Dungeon 6 Turn 9
————
Lohk and Daisy easily take out the last two rats without getting hurt. Five rat tails drop after the fight, and lie on the floor in a pile since nobody can carry them.
While that’s happening, Lara and Macadamia work together to build some stairs out of the various dungeon elements in this locked chamber. Even shorties can now climb out of the pit as easily as walking.
Ricki abandons her fight on the other side of the tunnel for now and unlocks one of the doors, then walks through. She decides to hang on to her thieves’ tools for a little while even after using them since there are so many locks in here.
Ricki finds herself in a small, dusty closet. Kind of a let down after she went to the trouble of unlocking the door, depending on what ends up being in that chest. However, her Dungeon Eyes reveal that more is going on.
This is almost certainly the sealed tomb that the party is trying to get into. She can see some kind of magical effect lining the room, possibly to block non-traditional means of entry or exit. She can also see what appears to be a sarcophagus directly below her. The undead knight’s body must be inside.
Okay – that went better than expected but also didn’t really help us out much. We really really need to clear inventory out. Things we can do to clear inventory
Consolidate or use keys.
Drink the potion or feed it to Daisy.
Feed the wand of Death Touch to Lohk.
Use the lens on the guy with the scarves, or the big bat, or the lady bugs (preferably with the encyclopedia). Eventually it’ll get used up and we’ll have an open slot.
Lockpick chests until one lockpick breaks/is lost.
Drop the purse and Paw with our store of items in the kitchen.
Many of these actions involve trading items. We might as well get the entire group together and trade items, since this will still leave us with the actions of pets and is more efficient than having individual pairs of people trade items over and over again. If we want to give Lohk the wand, and move the keys off of Lara and Ricki and onto someone like Mac, it’s better to do it all at once than in bits and pieces over multiple turns.
So we have the weekend to discuss all this but basically yes.
I’m team feed the wand. Reluctant to use a potion on daisy when that’s better suited for Mac and lara but I know we don’t have access to the meat yet (and that’s another thing we should do.)
We’ll certainly have to spend a round trading some thingd cause we want that helmet
As for lens, I’m team try the scarf guy first – as he might be a pc and if he is then we likely won’t be able to use the lens anyway. Then we do the big bat.
Same here, but also, there’s the fireplace, we can finally try to cook the meat
about the lens – i think better just leave them in room with door, reason is to use in boss battle, its probably going to be hardest battle in dungeon and we need information,
but minus in my plan its boss probably unique enemy and its information don’t help us after this dungeon
Zuvatan appears to have been correct on the last page. We only got one skull darkened.
Well, may as well see what is in the chest there. Odd arrangement with that other chest behind a locked door.
Looking at the tomb, I can’t help but wonder why it’s a whole room and not just an enemy spawn. Will kiting be required to fight it?
On another note, I am also starting to question this dungeon goal. I’m starting to think we may be being tricked into freeing a super powerful creature that was under house arrest.
We don’t really have any options but move forward with the goal but maybe trainer will have some insight. We usually get a mid dungeon change of some kind (pursuing guards, temple had more skellies being summoned etc)
Kinda why I’d like to look behind the picture and more bookshelves to see if there’s another hidden message in there. There may be a way to keep that from happening.
Ricki: Move back one screen, drop your key near the ladder heading upstairs, then go pick the locked chest on the left.
Lara: Drop your key with Ricki’s key, then go kill a hostile wolf spider on the bottom floor.
Macadamia: Feed Daisy your potion.
Lohk: Heal Lara.
Logic here is that chests probably aren’t what the keys are for, and we have enough lockpicks to unlock all visible progress blocking doors. I’d like to use up one Ricki lockpick now so she can grab the other before heading for the door upstairs, assuming Macadamia can’t unlock it with the set of keys we’ve left for him to pick up.
The lack of key in the new room, lootable chest, and additional locked door and lootable chest make me think that the door we picked and the one inside the boss room are meant to be opened with lockpicks.
There could be two more keys in the un-revealed room, or a hidden key somewhere for these. There could even be an additional room with a key between the unrevealed room and the tower.
Part of the logic is that it also keeps Ricki centrally located in the basement. Next turn she can pop up to have the wolf spider try eating meat on its own, then pop back down to keep lockpicking if careful thief procs again.
At least have Lohk and Macadamia trade the wand for the helmet, please, if you are going to use this turn for “resting up” and trading.
Also, in the past we could use potions on the pet spider (because they are on liquid diet see https://dungeoneyes.com/dungeon-5-turn-31/), but we don’t know if it will work with Daisy.
We can’t. Trading is an action.
in the sealed room.
the pedestal is covered in green glowing triangles. Same type of green as the skulls on the door. Skulls we can turn off. sus
How (if) do we turn off the pedestal?
Maybe when the seal breaks, it will break all the magical effects in the tomb.
There is also a green outline around the whole room except the part we opened, it could all be linked to the sealed door. Or there could be a set of levers somewhere, it actually makes me want to move the entrance painting more as that would be a neat place to hide that.
Ricki: Move back one screen, drop your key near the ladder heading upstairs, go through the hole back up to the tower, then use the magic lens with the encyclopedia on the giant bat monster.
Macadamia: Feed Lara your potion, then move up to the kitchen and drop the wand next to the tables with the food on them.
Lara: Drop your key with Ricki’s key, then go kill a hostile wolf spider on the bottom floor.
Lohk: Drop the helmet next to the keys, then pick up the keys and move up to the kitchen, over to the entrance, then up to the library.
My logic is to prioritize information.
This will put Lohk in the Library to try the keys on the door to (hopefully) the last section of the dungeon and then move in.
We will also (hopefully) find out if there is anything special about the giant bat monster.
I would rather Mac get the helm to bring everyone’s defense up to 6 so everyone can take no damage from two October skeleton hits or double owlbear hits. Also, we cab save the fire to drop the boss faster or use it for emergency heals.
Daisy can eat meat, I think that is a better use, in two turns Lohk’s movement would put her in the kitchen, she can drop keys to pick up the wand while Daisy eats the meat at the end of the tables.I would rather test the meat in the middle of the table first with the wolf spider, but actions may be tight, there is always the possibility that something may occur at the end of October that will force us to speed up.
Lara is slow, so kill the things in the area before moving on.
We haven’t been able to feed potions to anything but pets in the past, which is why I had it going to Daisy. Macadamia’s action will probably fail, but maybe that will settle the debate over this moving forward. You might also consider having the wolf spider attack a squirrel. It shouldn’t die as long as they only do 1 damage even in melee, and the specter doesn’t target the wolf spider.
Has feeding the potion to a party member been tested? If not, even if it fails it is good to know when we are not desperate for healing.
I would assume that the squirrels only do one damage in melee but I am paranoid. iirc, ranged attacks do not add the base attack of the creature, so it is possible they do two damage. Also, squirrels in LSN’s other combat seemed to be a bit scarier then they should be, it could carry over to this comic.
It was tried twice in the warrens and had no effect both times.
Sorry, other point is that you may have a hard time doing the pickup of keys this turn. LSN said he’d treat someone picking up an item dropped that turn as a trade. Better to have Lohk attack a squirrel this turn (or heal Lara). She can grab the keys next turn with no issue.
Macadamia: feed potion to Lara, trade wand of death touch (give) for helmet (receive) with Lohk, go through the rat tunnel. If possible attack/kill a squirrel. If possible scatter dog bones
Lohk: trade helmet (give) for wand of death touch (receive) with Macadamia. go through the rat tunnels. (if possible) “eat” wand of death touch with Master Wand. If possible frost ray a squirrel (same target at Macadamia). If possible scatter dog bones
Daisy: kill/attack the other squirrel (same target as wolf spider, other target than Macadamia/Lohk, if Macadamia/Lohk can attack).
Lara: drop the key. Go up one room, drop purse and paw next to the beer closet. crawl under the tables through the kitchen. If possible (since I dunno if her dropping the key and Ricki picking it up counts as action, because technically they traded items), try to shoot your Venomous Sting through the lock of the locked door to hurt a ladybug creature.
Ricki: go right, pick up the key Lara dropped, go through the rat tunnel and use the lens (with the book) on the guy with the scarf. If that doesn’t work, use the lens (with the book) on the giant bat. If that doesn’t work, either, scatter the dog skeleton.
Wolf Spider: team up with Daisy to kill a squirrel, If Daisy doesn’t need help, scatter the dog skeleton.
Okay, next turn we’ll see a the return of the specter. We should probably try to heal up our chars just in case that the specter’s attack locks out all “empty” hearts, instead of just the one that its attack takes away. Also, since grouping up did exactly zilch to help us with the ghost appearing last time, I see no reason not to split up the group.
I’m also stashing the keys on Ricki, since she can move 2 and Lara can only move 1. Lohk might be even better, but on the other hand Ricki has the “universal key” (aka lock picks), so it might be more effective to have keys on her, try to use keys, and if that doesn’t work, then use the lockpicks instead.
I’m still getting used to this whole “trading items isn’t free anymore”, and therefore I’m also trying to find out if scattering the dog bones counts as action, attack or neither. (hence I mention it in so many characters’ actions). I’m also trying to find out if wand master is an action. Sorry if this makes it a tedious read.
Most of your combat actions won’t happen since there are no actions for them left after trading/lensing. Only Daisy & the wolf spider would attack (maybe only the wolfspider, it’s afaik unclear if Daisy can attack without Ricki being the same combat). Since we don’t know the squirrels stats they may survive & if they have a different melee attack even kill our pets.
Macadamia: feed potion to Lara, trade wand of death touch (give) for helmet (receive) with Lohk, go through the rat tunnel. If possible attack/kill a squirrel.
Lohk: trade helmet (give) for wand of death touch (receive) with Macadamia. go through the rat tunnels. if possible (dunno, if that is an action) “eat” wand of death touch with Master Wand. If possible frost ray a squirrel (same target at Macadamia).
Daisy: look pretty and be the goodest girl
Lara: drop the key. Go up one room, drop purse and paw next to the beer closet. crawl under the tables through the kitchen. If possible (since I dunno if her dropping the key and Ricki picking it up counts as action, because technically they traded items), try to shoot your Venomous Sting through the lock of the locked door to hurt a ladybug creature.
Ricki: go right, pick up the key Lara dropped, go through the rat tunnel and use the lens (with the book) on the guy with the scarf. If that doesn’t work, use the lens (with the book) on the giant bat.
Wolf Spider: scatter the dog skeleton.
Same post as above, but without the pet attacks. Thanks for pointing this out, ShailynSlay.
You can’t trade items and also take an action, and trading items takes the actions of both parties. Feeding a pet takes an action on the character feeding.
VERY random idea re tomb: the green triangles are again, green, like the skulls and room’s outline. So, they are related. But the triangles make me wonder. What if they are indicators as well? When we get here inside, we have the door opened, most if not all other enemies will be dead at that point. So indicators for what? Maybe for the things we will have to do, to finish the “destroy the body” thing. The Pokemon-Vampire made me wonder about “wooden stake” we could buy in the shop. What if the body here in the tomb will be animated, and will be RE animated several times, and that’s what some indicators could be here too.. Too many indicators for one dungeon, but, well, at least it would be a consistent theme.
Reposting cntc’s post cause spam filter ate it.
Copy/Pasting what I had written in case anyone want to say anything before I can repost.
**Ricki:** Go back upstairs and repair the Oxidicer with the Rusty Chainmail.
**Wolf Spider:** Eat Rat Corpses from the remains of the Rat King. (In other words, do nothing. :P)
**Maca:** Feed Daisy your Healing Potion and pick up the Thieves’ Tools.
**Lara:** Go upstairs and Investigate the flies and Stove.
**Lohk:** Go through the tunnel and attack a Squirrel.
**Daisy:** Drink Maca’s Potion and attack the other Squirrel if you can.
Explanation:
We’ve got two rooms no one can do anything important inbetween everyone and the rest of the Dungeon.
All Lara can do down here is attack the Wolf Spiders, but we’re coming back later for the boss door later either way, so why do we have to attack them now? They’re not strong enough to hurt anyone and not having anything to kill when we come back doesn’t give Lara anything to do the turn she comes back. (In other words, spare them so we can kill them later.) As I’ve said before, with her low Mobility, I want to her to go to the next place she’s useful ASAP and the rest of the Dungeon is upstairs. Everyone else can catch up. Investigating the Flies and Stove is for the sake of giving her something to do and gives us info.
It takes Lara 3 Turns to reach the room above the Entrance and everyone else 2 Turns from anywhere in the Basement, but having Ricki and Maca in the middle room or upstairs lets everyone meet up in the Entrance so we can shuffle items around on Turn 11 while we have nothing else to do. With Lohk’s 3 Mobility, she can try to kill some Squirrels and still get back to the Entrance on Turn 11. I’m guessing the Squirrels are weak because they’re dealing 1 Damage. If they’re stronger than they look, we get info about them.
This probably won’t work because picking up the chain mail is an action, and the broken oxidicer requires using an item in inventory to repair that item. Maca also can’t feed a potion and pick up a thieves tool. People can’t do two actions in a turn.
For Ricki it was either try to repair the Oxidier or open a chest. If it works, we repair the Oxidicer. If it doesn’t, we find out that we can’t do that. I’m guessing it works for the same reason I’m guessing drinking a Cheap Ale off of the floor would work with a full Inventory.Just reread the Broken Oxidicer’s description. It won’t work. Ricki should open the chest in the closet to see what’s inside instead.I thought Maca might be able to pick up the Thieves’ Tools because he’s already doing inventory stuff, but the important thing is feeding Daisy the Healing Potion. Picking up the Thieves’ Tools was a slapped on in case it was possible.
Another thought I had, (which would have lead to the post getting deleted by the spam filter if it wasn’t already being eaten for editing too much too quickly) was having Lohk cast Heal on Lara instead of attacking a Squirrel.
Ricki’s inventory is full. Unless the item is useless, opening the chest will just mean someone else has to pick the item up next turn. Better to clear a slot and then, at worst, we drop the item.
Opening the chest is honestly just because there’s nothing else Ricki can do unless we want to try picking a locked chest. As tempting as that sounds, I’d rather not because having to pick up the other Thieve’s Tools if we use up the one Ricki is holding may make her too busy for item trading on Turn 11.
At the very least, opening the chest lets us know if it’s worth going back to pick up or not.
Ricki doesn’t need to trade any items if she can drop the keys.
It seems we were wrong all the time about the encyclopedia. It’s text says:
There’s no ‘AND’ there in the underlined part, and it’s a “tome of dubious knowledge”. So since its main content is dubious knowledge, useless knowledge, then maybe it actually has 20% chance to fail provide no information, and 80% to succeed provide no information 😀
Alright, I’m joking of course 🙂 There is no ‘TO’ there as well, so it’s not “fail to provide” either 🙂 Probably a typo, and probably it’s the ‘AND’ verion, but anyways got me surprised for a moment 🙂
Throwing another option out cause why not?
Lohk: Heal Lara
Lara: Move on up a room and investigate the stove and flies. See if there’s a way to smoke out the flies from the table.
Mac: Feed Daisy the potion like the good girl she is. If you can pick up Ricki’s keys afterward do so.
Ricki: Head out and drop the keys by Mac. Then head down and pick that chest on the left.
Wolf Spider: take a look at the room above and wonder if you can eat flies off the ceiling like the spider you are.
Daisy: Good girl
No real thoughts. I really want to figure out how to get those flies ccleared soon cause that’s a lot of healing literally on that table. If we can’t do dropping things and actions we’ll figure it out later. Mostly think we should get some options set up for trading next round and having Lohk eat the wand to get space together. We can likely combine keys into one ring next turn as well. Lara can move down a level or the rest move up a level to do the big ol inventory switch crap next turn while we say hi to ghosty.
Minor Suggestion/Clarification: Say that Mac should go up too instead of not saying if he follows Lara and Daisy up or not.
Also, we have no idea what chest is best so we might as well be picking one at random, but I vote the bottom right chest if we pick one. I’m guessing it’s best because it’s guarded by the Wolf Spiders. 😛Rules Note: LSN said that someone dropping something and someone else picking it up would count as item trading, which would need Maca’s and Ricki’s turns.
We want Mac to have both sets of keys if possible. Maybe have Lara drop hers too? If we put them in the kitchen they’d be together and only cost one Mac action.
Macadamia: Feed your potion to Daisy. Go upstairs, drop your wand with the pile of loot, then go back downstairs to wait to pick up the keys.
Ricki: Wait for the spectre attack – see if you can see anything happening with the tomb when the attack happens. Afterwards, move over one, drop your keys by the ladder, then move into the rat hole and use your lens with the encyclopedia on the guy with the scarf.
Wolf Spider: Tear apart the inactive dog skeleton (assuming it remains inactive)
Lohk: Drop your helmet with the keys by the ladder. Enter the rat hole and attack a squirrel in melee.
Lara: Drop your keys by the ladder, then kill a hostile wolf spider.
I’m assuming we have no appetite for tackling the longsword skeleton now, which is fine, so I’m prioritizing combining the keys on Macadamia and getting him to 6 defense with the helmet.
Using the potion gets Daisy back to full health, and attacking the squirrels in melee with Lohk gives us an upper bound on their damage for future reference.
I’m assuming still that the scarf guy might be friendly, and if so trying to use the lens on him will tell us that (we can’t lens friends presumably).
Plan for the following turn:
Lara kill next wolf spider. Lohk kill next squirrel. Macadamia pick up keys and move to entrance. Ricki lens bat, or if lens was consumed, pick the lock in the kitchen.
Another plan (detailed reasons below):
Focus is to start working towards the beetle room near the kitchen (which we’ll probably need to pick without going through the skeletons) and move wand & keys to lohk (imo bethere in long term than Mac). I’d rather make progress on larger enemies than work on the squirrels & their chests.
Ricki: point out all traps to the group. move to the kichten and drop your keys next to the wardrobe. then move back down and open the locked chest on the left, preferrably pick up light items (1enc slot).
Lara: move to the kichten and drop your keys next to the wardrobe. Go up the stairs and see of you can use the stove pipe to smoke out the flies (use the pick to make a new hole if necessary).
Lohk: trade the wand of death touch from Mac against your helmet, move up to the kitchen.
Daisy: If the annoying flies are gone grab a slice of meat from the table – have a treat!
Mac: trade the helmet from lohk against your wand of death touch, move to the kitchen
I want to start working towards two of the non-skeleton doors. I don’t think we have (or can get without skeletons) the key for the kitchen bedroom, so I suggest we pick it and just there asap (ideally getting that fight done in turns 11-14).
The helmet & wand need to be switched anyway, as do the keys, but Ricki & Lara don’t really need to get anything right now so their actions can be used otherwise.
I want the keys on lohk (after she unlocks/eats/… the wand), since she’s faster than Mac & with Daisy may reach higher than him (Ricki and Lara are to busy/slow for keys).
I also think the master bedroom door is most likely the one leading right from the library (the remaining room there has space for a master bedroom and I think access to the tower probably goes by the large skeleton group).
Using Mac’s potion (on whomever) is IMO a low priority thing, and doesn’t need to be done now.
The potion is taking up inventory space. There are resources in chests we cannot access until we have inventory space, and using the potion this turn saves us from having to drop it and pick it up on someone else. Using Macadamia’s action this turn to switch is a waste, because we can simply use his action next turn to pick up the dropped keys and dropped helmet. Lohk can just pick up the dropped wand at her leisure, since eating it isn’t critical right now.
This plan keeps us from consolidating the keys on Lohk until turn 12, which means we won’t be able to try unlocking the most important remaining locked door (the one in the library that leads to an unexplored screen) until turn 13 at the earliest. If the keys don’t work we won’t be able to try lockpicking it until turn 14. We need to finish getting info on the layout of the mansion ASAP, so I think that takes priority over giving Lohk, rather than Mac, the keys. This plan also uses an action on Lohk and Macadamia but doesn’t actually free up any inventory space between the two of them.
