Dungeon 4 Turn 19
————
Ricki and Lara begin to climb the rope leading out of the dungeon while Kamau holds off the rats until the last possible second.
“Kamau, hurry up! I can hear the water coming!”
“Yeah, come on. I’m finally starting to get dry.”
“I’m right behind you, don’t worry.”
Ricki and her friends climb up the rope just moments before the final pipe in dungeon floods with water. The rats are washed away by the water, to eventually escape through grates and tunnels too narrow for even a goblin. The party hurries upward with their treasures in tow, their heist of the rat vault successful.
Dungeon 4 is complete!
Early update bonus: Text colour looks off. Still pretty clear who’s saying what.
There we go, level ups all around and a good 32 gold just with the treasures. Next up, to find out what Paws is up to…
Ah, Kamau, get the rope when you’re out if you can, since Paws has left, at least so you can return it!
Well done, everyone! We got out safely! This was a massive win!
Im impressed that went as well as it did. Now… how much you wanna bet that paws will claim a restroom break was needed? XD
I’d say that’s nearly a foregone conclusion 🙂
huh, so there where mini tunels ommited in art that rats could use to escape water?
knowing that would have helped with worry that rats from flooded zones will amass by exist and be a concern.
The explains why the Red Rat Chest felt oddly easy (to me at least) to unlock. We only had 5 Turns to unlock it!
I called this in a comment on turn 3. We were told at the start that this Dungeon was connected to all the regular pipes, and it’s just this section that warped space into having human-sized pipes. The rats are small enough to get out through those regular sewer pipes, but we needed the exit.
This is the value of information. It takes turns to find out though.
Dungeon 4 lessons:
– Underwater mechanics! Fighting underwater gives the same -1 Atk/Def as being trapped in a web, plus staying underwater at end of turn causes 1 unblockable damage from suffocation. Notably, being in melee combat with surviving opponents prevents you from backing off to breathe. This complicates hit and run tactics. You can open underwater unlocked chests.
– Looting a chest includes putting its contents into your inventory, even if the chest is guarded. There just aren’t that many reasons to kill enemies.
– An enemy directly on a chest does prevent looting that chest. There are some reasons to kill enemies.
– Levers can be moved at a distance by dropping things on them! I’m curious what we could get up to with rope…
– Attacking enemies can cause effects, like spawning new enemies. These won’t attack on the turn they appear, but can expose you to unavoidable trouble on the next turn (though equipment swaps and other abilities might do something about it).
– Smoking will use up resources for no benefit if you don’t pay attention to it. Also, the HP expenditure doesn’t burn Remorse.
– The inventory isn’t fully safe. Torches remain safely lit while moving around, but being totally submerged in water extinguishes them. (Cigarettes are fine.)
– The meaning of items can change quite a bit based on the dungeon. One gold coin isn’t a great find, but one of the three treasures necessary to level up is excellent.
– You really can safely run right by enemies as long as you don’t cross through their space. It’s possible for enemies to guard ladders as in the Tavern Basement, but the ones here didn’t mind.
Thank you for the analysis!
I am not convinced here. The torch was out in the open, when the water flooded in (our mistake, thinking we had another dry turn). That naturally extinguished it. Whether it is safe if in inventory remains to be seen. The cigarettes were in the inventory. But, yes, I would not bet on torches staying dry in the inventory.
I bet torches stay lit in inventory because we’ve had comic comments before that torches stay safely lit in inventory (not just dry, but actually lit). A burning torch in inventory makes no sense anyway, so presumably stowed items are protected by some sort of plot space/device.
Yeah, the torch was out that turn to light the room for Kamau’s attack. Not impossible that it could have survived if we weren’t using it. Hard to experiment with this.
