Dungeon 15 Turn 54
————

Lara retreats to the room’s entrance, where Sue quickly feeds her another ectoplasm potion. However, the high priestess (boosted by the nearby brazier) casts a deadly poisonous spell at her as she flees, undoing the health restoration she just received. Lara remains at 2 HP, and leaves the room entirely because she doesn’t think she can survive another hit like that.
Amadeusz lights his last cigarette, leaps over Lara’s head on her way out, and takes her place. She and Ricki attack the high priestess fiercely, now that she has no minions to defend her. They deal a huge amount of damage, and the priestess staggers back, defeated. Amadeusz snatches her staff away before she can even hit the ground.
However, as the party has come to expect by this point, she doesn’t stay down for long.

The drider high priestess lunges to its feet, thirsty for blood.

Cue the final boss music….
Plan: end this.
Ricki: attack HP drider with Swift blade.
Wolf: maul the HP drider. Grab whatever drops besides chain. Drop poison glands to make room.
Daisy: attack the HP drider.
Sue: throw the shocktail with the atatl. Grab the chain that drops. Drop the regular helm to make room. (Store on golly, swap the big gland to sue)
Lara: move up. Move right. Action move right again to give yourself some distance incase drider pursues
34 damage total. Here’s hoping…
Nothing to say here. If she is drider intelligence she’ll go for ricki. If she is somewhat smart still she would prob go for Wolf or ricki. If she is still really angry, she may chase Lara.
Correction: Throw the shocktail with the atlatl.
Suggestion: Have Wolf drop his poison glands, shield and helmet (in that order) if he needs more room.
Amad holds a spider totem. Did driders reacted to it too, right?
Driders did not react to the totem which we tested with the Drider in the waist room that threw Ricki. I think in this case we still prefer if the DHP targets Ricki anyway since she has dodge chance and highest defense of the squad.
Corrections:
Damage total is 38, not 34.
Golly should loot chain, Sue can drop basic helmet.
Lara cant move up 3 times, theres only 2 rooms up. I think she should go to gargantula room instead since she cant be cornered in a corridor there.
Made the changes. Doesn’t really matter which way Lara runs. It’s a dead end either way. However, on the off chance the remaining spiders are moving to help she’s heading to the safest spot.
How did staves work? Did they recharge in between the dungeons, or were their charges permanently used up, as opposed to wands?
I’ve just remembered that there’s ‘grounded boots’ with their 50% chance of sparing charges, and I think Lohk had some fancy wands/staves skills on level up, but was there ‘recharge’ too? That “cut def in half” is just so ridiculously OP.
I wonder, could we have avoided it somehow. Like, camp at the brazier and wait until HP teleports-in and attack immediately. Would we get a free attack with no counter since she’s technically moving/spawning and have used actions that turn? Probably yes.. That makes me think, we could just sit and wait patiently at any brazier we’ve found and cleared from monsters, she teleports-in, no guards, no time counterattack or summon new guards, bonk, done (oO)
IIRC, Staves have a finite number of charges and you can only spend one of those charges per dungeon. So if a Staff has 5 Charges, we can use it in once each in 5 separate dungeons, except for cases like the Grounded Boots or Lohk’s Cane’s ability, which can give extra uses.
Regarding waiting at a Brazier for the HP to teleport in, it wouldn’t work since she teleports/spawns at the very end of the turn. There was no avoiding the Spiderbite.
I think the only possible way we could have maybe obtained the staff without it being used was if we had and used rickis steal ability. Still not sure if that would work tho
Right.. Combo of stealth and steal.. yeah, that could work
Let me guess: Lara would have turned into something similar to this (and attacked the remainder of the party), if she had hit her own corruption cap, instead of finishing the bond Dungeon?
Yes, that was what LSN said in the wrap-up for her dungeon. More specifically, she would have turned into what she is now, but not retained self-control and attacked the party. In any dungeon other than her bond dungeon she’d be unsavable. If it had happened during the bond dungeon at any time other than during the ending cutscene (like if we had used a corruption point in there), we would have had to run from/dodge her while making our way to the lighter, which would have triggered largely the same happy-ish ending if we successfully got to it.
She looks sad. Give her a hug
Well, the plan of ClaudiousDark *is* to give her a very hard/strong hug. It is necessary to apply the necessary force to make her feel anything. Hope the hug puts her out of her misery.
Really hoping this is taking a long time because we successfully beat the dungeon, rather than because he’s having to draw everyone dying o_o;;
