Dungeon 3 Turn 33
————
Ricki runs under the chandelier and Kamau climbs over it, and they both end up back at the entrance room. Now that they don’t have to worry about skeletons escaping for a little while, they consider where they should go next.
“Kamau, do you know anything about black skeletons?”
“Sounds like a more powerful variant. Not any smarter than normal, but significantly more dangerous, especially in large numbers.”
“And what about flies the size of goblins?”
“You mean an insectoid, like that stalkroach we found? I don’t know that much about them, except that most are tough to kill because of their exoskeletons.”
“Okay, okay. And what about spiders with dog faces?”
“That one sounds made up, I wouldn’t worry about it.”
Ricki: move up stairs, up ladder, watch for glass, and unlock (but don’t open) door to ash skeletons.
Kamau: move up stairs, up ladder, apply holy water to sword and switch to sun head armor.
Prep for ash skeleton fight.
Just FYI: moving up the stairs = 1 movement action. Moving up the ladder to the next room = 1 movement action.
While we can forfeit an actual action (like fighting for example) for one more movement in a single turn (= double move), neither Ricki nor Kamau will be able to do anything after arriving in the room with the (previously) six locked doors.
Let’s save the holy water and the time to fight and just interpose for Ricki to fetch the rope
Also:
Holy water does not need to be used ahead of time. Activating it without an attack would waste a turn of usage.
I also recommend clearing the dogs first. That will show us whether we can just climb down, and also gives us the option to poke bats and double back (though the way this dungeon is going, something else in the room will unleash the bats).
Sounds like the ashen skeletons have a group bonus and are more dangerous at baseline, suggesting 3 attack per when in a group; that’s a problem unless we can effectively split their attacks. I’m also highly confident that it’s a shield on the ground behind them and not a rope, since it has exactly the same colour as the cracked buckler. Still worthwhile as loot, but risky to spend HP on if not actually required.
I think the way to get that bow on the balcony is to have one person stand on the chandelier while another person pulls the lever to send it up. I suggest we do that next.
That’s incorrect. The way to get to the bow would be to go double right from this room (the entrance) (on the top level each of the rooms), while avoiding the glass on the floor and eating up the damage from the sunhead with the sword.
Especially because of the sunhead with the sword, I wouldn’t go after the bow (at least not atm).
We already have a ranged attack for Ricki (the holy missle from the pope hat), and Kamau is better off in melee anyways (that way he can stop Ricki from getting hurt, triggering more remorse for himself).
When/if we get another party member, we can worry about getting the bow. Or if we have to hit something from afar with a physical projectile for some reason (but in that case we still have the throwing dagger).
Ricki:Point out that you have dungeon eyes and literally saw one of those. Behind a locked door.
Awww, and I thought it was a spider-cat, not a spider-dog.
I think it’s clear that Kamau doesn’t know anything about this species, but it probably still is a good idea to tell him that Ricki actually saw one of these things. That way, he won’t be stunned by its appearance/existance, when/if he actually gets to face it (not sure if there are monsters that have such an effect on our characters, but it never hurts to be cautious/prepared)…
EDIT: talking about dogs… it kind of makes me wonder, if it would be possible to distract dogs (or dog skeletons or even spider-dogs) by throwing some object, triggering their instincts to fetch that object and be a GOOD DOG! 😀
Even if that works, it might not be super useful, especially if they are in a group and “only” one dog would go after the object and the others would still perform the attack, but then again, it would reduce the total attack score and therefore we might just be able to avoid taking damage at all in that round…
Do skeleton dogs like to chew on bones? Hmm…
Ricki & Kamau: Head upstairs, mind the glass, and continue up the ladder.
