Dungeon 9 Turn 40
————
Ricki returns to her friends as they all gather to open the trio of chests with the door hidden behind them. Botanya opens the top chest, which predictably has a giant insect pop out of it and punch her in the face… but this one is a bit bigger than expected. It doesn’t quite deal damage to her, but it gets close. Ricki takes a swipe at it with her enchanted sword, but deals a lot less damage than she expected. At least Botanya gets a greater healing potion out of it, which she tucks into Golly’s pack.
Kamau and Lara also open a chest each, dumping a magic lens and eight gold coins onto the floor. Seems this was sort of a storage room with useful but not particularly exciting stuff.
Nice, a lens! 😀 The big question: do we use it on the bone-golem, or on the necromancer?
Also, the healing potion will come in handy. Should we use it on Kamau ASAP?
Once we clear the roach and zombies I think we’ll probably lens the necro to plan better but yeah healing Kamau is likely unless we think he can take it.
Personally: I say we use it on the Necromancer to try and avoid potential infection. I’m not too worried about the big skeleton being infectious, but since the Necromancer is the source of the infectious zombies I’m a bit worried that he might have an attack that causes infection as well. If that’s the case then we really can’t afford to go multiple rounds with him. IIRC using a lens also gives us tactical information, which might let us know if he has some sort of special ability involving his big bone boy- like, say, how the merchants from the caravan couldn’t be knocked out without taking out their guards first.
I’m almost positive the big guy has interpose but yeah I agree. The necromancer is more of a wild card so we’ll likely lens him.
Ricki: Slash the Hulkroach.
Kamau: Pop a cig in your mouth, take a drag, and destroy the Hulkroach, hopefully Cleaving.
Lara: Swap to your Corn Spear and if Zombies wander down here, attack the first one to arrive.
Botanya: Play your Pipes, targeting the same Zombie Lara fights.
Shroom 1: Attack the 2nd Zombie if it wanders in, distracting it.
Shroom 2: Attack the 3rd Zombie if it wanders in, distracting it.
Flytrap: Bite the 3rd Zombie if it wanders in, helping distract it.
[Explanations]
Ricki & Kamau will be attacking with 9 and 12 respectively, which surely kills. Kamau will presumably cleave into another zombie for 9 damage, guaranteeing a kill, and another zombie for 6 damage, hopefully killing it with the Shroom helping.
If there’s anyone worried about Kamau taking a ton of infection here, we have several datapoints throughout this dungeon of Cleave Attacks not drawing attention from unintelligent enemies from their initial attackers.
I see no reason for Kamau to use the cigs.
I *think* it’s to ensure 9 damage on the cleave, which we know kills a zombie as opposed to 8 which we’re less sure will.
Having a higher chance at killing all 3 Zombies and saving a turn is a good enough reason for me. As is the opportunity to addict Kamau to cigs. And chance to free up an inventory slot.
Problems:
1. Even with corn spear, Lara has less defense than Botanya. Stalkroach was ‘close’ to harming Botanya, so probably would hurt Lara, remorsing out Kamau. Do we know stalkroaches are unintelligent enough to not attack her?
2. Might this result in one of the shrooms dying, thus exploding (and hitting Botanya, remorsing out Kamau)?
We don’t have any other options really. Kamau can’t interpose 3 zombies.
Let’s Not Get Greedy option: Preparing to take down Necro after a brief inventory shuffle and prep phase.
Ricki: Drop the Venomous scroll. Grab the lens and identify the Necromancer.
Botanya: Give Kamau the Potion of Greater Healing. If you can also do so this turn, pick up the gold on the floor. Otherwise you can do that next turn.
Kamau: Take the Potion of Greater Healing from Botanya. Use it this turn if you can, otherwise hold on to it for next turn.
Lara: Drop the Siege Sword for Botanya to grab next turn.
Explanation: LSN’s dungeon’s consistently have increasing pentalties/complications around turn 40-50. Let’s get out while doing so is still viable, rather than getting greedy.
Next turn Botanya grabs the Scroll to do an enchantment. She can do either the Siege Sword or the Great Axe – both good choices.
I honestly propose the Great Axe (it’s more valuable to have a character who is viable when Kamau is not around than to have +0-2 attack), but this action leaves both options open
