Dungeon 3 Turn 38
————
Kamau pushes the opened chest from the door room over to the pit and uses it to climb up to the room above.
After his climb, Kamau finds Ricki embroiled in combat with four bats. She manages to kill one of them without taking any damage herself, but only at the cost of her buckler.
Both: Attack a bat next to you
If bats stick to the bottom floor, then I don’t care about them anymore. It slows down our movement through this area since we don’t want to get hit by bats and also something else, but not as much as stopping for turns now to clear them.
If bats fly around the room, then skeletons and the ghoul can kill them for us.
If bats wake up other bats and then join forces despite just eating each other, then we have a problem.
Kamau: Swat one of the flying bats. Go climb the ladder and hang out on the floor above the skeletons, see if bats follow.
Ricki: Trade sword back to Kamau for dagger. Avoiding glass, climb up the ladder and look up at the next room.
That was easier than I thought. Setting Kamau up to start smashing skeletons.
And when you can see the brown thing on the floor behind the skeletons, please tell us what it is! (If it is skeleton-dog-poop, I would be really disappointed!) – Good night everybody, look after Ricki & Kamau.
skeledog-poop! I’m dying from laughing here. 😀
Thank you so much for that comment.

RIP buckler, you’ve served us well (and survived like 3 hits!)
Dammit Ricki
Not really. The buckler has 30% chance of breaking per hit, if Claudious counted well those “like 3 hits”, that would mean it broke on 4th, so we’ve had overall 76% chance that it break now or earlier (so 24% chances that it would survive this 5th hit). IMHO, the shield served very well this time.
If I didnt’ screw up the math, chances of surviving at least N hits, in %, for a few first N:
30%: 70, 49, 34, 24, 16.8, 11.7, 8.2
10%: 90, 81, 73, 65.6, 59, 53, 47.8 (then slowly falls, 31 on 11th, 20 on 15th, 9 on 22nd)
…did someone count how many hits solar armour took so far?
also.. I wonder, if, say, 5 skeletons hit Kamau in solar armour in a single combat round, does that count as 5 checks, or does that count as 1 round of combat and 1 check?
So far I have not thought about it at all, and I “intuitively” assumed that it’s one test per combat round, but I suddenly realized that the wording was “when hit”, so it may actually be the other case. That means that these 4 crappy enemies like bats actually tested that poor buckler 4 times, and we were really really very likely to lose in times like this moment. It also should make us think about solar amour a bit more when sending Kamau into a fight with multiple low-dmg enemies. Dmg doesn’t count for breakage, all non-evaded hits count.
Good job Ricky! You rolled shield break in the most safe manner!
