Dungeon 13 Turn 12
————
After being healed by Amadeusz for another 1 HP, Lara climbs up the wall and grabs the keys near the ceiling. They have an extremely helpful label that says “DOOR”.
Ricki opens a chest and finds a non-bent version of a wand she had a long time ago.
Cordy pulls the lever, which causes the machine under their feet to rumble briefly before snapping back to its original position. It seems the wisp has been transferred from the right canister to the left one, and changed to a different element along the way!

WAND OF MAGIC MISSILE
Wand
Deals 1-3 damage at range. Cannot miss.
Weight 1, Cost 40
Ideas:
Cordy feels underused. He has a lot of Atk now, he would be a big help, shooting with wand to trigger “infestation” is just a waste. But on the other hand, “Infestations” creates mushies that we can eat and heal anyone. His skill doesn’t specifically say that the enemy must be killed by poison coming from Cordy. It only says “with poison”. Let’s check how far we can bend it?
Amad: heal Lara last time
Lara: drink potion, go 1 room left
Cordy: give your want to Amad
Ricky: inspect chest that seems to block the ladder, loot it (if possible at all); if it blocks the ladder and you still have actions, try pushing it away
why: aside from “obvious actions”, we check the chest that seems open but doesn’t strictly have to be empty, and it’s important to know if it blocks the passage or not
Next turn, continue the experiment:
Amad: sting the titan with wand, add some poison damage to the attack, so Infestation sees “poison damage” on the titan
Cordy: attack titan, be in that combat, so Infestation can trigger
Lara: attack titan, we need it to go in one turn
Ricky: unlock the chest behind the titan while it’s busy fighting
why #1: Lara has 9def, more than Amad or Cordy. If we risk Amad or Cordy taking damage, Lara is at lesser risk actually.
why #2: Combo Amad+Cordy checks if infestation needs poison specifically from Cordy, or from any source that adds poison to the attack in turn when enemy “dies”. Amad’s attack is weak, we need more Atk to kill the skeleton. Cordy has noticeable Atk, but we don’t know if it’s enough. Lara has “a lot” as well, so Cordy+Lara +2 from Amad should be enough, I GUESS. I didn’t count and compare with previous times when we attacked titans.
why #3: do we know if titan, busy with combat that has just started, can also make a free-hit against other people passing it? If not, Ricky will test it!
—
Other ideas.
If we think Cordy+Amad are enough against titan. Lara could go left and try using key labelled “DOOR” to unlock the top-level door leading further left.
If we know that enemies-in-combat CAN do extra free hits against passers-by, Ricky could instead check the red pipe, see if she can pass through it, but not go in yet. Or inspect wisp container at hand and i.e. try to open it (one wisp should be “safe”, and we will see if it runs past her and joins wisps on the bottom), or even try to damage/destroy the container to screw up imperial plans?
Trading is an action and Amadeusz’ inventory is full. Besides, the Sting Wand is still good on Cordy for helping take out Wisps. The Magic Missile Wand should find its way onto Amy at some point though.
Oh crap. I didn’t notice Amad has no space. But I suppose he could drop wand-of-mend to make room. And regarding trading items – that’s why Cordy spends his action to do that. Does Amad has to spend an action too? I was quite sure that only 1 person involved has to spend the action (either giver or receiver), and the other person is involved for free.
If you want the item to go from one inventory to the other, it’s an action for both chars. We kinda get around this by having a chat drop an item on their turn( for free) and then next turn only the receiver needs to spend the action to pick it up. Just like we did with the potion for Lara.
I am confused about the discussion of Amad not having any space in his inventory. See Golly’s abilities:
Distributed Weight: Carried items always have a weight of 1.
Handy Packs: Can trade items freely with owner, requiring no action from them.
As far as I understand the inventory and pet mechanics Amad *does* have room to be able to pick up or otherwise receive one item (of any weight) because even though he is currently shown with a full inventory (all 9 slots full) on the Current Party page, his pet is Golly the pack mule who has one inventory space free and trading items between a pack mule and its owner *is* a free action, essentially making the pack mule’s extra 5 inventory spaces into more inventory for its owner.
So Amad could pick up something or receive something from another character and just immediately stow that item on Golly, or even move a stack of Raw Meat to Golly and keep the new item in “his own” inventory. I even think that Amad can use an Item while it is still shown as being on Golly (e.g. the Upgrade Press, see Turn 1), so I think that Amad could receive the Wand of Venomous Sting and it could be shown on Golly and Amad could use it next turn even if it is being shown as being in Golly’s inventory rather than in his own personal inventory on the Current Party page.
I assume that a character cannot equip a weapon, armor or shield that is in their pack mule’s inventory, especially a multi-slot item, but as far as I can tell if Lara currently had Golly the pack mule as her pet she *could* have the Tower Shield (weight 2) equipped and the Siegesword (weight 2) on Golly but only taking up only one inventory space on Golly because a pack mule’s inventory slots can hold items of any weight and she could then freely switch between the Tower Shield and the Siegesword on any turn because equipping and unequipping items is a free action and moving items between a character and their pack mule is a free action.
I look forward to any clarification the more experienced players can provide.
Slurp the grape jello.
Lara, drop the poorly labeled keys and the tower shield you’re not using so you can pick up the wisp container next turn. New pet!!!
Cordy, tell your yellow-eyed mushroom pet to go find out where the red tube goes.
Ricki, sneak past the big skeleton and pick the lock on the chest it is guarding.
Ameduesz, turn into Wolf and eat some raw meat while playing violin to protect Ricki from the skeleton.
Slight tweak to Que’s plan so we don’t waste an action with Cordy (since amad is using his action to heal and has no space)
Amad: heal Lara last time
Lara: drink potion, go 1 room left
Ricki: pick up the staff
Cordy: inspect chest that seems to block the ladder, loot it (if possible at all); if it blocks the ladder and you still have actions, try pushing it away. If none of that takes an action, examine the red pipe and see if Ricki could fit
Since Lara is not attacking anything, I recommend specifying that she is unequipping the Siegesword (-1 Def) and equipping the Tower Shield (+4 Def) instead, just on the tiny chance that she encounters something that can damage her because I’m not sure how strict the GM is about things that should be obvious like that (e.g. Lara has a both weapon that reduces her Def by 1 and a shield that increases her Def by 4 but cannot use both at the same time because the weapon is two-handed, so if she isn’t specified as attacking then she should be holding the shield instead of the sword). I’d really like to know if the GM is a strict hard@$$ and we need to specify even fairly obvious things or if we can assume that characters will do what makes sense before Lara gets almost killed or killed yet again.
RE: Lara: drink potion, go 1 room left
Other than re-scouting, is there any reason to move Lara left this turn?? If she is going to try the keys labeled “DOOR” on the locked door next turn she can always move left then. If she is re-scouting then why not have her move all the way down to the center room (where the winter wolf was), since she can return to either this room or the room with the locked door next turn.
I’m just trying to understand the reasons why certain things are being done so that I can become a better player.
Lets keep flipping the lever until we see all colors on that wisp. This is my plan to get a pet wisp.
It sounds like it would actually work.
