Dungeon 5 Turn 14
————
Ricki runs back to the Blues hideout to retrieve some items, then returns to her friends. They once again shift around their equipment and drop three sets of thieves’ tools on the ground, then attack the Reds as a team. Kamau runs into the middle of combat with a bucket on his head in order to draw their fire. He believes his high Def should protect him, but suddenly he feels his power being drained for some reason, and he ends up taking 1 damage.
Ricki and Lara work together to take out one of the thugs who has taken a torch off the walls, sending him sprawling to the floor. The spider attacks one of the other thugs, but doesn’t quite manage to take him down despite landing a powerful poisonous bite.
One of the thugs’ rusty daggers disintegrates after attacking.
It looks like we are not the only ones who can get screwed by rusty equipment. I think this detail is worth adding to the “rulebook” here.

Which might be bad if we need ALL rusty items to be fed to the rust monster.
Maybe we just need to feed it enough, maybe we just need to actually destroy every single piece of rust items and the monster is there to speed/spice things up (in this last case, yay! one down).
I bet it’s just a matter of breaking them all, but feeding them to the monster is still a good idea for accessing the chests and giving us the ability to destroy items without fighting. As someone said earlier this parallels the other puzzle chests – glass chest was getting rid of all broken glass, church chest was getting rid of all solar guardians, rat chest getting rid of all red rats. Rusty item chest could reasonably be get rid of all rusty items.
It is also possible that we just need to defeat the rust monster.
Added. BTW, anyone can request editor rights 🙂
I wonder if it is related to that strange action performed by the ninja.
100 percent. Yes.
Gosh, it’s almost like Kamau is a well-known traitor and the underworld is familiar with him. Who’s to say the wanted poster was already there and the ninja is using it to Send to do some impromptu bounty hunting for the big price on Kamau’s head? Not their usual line of work but you do whatever you have to to get ahead.
Sure would be weird that none of the red thugs outside the dungeon recognized him then!
Kamau: unequip the bucket, interpose.
Ricki: attack the thug previously attacked by the Spider.
Lara and Spider: attack the thug with torch.
[Edit: changed the plan according to Tem’s comment about torch.]
[Edit 2: changed targets a bit.]
Unequipping the bucket lowers Kamau’s defense by one point. What does he gain for it?
There is no torch on the wall (except next to the ninja): the thug took it.
Unequipping the bucket guarantees that the bucket won’t break. We are able to do it now that we took down one of the thugs.
But if the trio below comes up we’ll need it. I’d rather let the bucket break.
This is a good point, but it’s only a 10% risk and I’d rather take that risk when we aren’t sure what the below thugs are doing.
Hear me out:
What if the hidden entrance to lower levels is at the start of Dungeon?
Check Dungeon turn 0
Wardrobe is Directly above sus big stone and that’s how hidden paths always worked in DungeonEyes.
what if it’s a hidden entrance?
What if all we need to do it access lower floors is to open that wardrobe?
or do any quests for Kobolds and they will tell us?
what if the Main “Goal” is a hint and after doing it and gathering by entrance (and the wardrobe) they will ask us to help them with actuall problem they have bellow and we start second stage of this dungeon?
That is not a bad idea, but right now we need the ring for macadamia which is the thugs hideout. We might need to wait and see what happens after that
Yes, it has been mentioned before in the comments here or in the discord.
One more reason to help the kobolds, since no one wants to barge into their home and mess around with their stuff.
Well, I want, but I decided to sit quiet about that xD
(technically, we have a quest to help the kobolds, and keep them alive, and there’s no rule against making them angry. If they attack us, we certainly do know how to not kill people and just flip their light switch)
(so yeah, techniiicallyy, we could probably just attack every single living thing here, and KO the kobolds, kids including, just like the drunks under the tavern, and have the second goal secured (*).. but.. well..)
( (*) unless their heads pop easily like eggshells and we don’t know it and kill the first poor guy we try to incapacitate, so yeah, maybe let’s keep it a last resort option)
Continue the fight! I’m prioritizing the torch Human because he might have more health and therefore could use the minimum 9 damage from spider/Lara, torches are the least likely to break of the weapons currently arrayed against us, and getting rid of all torches in this room would blind at least the humans.
Kamau: intercede!
Ricki: Attack the halfling previously targeted by the spider.
Lara: Attack the torch using human with your spider!
Spider:Attack the torch using human with Lara!
I think we should focus on the dagger thugs first, to reduce the chance of their daggers breaking.
I’m leaning towards the breaking of the rusty items (naturally or by being fed to the rust monster) being the trigger for the chest. Even if it’s the feeding bit, we still have a greatsword, plate armor, and a dagger, with the potential at this moment for up to 4 more daggers. I’d rather prioritize keeping Kamau healthy first and then worry about preserving rusty equipment afterwards. The daggers breaking is actually a net benefit for Kamau’s health should we have to take on the remaining goons along with the ones below.
Since our enemies now deal less damage, it might be better to unequip the bucket, so that it won’t break.
I think not yet, we don’t know how ninja’s curse works. It may have a cumulative growing effect, like -1def/turn over 3 turns, etc. Kamau’s not attacking, and it’s 10% chance, I’d wait a turn or two with this.
I sure wish we had a plan that involved roleplaying, heck anything other than murderhobo our way through encounters.
If you took the time you spend complaining about other comments to suggest an action, you might actually get to see that roleplaying you want. Top level comments and their up/downvotes are what LSN primarily looks at to determine actions, so if you have another idea PLEASE post it as a top level comment so we can vote on it.
Hey, I’m not sure that the Character page is up to date, but if it is, whatever ninja guy did reduced Kamau’s defense by 3/4.(It seems the page is up to date, as all the equipment is placed correctly, except that Kamau still has all his hit points).Edit: Sorry. All good now.
Ricki has too low attack values, Lara has too high defense values, … page update is not finished yet.
The equipment is also off a bit because there are two boots. I’m sure it will be fixed. In the meantime, we know the defense only went down by 1, because Kamau was facing 12 damage this turn. (Source is we know the weapon damage – two torches and 4 daggers is 6 damage, if each enemy had 1 base attack that would be a total of 12 damage) – Kamau had 12 armor with the bucket, plate, and shield so he would’ve taken 1 damage with 11 defense.
Attack and defense have been fixed, boots not yet. A cobbler is required. 😉
Page is updated now, and Kamau’s def is back to normal. Hopefully that means the duration of the ninja’s spell was just one turn.
Either way, we should be worried about that ninja.
I think the spell the ninja has used looks like some “<wanted> poster” or “briefing” or “information”.. Considering it apparently lowered Kamau’s defenses, then maybe it’s something like “expose weakness” that would i.e. (for a few rounds? for the purpose of one combat?) cancels DEF for the largest armour bonus the target has? (here: plate armour). I would need to calculate that, and I have no brain power right now for this 😐
Shouldn’t be the largest armor bonus because Kamau only took one damage. He was facing a minimum of 6 damage from just weapons. Losing the largest armor bonus would have put him at 6 armor (7 if the plate armor bonus still counts even if the plate doesn’t) and taking one damage with that armor would require something like, only the human has innate attack and the halflings deal 0 damage. I find that unlikely personally, and think it’s more likely that the spell, at least on this turn, only removed 1 defense, putting Kamau at 11 defense against likely 12 attack (6 from weapons, 6 from each enemy having 1 innate strength).
The Halflings need to take 7 or 8 Damage to be OHKOed. Assuming they have 1 Def, that’s 6 or 7 HP and the one attacked by the Spider is down to 1 or 2. That’s low enough for Ricki to finish that guy off even with just a Longsword instead of a Greatsword. Trading weapons with Lara would let her deal more damage, which might be needed to KO the Human in one turn. Then again, Halflings could have Poison resistance or the Ninja could debuff Ricki next. If the Human has 10 HP, Lara and the Spider would be able to OHKO the Human. (Again, unless the Ninja debuffs one of them. Even then, it’s a 50/50 chance if it’s just -1.)
Ricki: Trade your Greatsword for Lara’s Longsword and use it to finish off the guy the Spider attacked. Also, give Lara a Potion so you can wield a the Shield too because why not?
Lara: Trade your Longsword for Ricki’s Greatsword and use it to attack the Human. Also give your Shield to Ricki and take the Potion. (Take as in put in your pocket, not drink.)
Spider: Attack the Human.
Kamau: Interpose and try not to think about whatever meat juices were in the bucket and are dripping on your head.
Just adding a small detail here in case it’s relevant – the halflings COULD take as much as 9 damage to OHKO because we had a crit on Lara this turn that wasn’t mentioned by LSN but is indicated by the glowing red greaves. This is still a good plan though.
15 turns until every 10 turns there’s a problem at the entrance.
