Dungeon 2 Turn 10
————
Ricki and Kamau each kill one more rat, taking no damage in the process and leaving only one rat alive.
From somewhere up above, they can hear bumping and angry shouting. It seems that some more drunks have entered the dungeon and begun to wander around. They don’t seem very friendly, but if they get killed by dungeon monsters, it’ll be coming out of Ricki and Kamau’s pay!
We are getting paid in food so…. xP
Let’s have Ricki check downstairs. We can have kamau confront and knockout the drunks upstairs in the meantime. Have Ricki point out the glass trap to kamau.
Heck, if Kamau manages to knock out the drunks we can even rob them. (Though if Kamau has a moral objection to that maybe Ricki can just do that later when he’s not looking.)
Kamau: Intercede.
Kamau & Ricki: Walk right past the rat, up the left ladder, avoid the glass, and go past the drunks.
Ricki: Open the (locked?) treasure chest. Loot!
Kamau & Ricki: Head back down (avoiding that glass!) and down the next ladder too.
I’m going to guess that the holes in the wall are basically ladders, given that the hole in this room is in line with the hole up above with the lever (and the halflings). The first hole in the wall we saw also had that obvious up-down connection.
Note that the locked gate is past two dire rats, so I wouldn’t worry about saving a key for it.
So far we have encountered 3 chests and a gate that are most likely locked and need either a key or some thieves tools. Together with the lock on Kamau’s ball and chain, that’s 5 locks.
But we haven’t found a single key yet. (It’s possible that some of the enemies have them in their inventory, or that they are in the unlocked chests or in rooms we have not yet seen, but if I have to decide which lock I can open and which one I can’t I’d like to know ALL the options – of locks – first and not rush the decision.)
Also, if we waste the tools on some lock that we find keys to later, that will be super annoying.
I totally understand wanting to get rid of the ball and chain, and sooner rather than later, but for the reasons listed above, I’m willing to wait a bit longer.
Also, from the way the pipes are going, it’s possible that we have to go past the gate in order to restore the flow of “good ale” to the tavern.
While Kamau finishes the rat, Ricki can go forward and up the ladder, carefully pass the broken glass, and trade her cheap ale for the drunk’s rusty sword. She can try opening the chest while she’s up there.
Awww, it sucks being in another time zone and have 5 updates happen without me even being able to post once!
Please, dear co-players, be more careful about pointing out traps and other stuff to Kamau. While he has a LOT of health, we shouldn’t waste it unnecessarily.
I bet the broom (and possibly the bucket to keep the shards in) in the top level of this room is the key to getting rid of all the broken glass. Which will keep the drunks safe(r) and our meal hearty.
Personally, I think we should leave the last rat for now (alone, it can’t even hurt Ricki anymore, while she’s wearing her armour).
Kamau go up one level (not one room!), avoid the glass on the floor and start to subdue the two drunks there (in front of the locked chest). Together they should have 4 attack, so he will only take 1 damage per round, and that only as long as they are two and have the sword.
Ricki: point out glass to Kamau, then go down the ladder and take a look at the room below.
Part of me wants to check out the drunks that just arrived (if nothing else, then to find out how many there are), but I don’t want to send Ricki alone (would be dangerous) and I don’t want to send her and Kamau up one room to possibly just idle there for one turn, depending on how fast they move from the unlit entry room.
Great call on the broom! We’ll have to keep that in mind when we get up there.
Kamau: get rid of the last rat, move left and up the ladder and stay there (don’t move over the glass!). If there’s still some time left, take out the torch and call out to the two guys (they look like they are from the drunk team) (they will see you thanks to the torch) and use Kamau’s smoothtalking skills: tell them there’s a full barrel just up the ladder above, but closed and surrounded by weak people. They’ve got a sword here, they can easily control the situation there and also open the barrel, yay!
Ricki: move left towards the ladder, collect tails in the meanwhile, take a peek what’s in the room below, follow Kamau leftwards/upwards, prepare to jump over the glass and run for the chest as soon as drunks are enroute to the barrel.
Looking at the map

(thank you to the map provider!), Ricki can get to the fourth floor (counted from the top)
– either through the lattice door, which probably requires the use (possible expenditure) of a set of thieves’ tools
– or through the rat holes, but would Kamau be able to go through those? Three dire rats and three mice would be too much for Ricki to handle alone.
Going there is probably not necessary to restore the flow of beer, but it would be nice to get the sword, the broom, the bucket, the rat tails and the treasure chest.
