Ricki catches up with her party and together they quietly walk past Pet Master without making eye contact and attack the land eagles. Kamau takes 1 damage from their combined attacks, but he’s buzzed enough not to care. No eagles survive the battle.
Kamau: Go downstairs and interpose for the bandit/guard fight.
Ricki: Go downstairs and attack the left guard. (7)
Cordy: Go downstairs and attack the left guard. (16)
Lara: Go downstairs and attack the right guard. (8-10)
Daisy: Attack the right guard (11-13)
Mushrooms: Attack the right guard (15-17)
Explanation: I don’t think we can bypass this fight, unfortunately. This should finish the guards in one turn.
Will Kamau take any damage? Guards have hammers, that’s 2x +3atk, Kamau has 15def if I count well, so that’s probably totally safe.
But the 2 stirges on the other hand.. maybe we could do some trick with Daisy and/or Mushrooms to skip remorse and not make Kamau’s HP even lower

Plus they’d be a lot safer/easier if we obtained some ranged damage. Like a crossbow to use an exploding bolt with.
We figured out from the last group of guards that they do 3 dmg when paired with merchants. That’s probably 2 base and 1 bonus, but it could be 1 base and 2 bonus as well I suppose. Hammers are 3, like you observed, so the combat is only 12 dmg from visible equipment. Kamau could absorb an additional 3 from something weird, like one of the guards having a bonus to their attack from a ring or something before he took any damage.
So long as the stumps don’t contain anything insane (3 sets of bees?), and we don’t blunder into any traps, Kamau should be safe from taking any damage on the remaining guard fights.
The guards on screen 4 should only do 2 base for the two melee guards, plus 2 for each of the longswords. That’s a total of 8 dmg, plus the two crossbows. We don’t know how strong crossbows are, but the double crossbow we does 3 dmg for one bolt, and 5 dmg for two Bolts. Given Kamau has 15 defense, and the two guards we know do 8, Kamau would only take 1 dmg if regular crossbows did 4 and are somehow better per bolt than our double crossbow. If they do 3 dmg, he takes 0 dmg. I don’t think it’s realistic to imagine they do 5 at all, and 4 also seems unlikely.
The guards might have special bolts though – I still think it’s unlikely that would push the damage above 4 or 5, but if they have exploding aoe bolts we could be in trouble.
We can see the kind of bolt they have equipped. It’s possible they could swap out the bolt, but if that sort of shenanigan from an enemy on the first turn of a fight is possible, we’re in trouble anyway.

Kamau. With the booties he can fetch himself after the fights on screens 5 and 4 are whittled down to manageable levels.
We need to create more mushrooms and let kamau eat them
Mushrooms can only be eaten by their owner. Each person can only own one pet, and Kamau has Molly. So unless Molly does, that won’t work.
Also net positive mushrooms (as opposed to one dying and another being spawned) costs Cordy health.
Kamau cannot eat mushrooms. He’s not their owner.
