Dungeon 16 Turn 8
————

Ricki and Botanya hurry back to join the rest of the party. Botanya stops on the way to pick up the discarded thieves’ tools (well, one of them). She drops two crossbow bolts out of Golly’s packs to make room.

Correctly anticipating the onion’s actions based on what they previously learned from a magic lens, Ricki baits it into swooping down low enough to attack. She and Ix easily dispatch it.
Kamau climbs to a higher level of the clouds.

He finds a stretch of sky with unusual wind currents. He also sees a bunch more corn knights, one of which seems to notice his presence immediately.

Kamau: jump and ride the wind gust up, hack at the corn night on the cloud above you and use that hack as a spring board to keep your momentum to get to the next wind gust without ever touching the cloud itself. Rinse and repeat. Cyclone of death. Assuming the corn knight with the wand doesn’t zap you mid-air.
My theory is that the clouds will move one spot every 5 turns or so.
Also, the dots besides the cloud may indicate how many uses are left (or if they reach 8 or 10 dots they poof). We need to experiment safely
Oh very good observation with the dots!
Based on the destroyed cloud here: https://dungeoneyes.com/dungeon-16-turn-2/
I would say 9 dots is the maximum (or possibly after 9 dots it goes poof, so 10 “uses” total)
Unless I’m missing something, Ix dealt seven damage (5 shock damage from the javelin, plus 2 damage from the atlatl, and ATK bonuses don’t generally count on ranged attacks) and Toaster dealt 1 damage (holy). So where does the ninth dot come from? One option would be to say that damage doesn’t matter and it is a flat 5 or so dots per hit. But I also note that the Pea shot back and although the art shows him doing it from the ground, action simultaneity says that he counts as being on the cloud when he did so. It makes sense that taking an action while on a cloud could be worth a dot. Now, how does this tie to the question of how many dots it takes to break a cloud? Well here’s Ricki’s musing on clouds:
“Ricki takes some time to examine one of the smaller clouds more closely. She knows they can hold a creature, and also that they can dissipate if they take damage. As for how much stress they can withstand, she has no way of knowing. She thinks she’d have to climb onto one or hit one with a weapon a few times to get a better sense. All she knows for now is that Ix and Toaster together can destroy one with their ranged attacks combined, but that the cloud looked like it might have held up against just one of them.”
Since Ix and Toaster combined can destroy a cloud, any contribution from the Pea must have been overkill. Conversely, since Ix can’t do it alone, 7 dots is not enough. Therefore, this theory puts the max health of clouds at exactly 8.
Shocktail does 5 at ranged, plus 2 atlatl and then 1 from the enchant, so 8 from Ix alone, plus Toaster’s 1 is 9.
That said, I’m confident that standing on a cloud between rounds doesnt add to this, but getting on or off (or maybe both) and taking actions could.
The examination description we did may not have i counted the Pea’s action. I’d like to think that a limit of 10 is the easier to work with than 9 math wise but thats just meta gaming.
Regardless, We’ll need to keep a close eye on our actions and the dots around the cloud in turns to come
Plan: Corn
Kamau: Hop on the Cloud and use hilt on Corn Knight. Grab wand when it drops
Ix: Move up and throw Shocktail at Corn Knight. grab helm if it drops
Ricki: Move up and hop on Cloud and Attack corn Knight.
Botania: Move up the 2 clouds and take a moment to see exactly when the cloud gets weaker and by how much. Then scout room above. Try to avoid being spotted by anything.
Want to take out the Wand Wielder asap as if the clouds move him out of range we’ll be peppered non-stop with attacks while fighting the others.
Botania has the rope so she can make a route for the others if the clouds disappear.
Love the helmets xD
