Dungeon 7 Turn 1
————
Kamau wastes no time in taking the fight to the cluster of enemies ahead of him. He blocks all attacks while the rest of the party follows along with him. Macadamia dashes to the next room in a panic, but Ricki and Lohk attack the corn knight. Ricki’s axe lands a relatively weak blow, but Lohk’s torch seems extra effective against the plant-based monster. Even Squirrel gets in on the action by nibbling a few kernels. Despite the massive amount of combined damage it takes, the vegetable is still standing. After all, to paraphrase an ancient proverb:
“Corn is … a mighty warrior.”
The corn strikes back at Kamau, seeming to be fairly powerful even without a weapon. The chickens gathered around the area also attack as he runs through, causing him to take 1 damage despite his hefty Def stat.
The crows overhead seem interested in the fight, but they do nothing for now.
In the next area of the dungeon, Macadamia finds the rest of the tree he could see from a distance. He also finds another corn knight, this one wielding what appears to be an entire cornstalk as if it were a spear. The weapon gleams menacingly in the sunlight.
Several of the creatures in this room seem to immediately take notice of Macadamia’s presence.
I can’t believe a Dungeon this ridiculous is making me worry after 1 Turn!
The corn survived at least 11 Damage and has 5 Attack when unarmed and the Chickens all have 1 Attack.
I’m worried as well.
There’s a group of squirrels that just !’ed on Mac, they may jump down on Mac, and there’s 4 of them. And the TomatoPlant also !’ed, I think it may have a ranged tomato-throwing attack. Even if they all are just 1atk, it’s makes it on par with Mac’s DEF, and it’s quite possible that they have some extra aces in their sleeves, like for example tomato-throwing being actually AoE, which could hurt Daisy (she should be safe from squirrels if she doesn’t attack).
Reasonable worst case: squirrels are 1atk and all jump down, and tomato is 2dmg AoE. I don’t think they are tougher than this, and I think acorn knight will stay where it is, it has no “!”. By staying here we risk 1hp on Mac, 1hp on Daisy (assuming she doesn’t fight and only get AoE damage), and we’ll probably kill 1 squirrel.
Mac definitely shouldn’t try to run through acorn+tomato+maybesquirrels. Can’t risk any more dmg coming from acorn thing.
I think Mac should get back to previous room, and we’ll see what happens here (squirrel jumping, tomato throwing, etc) when Kamau can enter this room.
Squirrels won’t jump down, they’ll attack at range from safety.
It appears meat will only briefly return to the menu.
I think we clear some enemies and then smif and enchant next turn.
Kamau:interpose
Squirrel: attack chicken.
Mac, move back left and attack corn knight.
Daisy: attack chicken.
Ricki: attack corn knight
Lhok: attack corn knight with torch
Fire may do unlockable damage to these, let’s hope we find a fire weapon soon
Ricki: Attack the Corn!
Kamau: Interpose!
Maca: Retreat to the first “room” and attack a Chicken!
Lohk: Attack a different Chicken with your cane!
Squirrel: Attack another Chicken!
Daisy: Retreat to the first “room” and attack some other Chicken!
Reason:
Going for 5 Kills! Lohk has 4 armor, so we need to kill the Corn and 4 Chickens to leave the room without anyone taking damage. I’m guessing the Corn is low on life because it just took at least 11 Damage and it’s not a boss. Any failed kill gets us info about how tough enemies are. If Squirrel fails to kill a Chicken then we know they need to take 2 Damage to kill.
Side Note: If we’re lucky, the Chickens won’t summon more when attacked like in The Legend of Zelda. If we’re unlucky, we’re already dead.
Omae wa mo shindeiru
Not.. yet…
So the squirrel and the … tomatostalk (?) noticed Mac. We already know that squirrels use acorns to ranged attack enemies.
I can imagine the tomatostalk also throwing stuff at us (most likely tomatoes) from afar. Which – if correct – makes the fight not (much, if at all) easier than the one in the first room. Of course, that depends on how much attack the tomatostalk has, seeing how there are 4 squirrels AND this corn knight is armed.
That is, IF the squirrels all count as a group and they get all pulled as soon as one is pulled. (We don’t know enough about that mechanic yet. We did assume some enemy groups to be separate in the past which then ended up being connected, iirc.).
On the plus side, I do see 5 tiny green things protruding from the ground, that could be the first produce.
And who knows what the chests contain? (And how on earth to get up to them… Can our chars climb trees? The trunk seems too wide to comfortable circumfence with one’s arms…
If one has 2 arms in the first place, but then again Kamau never had any trouble climbing before.)
With all these ranged enemies (and the spider she could have tamed for yet another corruption) it’s kind of a shame Lara isn’t there. But we’d be pretty screwed without Kamau, too (and that in the first screen!), so party decisions are always something we will be likely to “regret” in some way or form.
Just want to add that TomatoStalk’s tomato-throwing may be AoE attack, as tomatoes splash on impact.
Also, the 5 small plants may be produce, but may also be a glass-like trap. I think Ricky should take a look.
Everyone: To second room.
Kamau: Interpose
Ricki, Lohk, Maca, Daisy, Squirrel: Attack the cornman with the spear.
Keep going. There is nothing of value in the first room, except for the corn that may drop from the cornman, and with just one chicken kill we can hang out there as long as we need*. With interpose + dauntless leaving enemies behind us is unlikely to be a disaster. No, more important right now is that our strength is declining fast. Let’s finish off the rooms where Atk *does* matter first.
Everyone’s on the cornman because the greenery on the ground might be angry root vegetables and we don’t want to aggro those just yet. Splitting off one character for a ranged attack *might* work, but Lohk should be using her torch, and Maca shouldn’t throw away his spear just yet.
*Potential exception if the crows aggro for some reason, but dauntless+interpose will get us out safe anyway. We’ve seen this exit condition before, in the rat vault, and LSN explained that this was a victorious method of exit if we had the necessary items. See the comment in dungeon 4 report. https://dungeoneyes.com/dungeon-4-report/
Did a bit more math and I’m not sure I still endorse this. 13 damage from here + 13 in the next room would trigger dauntless, and mean Kamau would have to die to get Ricki out safely. I find it extremely unlikely that things would occur so (all enemies following us), but even 2% chance of character death is too high for saving time here.
It may be worth one turn in the first room for safety. One.
If we get a team mate killed on turn 2, do we get a special achievement?
I don’t think so.. “2” doesn’t seem special. We’d need to get it on #1 or #0 😛
I definitely vote against using up Dauntless before meeting the bull.
Master Ardon hates this dungeon!
I wonder what is the relationship between magicrows and scarecrows. I also wonder how does the tomato plant act.
Scarecrows. What makes me wonder is that their eyes are X, like they’re dead. Makes sense. Clearly not a monster. But can we use them? Take down the scarecrow and the birds land on the ground to eat seds? Or can we search scarecrows like furniture?
“But they do nothing for now”
I think the crows may soon get very interested when the CornKnight falls and corn seeds scatter around.
… I just hope his head isn’t some kind of a corn-grenade (oO)
Maybe then we see if the scarecrows do anything.
The second and fifth sprouts (left to right) have light yellow bases. Looks like turnips or parsnips, some sort of root vegetable. Those being distinct might make them a trap which will actively ambush, not that the firmly rooted ones are safe.
We can probably climb up to the treehouse, but let’s deal with that later. We will need Kamau plus someone else to boost up to reach the treehouse roof. Lohk can snipe off squirrels when we’re moving around here.
OK, who’s got the sorcerous powers to command the chickens and cows? And where’s the spectral horse?
