Dungeon 16 Turn 29
————

Botanya raises her shield and runs past the iceberg lettuce. Mostly she covers her eyes and pretends she never saw such a ridiculous enemy.

Botanya explores a new room. This one is also full of peas, but it looks like they’re facing the other way (can’t you tell?) and don’t immediately notice her.

Kamau drops his wand of more magic missile in order to make more inventory space before opening the second chest. However, Ricki warns him that something is off with this one, so he takes extra care before slowly lifting the lid…

…and then gets hit square in the head by the BROCCROACH! A hideous mutation of insectoid and vegetable, the corn general’s foremost assassin! With its four arms it can easily wield a pair of deadly nunchaccoli, weapons that embody perfect health and perfect death with equal intensity! With an acrobatic mid-air somersault it lands ready to strike again at a moment’s

The party kills the broccroach.
Kamau picks up one of its ridiculous weapons to inspect it more closely, with the other remaining on the floor where it belongs.
Princess wonders if he will ever eat again at this rate.

Weight 1, Cost 25

That pea in golden helmet looks … wrong for some reason.
I checked the colors. That helmet’s “yellow” is the same color as Corn’s heads.
There’s nonzero chance that this helmet is corn-related helmet, not golden.
I hope that doesn’t make this pea count as “corn-based enemy”, but then, who knows..
Princess: my cats and dog love eating insects and also like boiled broccolli, maybe you should try some.. Ix probably may fry you some, it probably doesn’t count as “sentient” since the party has just killed one 🙂
As if I ever needed another reason to hate broccoli.
Strap a couple steaks to one of the veggies and see if we can trick Princess that way. Kinda like when you shake a dead rat to get a snake to eat it.
Plan: woups!
I messed up on who had rope so we have to waste a turn juggling inventory. Sorry.
Ricki: case the general. Drop the Midas gloves by the broccoli. Move down and left.
Ix: move down and drop the fire bow by the arrows. Pick up the rope. Move up again after.
Kamau: drop the broccoli weapon by its pair. Go pick up the wand again. Move left and across the cloud to bottom of ladder.
Botania: move left and up ladder. Put item press on golly. Pick up staff and lockpicks.
Idea is to leave bow and arrows together so Ricki can grab them at some point. Botania will scoop up gloves and broccoli later. we’re kinda at a point we need to start dropping items we don’t need anymore like lenses and extra picks.
Next turn we can start operation harvest moon.
General idea for next turn:
Kamau goes up and interposes. Princess bites lettuce. Corn alerted or don’t care.
Ix tie rope to ladder so Ricki can get up.
Ricki: up and down hole and chat with imp (for science) or case chest.
Botania: up and grab broccoli and Midas gloves.
No matter what, there will be at least one turn where all 4 will attack kamau. That’s 38-42 dmg depending vs kamau’s 18 def 60% dodge. Here’s hoping they don’t engage with the lettuce
If there is a chance the 3 corn knights will join on the fight after we engage the lettuce, wouldn’t it be better to attack the lettuce with the full party?
There are other things to do. We could fight the lettuce by the chest, lense the imp before talking to it (for science), we could even summon Paws again and sell all that crap on the floor.
Edit.: I’d also like for Ricki to point out the trap on the floor, even if we are not passing over it. And typing that made me think that the lettuce might grab and throw Kamau or Ricki on the trap.
If corn and lettuce were going to be part of a single encounter, they would be grouped up. I do think it is possible they will alert next turn and engage the turn after and if they do, we won’t have to worry about the trap until after the battle. Kamau can’t interpose 2 melee encounters, so we would need to lure the corn over anyway or kill the lettuce first (which takes 3 turns min).
Fighting lettuce by chest is a 3 turn time sink.
I think we did try to lens imp before but didn’t get a result (not 100% sure).
Using actions to buy/sell won’t net us anything since our main goal is clearing dungeon before t50 and we’re already stuffed with decent loot with more rooms to come.
Lettuce pushing someone into the trap is a legitimate concern though, but I don’t see how having a full party engage prevents that possibility of happening, only puts more people or pets in harms way. All the more reason to send kamau up first solo so he can spring the trap if it happens. I’ll point it out when that time comes though just in case.
The lettuce has a defensive feat allowing her to cancel “first two instances of damage”. It’s specifically worded differently than 2 turns of invicibility for some reason. I’m sure we can dispatch it quicker than 3 rounds, we just need to come up with different sources of damage that are somehow logically separate
I assume “standard combat” counts as one “instance of damage” since it’s single calculation, even if there were multiple attackers. I can’t think of another “instance of damage”, maybe dropping something on her head or pushing her from a platform would do another..
Ok, let’s stick with the easier idea that lettuce is 3 turns, period.
But the lettuce is not aware of us. Just like when we walked on the ladders, it will get angry with “!” if we just pass by, and will lose that turn.
How about we rush and attack the 3 corn knights instead of the lettuce?
However many we kill, that’s this many less that Kamau will have to tank when the lettuce joins.
And Ricky can point out the trap while we run there, and we can stick to the right side and keep ourselves busy with corn knights, making the lettuce go over the trap, maybe hurting itself in the process (and losing one invulnerability point just like that)
Some enemies are known to “guard” ladders and such and are already on alert. With how close that lettuce is to ladder, I think there’s a good chance it will attack.
We gotta assume worst case scenario for each option:
If lettuce takes a swipe while party moves to engage corn we risk 4 remorse if it targets Ix
If we engage lettuce and corn auto engage kamau, he has dodge and high def.
Sorry to bother again:
> Botania: move left and up ladder. Put item press on golly. Pick up staff and lockpicks.
OK, Golly’s inventory as well as Botania’s one are full then.
> Botania: up and grab broccoli and Midas gloves.
Botania needs to consume or drop items first to have free inventory spaces.
Yeah, we prob drop coins or something. We just need to discuss what items have priority
inventory is hell I miss Sue >.<
Claudious plan but starting on lettuce
Pretty sure lettuce will attack instantly if we go up ladder, monsters skip the ! turn when we get too close. Also think corn want us to hit trap when moving to them so will be patient. So killing lettuce first is the bottleneck if we wanna avoid a 40+ dmg combined fight.
Ricki: case the general. Drop the Midas gloves by the broccoli. Move down and left.
Ix: move down and drop the fire bow by the arrows. Pick up the rope. Move up again after.
Kamau: drop the broccoli weapon by its pair. Move left and interpose lettuce
Princess: Bite lettuce
Botania: move left and go up ladder. Put item press on golly. Pick up staff and lockpicks.
This guarantees 2 rounds of 40+ dmg on kamau. If we wait, it’s only 1.
If kamau engages now, it means
Next turn ix ties rope and Ricki can engage but cannot kill a corn by themselves. Combat dmg is 40+.
Following turn, ix can join the fray but that’s a second turn of 40+.
I don’t want to learn on rng that much…
I think the corn won’t attack at all cuz they placed a trap in front. like, the lettuce obviously pick a fight with anyone going up the ladder and if the corn join that fight, placing the trap in front is pointless.
But even if they do, the pets can help ricki oneshot a corn with garg gland if we really need to.
It’s 24 to one shot each of those corn knights.
With gargantuan glad Ricki does 18-21. Pets can add 5 since golly won’t be there. That’s a 25% chance we don’t kill it
This is a plan I’m confortable with. It keeps parts of Claudious plan.
Ricki: case the general. Drop the Midas gloves by the broccoli. Move down and left.
Ix: move down and drop the fire bow by the arrows. Pick up the rope. Go back up and stay away from the fight.
Kamau: get up on that ledge and engage the iceberg lettuce by the chest. Heavy attack with hilt (13 damage). Kamau has 12 def and 60% evade without the tower shield. This will break the first layer of Defense the lettuce has.
Botania: move left and up ladder. Put item press on golly. Pick up staff and lockpicks.
Corn General moves and plans. If we can’t one-shot them, they will move to a more advantageous position. I think there is a high chance they will go to the lettuce. General can also call for reinforcements. That might also be the lettuce. Kamau can tank the lettuce for two turns while chipping the ice crust away.
We can fight the upstairs lettuce next.
Could be. But we do know that lettuce can’t use ladders
I guess it’s pretty sure. Otherwise it would follow us up instead of breaking the ladder.
However, it might be able to jump/fall down the ladder. I think it’s unlikely, since it’s “huge”. But that one thing I wouldn’t take for granted, as opposed to being unable to climb up.
