Dungeon 12 Turn 29
————
Amadeusz, Lara, and Cordy swim back to the left. Amadeusz eats one of the raw steaks off the ground while also being healed by the wand of mend that Cordy picked up. He recovers 4 HP in total. Lara picks up the harpoon that she threw a while back.
All three are able to breathe this turn.
Ricki spends the turn paralyzed, then gets paralyzed again. Next turn will also be like this. I can’t even promise I’m going to draw a different panel.
Ghoul Stunlock confirmed. Here’s hoping for a good roll sometime soon
I CALLED IT!
I hope we get a good roll at all. I’m still worried as f* that ‘paralyzed’ doesn’t mean she can “dodge”. Though, to be fair, “Dodgy I: Incoming attacks have a 10% chance to miss.” doesn’t at all mention the need of any movement (except for the skill name). Let’s keep fingers crossed.
Is 10% even decent against 2 attacks?
Also, hillariously, when I suggested if grabbing that oxymoss was worth it,I got the response of “oxymoss prevents 3 HP of drowning,if we receive more than that,it’s not worth it”.So the plan relies on the frog not eating Ricki & crushing her.
Ricki also has a Gold ring of dodge so she is at 40% dodge chance. We dont know what the % chance of paralysis the ghouls have but we do know it sometimes doesnt work.
Thankfully we are not losing hp, just turns which we have to spare (for now)
Yeah, a fate worse than death: forever paralyzed in a place where no one can come to help.
Lara: Move up, then right. Use your Action to swim right again and end your turn above water.
Cordy: Swim up. Use the Mend Wand on yourself. End your turn with the Pet Master.
Amadeus: Eat another piece of meat. You deserve it. Maintain position.
Ricki: Please don’t be stunned.

Gets us eyes on all layers of water, and puts everyone in position to pop the reformed Polyp, wherever it appears.
Lara can’t swim right twice after she swims up. Did you mean:
Lara: Move up, then right and climb out of the water. Use your Action to climb the ladder to the room where the Baatles used to be
?
I think you’re forgetting the empty crossroads room.

Up, Right, Right seems perfectly fine for Lara. 2 Mov + 1 extra Mov paid by 1 Action. After this, Lara will end up in “near-death experience” room. Ah, memories.
Yay,separating the party.
Is the plan for her to kill a Barnacle from range (to avoid recoil damage)
What about keeping Cordy in this room and having Amad-wolf go up to Pet Master’s secret underwater base? The poison source egg sack is likely either going to reform on the lowest cleared level (this room), or the most recently killed one (also the one in this room), or randomly so it seems most likely that the one in this room will respawn and Cordy can then safely kill it with the wand from the dry platform while Amadeus and Lara collect coins and deal with the puzzle chest. If it respawns in the room with Pet Master then Amad-wolf can claw it to bits (taking 1 unblockable). If the first one reforms then Lara can probably kill it without taking damage by using the harpoon (repeatedly).
I guess my follow up turns, if the 3rd-Layer Polyp is regrown and Amy takes it out, is Cordy heading up to the entrance so he can start regrowing Shrooms from the fish, Lara can work on getting the puzzle chest open, and the two can trade so Cordy can start wearing the Full Helmet and have a respectable Def value.
So did I, we probably just have different priorities. If Cordy takes out the 3rd-Layer Polyp with the wand, I think that would produce an extra mushroom without Amy or Cordy taking any damage, thus +1 ‘shroom, -1 damage, tells us how much damage the Polyps can take, but takes more time. My thought was to try to maximize potential resources rather than rushing to do things as quickly as possible. While that could theoretically cause us problems later IF something bad other than Polyps respawning happens on a future turn (e.g. 40, 50, 60…) but unless that happens we should have plenty of time so it would be good to avoid unnecessary damage and get any possible extra mushrooms/healing.
The egg sac didn’t die to 4 damage (a thrown spear). That means it would take Cordy 5+ turns to kill it that way. Since we didn’t get an “almost” note with the spear, good chance it’s 6+ turns.
It would be more efficient to have him sting fish (2 turns per fish) and someone else take out egg sac. We have at least 4 fish left in locations he can safely breathe.
Perhaps I am confused but the description of the Wand of Venomous Sting says that it does 2 poison damage, while the Rotfang Hood allows it to bypass poison immunity, which presumably the egg sack has. At 2 damage per Turn it should take 3-5 turns to destroy an egg sack. The Skeletal Swarmfish seem to take two hits from the wand and we’d need to take out an extra fish just to get an edible 1 HP healing mushroom to make up for the 1 HP of damage Amy would take from destroying the egg sack hand-to-hand, so that would be 4 turns. I don’t see why sending Cordy to hunt fish immediately is efficient in terms of either resource maximization or time.
This does leave me wondering why the Skeletal Swarmfish that have 2HP according to their entry on the Enemies list take two hits from the wand to kill
Fish has poison immunity, 2hp, and 1def
Hood disables immunity, but def stays.
First shot makes 2dmg-1def = 1dmg, fish is still live-ish.
Second shot makes 2dmg-1def = 1dmg, fish is deader.
Ok. Thanks for explaining. I need to learn the mechanics better. So what I wrote is true if the egg sack has Def:0 , while what Jing wrote about the egg sack taking 5+ turns to kill with the wand would be true if the egg sack had Def:1 (like a Swarmfish) , and the Wand of Venomous Sting by itself would be unable to hurt the egg sack at all if it had Def:2+ and would require an additional attacker, such as someone throwing a harpoon, for the wand to make any difference.
Since a thrown harpoon does 4 damage and that was enough to damage the egg sack, that means its Def is 0, 1, 2 or 3. It might be Def:0 with a decent amount of HP or Def: 1-3 with at least a moderate amount of HP.
When Lara threw a harpoon at an egg sack on Turn 14, “It does some damage but not that much,” so we can probably assume it has Def 2 or 3 and would thus be immune to the wand unless it was used in conjunction with another attack.
Thus taking out an egg sack from a range safe from its unblockable death poison burst would probably require two characters throwing harpoons at the same time (possibly with aid from the wand) or damaging it hand-to-hand first and then backing off to use harpoon and/or wand.
I think I see why there were two harpoons.
we can have ricki’s mushroom attack to have a greater chance of a free turn
I don’t know if pets can attack independently. Also if it dies, it will do very little damage, but leave Ricki with one less attack and one less defense and no ability to make a new little mush.
Better to have it attack on a turn she is allowed to attack. It hopefully shouldn’t be too long, given that she has a respectable dodge chance and these guys have <100% stun chance.
She still has to get past the frog,& hopefully NOT be eaten automatically.
If she gets swallowed, it doesn’t kill her, it just applies -atk -def penalty, and she still can sting the frog with her sword from inside it.
I agree that there’s no point in sending Mushy as solo attacker. But I also think there is no point in using it for attack at all. Zero reasons. Ricky can 1-hit-kill a ghoul. What would a mushy add to that? It can’t 1-hit-kill the other ghoul. And it would risk being killed, and Ricky would just lose its bonuses.
I think the idea was using the Mushroom as bait so Ricki has one less ghoul (or maybe two) attacking her. guaranteeing she can act next turn and kill another one.
That, and if it’s on a turn she’s already killing a ghoul then it should be automatically replaced because of the death spores.
No, cuz ghouls are immune to poison.
Thankfully, the Wand of Mend allows for infinite healing (as long as we keep it next to the injured ones,& the injured ones away from enemies).
So,we need to take out the last Barnacle. It’s either past the 3 skeletons OR 5 skulls.Which is more likely?
Couple of theories:
Could be that there are 2, one in each direction.
Could be one and a boss (that this the source)
Could be the last one and an optional boss (my hope)
We can handle both Directions but I think only Lara can safely get past skeletons.
Ricki, tell the ghouls your pregnant and one of them is a father. That might stun them back
Plan: Start clearing the way and learn what’s down there so we can prepare properly
With harpoon, Lara has 17 def underwater, which is perfect because 2(fish) + 3*3(skelies) + 2*3(poison) = 17
She will break their weapons, making that room safer for everyone.
We have vision on 2 of the 3 popped sources so we already know exactly where it re-spawns even if we can’t see it. Cordy is in position to pop the source on layer 2 or 3 next turn and we are in no hurry for the layer 1 source.
Cordy: Mend Lara
Amad: Eat meat
Ricki: Dodge!
Lara: Equip harpoon. Move right. Move down. Go to the coins(did that aggro skeletons?) before action moving left to scout new room and break skellies’ rusty weapons
Just charge ahead to get eyes on a new room… with only 3 HP (4 after being Mended), no little mushroom pet, no Diving Helmet, no Oxymoss, no Wish Coins, none of whatever’s in that chest Ricki is risking her life to get to? It’s risky but might work out well so long as all the calculations are correct, nothing surprising happens, and nothing goes wrong. However I would really prefer to collect some resources and get some healing to be better prepared before trying this plan.
Are we sure poison water is 3? I thought we were running with 4
I don’t know, however I’d like to point out that just because the poison water damage was X on turn Y on level Z doesn’t mean the poison damage will be X on turn 30 on level 4. It is risky to assume we know for certain EXACTLY how things work. Lara has already had one near death experience on this adventure.
