritize building Cordy over defeating enemies and getting eyes on the next room(s) as quickly as possible.
Cordy being a slow burn means we run into a bit of a wall if we run into any hard resistance. Having a dead weight character is not fun to play with or watch, and he never got to actually be his badass self in the last dungeon because we ended up eating a lot of his mushrooms after some surprise damage. I’d say aim for a middleground and give him one or two mushrooms.
See my replies to Claudious above. I don’t think the issue in the Research Facility is likely to be hard resistance in the first few rooms so much as being sloppy and rushing to get eyes on the next room(s) without taking the time to build up Cordy. Part of that might have been caused by the brutal time limits in the Poisoned Well.
I’ll make a few comments under this so people can ‘vote’ on whether they want Cordy to start with zero, one, two medium mushrooms.

I am going to start off with my own vote. I am voting to start Cordy with one medium mushroom because many people have expressed concerns and that is a good compromise plus I don’t want to be greedy. Also, if things go really badly in the first rooms someone can eat that mushroom for HP.
Vote here AND make a comment under this if you want Cordy to start with two (2) medium mushrooms.
“Not because of capitalism, but because we can start them with a big shroom or two so he starts powerful and become even more so. We dont need to be greedy and start them with nothing guys” — Kat on https://dungeoneyes.com/intermission-12-page-14/

My only worry that others did not mention yet is Lara’s low def. I get that you plan on giving her +1 chain on turn 2 but thats still only like, 6 def? Maybe I’m paranoid but I’d be more comfortable if Cordy give her the def ring cuz she’s melee only and has no dodge while Cordy can stay back with sting until they have a full family.
Humm, good point. I suppose if we’re lucky there will be some guards with Imperial gear somewhere in the first few rooms and she can pick up a shield.
Lara does still have Venomous Sting herself, so she can hang back and snipe with Cordy.
Lara does have some spells and even if it costs her 5HP to use one that might deal with an early threat, and then she gets +2ATK for the remainder of the dungeon, although that doesn’t improve her defense.
If people are really worried about how difficult the early rooms are going to be, we may want to consider giving Cordy two medium mushrooms to start with and putting the ring of defense on Lara rather than Cordy.
I think the plan (for at least the first few rooms) is to use Wolf (Amadeusz in werewolf form) for frontal assault and tanking because of how easy it is to heal him with raw meat if he does get injured.
Please see my replies to Claudious and Arthurdb above and Vote for how many mushrooms you want Cordy to start with. I hope you don’t mind that I quoted your comment from the previous page.
Also, if Lara really needs extra Def then Cordy has the Wand of Venomous Sting so he could forego shooting an enemy to make a new tiny mushroom and instead shoot Lara with it to trigger her Poison Resistance III: +6 Def against poison, which effectively improves her defense by +4 because according to https://dungeoneyes.com/how-to-play/ “If a character gains extra Def when hit by a certain damage type (such as fire or ice), this extra Def applies even to other types of damage taken that turn.”
And the stats for the Wand are:
WAND OF VENOMOUS STING
Wand
Deals 2 poison damage at range.
Weight 1, Cost 30
[Sorry for all of the Comments, I am busy trying to remember or figure out all of the rules and tricks before the next dungeon begins, since I’d like to be able to make helpful suggestions rather than ignorant or stupid ones.]
Iirc LSN confirmed on discord that, despite it being a net positive for us in that specific example, our characters cannot attack eachother. So its a no go for Cordy stinging Lara, or her even stinging herself.
The lineup with the current edits looks good to me. We’re about as ready as we can be.
My only remaining question is whether we are sure we want Cordy to bring Medium Mushroom #35? I mean Medium Mushroom #7 is the oldest of the Medium Mushrooms and might get offended if we brought the much younger and less mature #35, although #35 is more mature than #41 who keeps leaving spores in the couch. Whatever we do we should avoid taking #39 until their combat skills have improved although #36 shows good promise. Maybe we could run a Battle Royale sparring match between #7, #8, and #9 to determine which one gets to accompany Cordy to this dungeon.
Whichever medium mushroom we bring I’m sure it will start with 5HP due to the excellent quality and abundance of our pet food, even though the fifth heart on its status bar may be orange rather than red.
For people were wondering why we’re not bringing Daisy or lupis (or any other pets) is because without Interpose, they may get targeted and die.
Can they get targeted if they’re not attacking?
No, they cannot. From https://dungeoneyes.com/how-to-play/ (which your question encouraged me to re-read):
In addition to recruiting other characters, each character can have one pet assigned to them. Pets aren’t as strong as characters but can still be beneficial. They can make their own attacks alongside their owners, but they can also be killed by damage, so take care of them. Pets are only vulnerable to enemy attacks if the pet makes an attack of their own, so it’s possible to have a pet abstain from fighting in order to protect it. This doesn’t necessarily protect them from hazards or traps, but some pets are small enough to be carried, and these can be fully protected by doing so.
Most pets are limited in that they cannot carry or use items and they can only follow their owner; they can’t enter a different room on their own. Therefore, although pets have their own HP, Atk, and Def ratings, they usually don’t have a Mov or Enc attribute. If they do, however, that pet is an exception to this rule.
Like characters, some pets can be improved by performing certain actions. This is unique for every pet, so check their pet sheets and pay attention to how they act in the dungeon.
Some characters have the ability to summon a pet. As each character can only have one pet with them at a time, these abilities don’t work if the character already has a pet with them, and the character can’t enter a dungeon with a different pet if their ability already grants them one.
Here’s an interesting question. If a character dies then what happens to their pet? That could be a huge concern if the character with the pack mule dies, especially if everyone else already has a pet.
If there’s no pet space on another character, the pets go outside the dungeon and wait there. Confirmed by LSN.
Can characters trade pets during a dungeon?
I sort of had the assumption that pets couldn’t be exchanged during a dungeon but the How to Play rules on pets doesn’t specifically forbid trading a pet to a character that doesn’t currently have one and when Cordy creates new tiny mushrooms that tiny mushroom can be kept by Cordy or sent to another character that doesn’t currently have a pet (with zero travel time, even if that other character is very far away in a different room).
If we can trade Golly the pack mule to different characters during the dungeon that might be helpful in some situations involving environmental damage and hazards.
Unfortunately we cant trade pets mid-dungeon.
I finally found where it actually says that characters cannot trade pets mid-dungeon (since it isn’t in the How To Play where Pets are described). That rule is buried in the middle of a dungeon at D5T10 https://dungeoneyes.com/dungeon-5-turn-10/
Lara has gained a pet spider! She can choose to keep it or order it to follow any of her fellow party members, even ones currently in other rooms. Once the pet has been assigned it cannot switch to a different owner (though pets can normally be reassigned between dungeons). Its stats can be found on the Characters page.
[Dungeon Eyes has the same difficulties as the 1st edition of a lot of games, with rules and mechanics spread all over the place, particularly in the adventures where they are first encountered or needed]
According to https://dungeoneyes.com/how-to-play/ if pets don’t attack then they cannot be targeted, although anything but Tiny pets are always vulnerable to hazards and traps. I assume they’d also be vulnerable to Area of Effect (AoE) attacks, although those are fairly rare in Dungeon Eyes we may well see some in an elemental-themed dungeon. The biggest danger to pets larger than Tiny size is probably unblockable AoE damage or what we saw from the Imperial Golems in the previous dungeon.
IMPERIAL GOLEM, MINIATURE
HP: 20
Atk: 8, or 7 holy damage at range
Def: 10
Ability: melee attack hits an area, deals 1 unblockable damage if all damage would otherwise be resisted, immune to holy and poison damage, +5 damage from lightning, +5 Def against fire and ice
Drops: Golem Core
A semi-autonomous golem made to augment the forces of the Imperial Guard. The miniature models lack the raw power of the full-size ones, but are able to operate in smaller spaces such as dungeons. However, they have no intelligence to speak of and will mindlessly attack the closest target they identify as a threat or trespasser unless a handler is nearby to give orders.
If we run into any more of those Golems, it may help if we could trade Golly the pack mule to a character that isn’t going to be getting into melee range, if pets can be traded.
