Dungeon 12 Turn 17
————
Ricki takes a deep breath and swims back to the second clump of eggs. She hacks it apart with her swiftblade, which is more than enough to tear it apart on top of the damage Lara already did. She takes 1 damage from the explosion of concentrated poison, but the water in the room clears up.
Lara drinks the potion off the ground (while underwater, don’t think about it too hard), and also receives healing from Amadeusz, recovering a total of 3 HP.
Cordy picks up another wish coin from the floor near the air pocket. However, two of what appeared to be ordinary skulls animate and attack! Well, they don’t animate so much as they turn out to have little crabs inside them. Cordy is so surprised they can’t defend themselves properly, and they take 2 unblockable damage from the pair of crustaceans. Ouch!
Ricki swims down and explores the next room. Looks like this lower level still has plenty of poison in it, but she quickly identifies the source. She takes 1 damage from drowning.
All right. Last room. Endgoal in sight. We need to be careful with Ricki since she only has 3HP and if she progresses forward alone, she’s going to get killed by the fish and hermit skulls. The question is, do we wait for Ricki to journey alone to get the oxymoss, or do we have everyone attack at once to get through everything as fast as possible? I vote the latter option. We still have Ricki’s Grit ability, which heals EVERYONE for 3HP. If we recuperate in the Pet Master room and just heal everyone as much as possible, we can have everyone STICK TOGETHER and kill everything as much as possible and destroy the barricades as quick as possible. We can also transform Amadeusz back to a human while we recover in the Pet Master room and have him use both his musical charges to automatically shave two HP off all the enemies. Because that’s a lot of enemies in this last room, especially if the skulls turn out to also be crabs. If we throw our javelin at the puffer fish, we can get it to explode and damage the other puffer fish and possibly the barricade. This is NOT the dungeon for us to go risking completionist tasks.
I was mistaken about my last comment. This is not the last room, but probably the penultimate one. And destroying all the egg sacks is probably what opens that blue chest, while the last room probably has the monster that’s the source of the egg sacks. Destroying the egg sack in this room probably only clears the poison in that tiny body of water, but not the larger one. It might not be worth it to waste time clearing the second barricade and killing the puffers, especially given that turn 20 is when the poison gets worse and our progress will be undone. We need to beeline it to that boss (AFTER we all Grit, of course).
Sounds like Ricki is saying that is THE source of poison of this lower level. Which would mean removing it would let us fight the big fish group without poison
Penultimate is pretty optimistic. There’s at least one layer down in the main shaft, and likely one or more side-rooms.
Ama’s music would only damage the pufferfish and potential crabs – living enemies only.
What if we just dumped some holy water into this whole room. It’ll spread as easily as that poison from that walled-off part, because dungeon logic
Plan: overdue heal.
Lara, amad, Ricki and Cordy: regroup at the pet master and GRIT!
Everyone move right to center shaft.
This gets us in striking distance of school of fish below which we need to do to get deeper. Idea is to use full group and mushies to split attacks and thin them quickly. I am hopeful that this row of water is clean now so there is only one room of poison while moving.
If things are still too poisoned, we may need to send Cordy somewhere safer and just have him snipe fish for new mushies to replenish our ranks.
Going to source via the southern route makes us deal with a whole other school and drowning dmg. No thank you
Southern, yeah, assuming we want to destroy the eggsack and go down the shaft, then we either have to pass/fight through 11 skelefish, or just 6. Plus 2 pufferfish, but these can’t be avoided anyways. I wonder about this big skeleton. It is TALL and has LONG arms. The pixels still don’t add up and it doesn’t seem like it can reach up all the way, and I don’t think it can jump – but I suppose it would be best to watch out while passing it, and add a note to keep far away from it, etc.
I vaguely remember Kamau saying the big ones are just stronger version of basic skeletons. I might have to re-binge the tomb again to be sure though, it’s been a while now >.<
Good memory! D9T30, also D9T54.
Shouldn’t we use Grit soon? It’s 3 HP for everyone!
That is literally what this plan is proposing. It’s the second line.
Plan to make a safe staging point before attacking the giant fish group. And Ricki’s comment this turn seems to imply this new source is responsible for the poison of this whole level so it may let us fight the big group without poison. It would also let Cordy and Lara replace their missing mushies before the big fight.
Everyone grit at pet master. Lara checks the room right to confirm poison is gone on that whole level then come back
Ideas for the future:
19
Everyone attack a fish in the room below pet master. Cordy spore touch for new mushie. Amad sacrifice his mushie to distract the last fish.
20
Ricki destroy barricade 1 with her 10 atk
Amad finish last fish
Lara get new mushie, kill puffer 1 while her new mushie distract puffer 2
Cordy sting puffer 2
Both puffers explode, we’re +1 net mushie and Lara can surface for air
21
Ricki destroy barricade 2 with her 10 atk
Lara loots skeletitan chest
Cordy gets new mushie and drinks greater healing
Amad plucks eggs
Everyone can surface for air
We should keep in mind that turn 20 is coming up so water may get more toxic or the clean water may turn toxic again
Potential problem with the “everyone grit this turn” plan – will the crabs get a parting shot on Cordy making this net 1 healing and leaving him at 2 HP?
Su,just to be sure, there are ONLY 3 Barnacles total in this dungeon, right? So,there can’t be more hidden elsewhere. Will they respawn in the same place,or an entirely different room?
I have no strong disagreements with any plans in the comments,I only suggest we use Grit soon to give everyone 3 extra HP.Maybe have Cordy absorb another minion.
I wonder what’s to the right of the Skele-Titan/beneath the blowfish in the previous room.A whole pile of wish coins?
It looks like we are using grit this turn so no worries.
We also don’t know the number of sources so we need to be careful with assumptions.
Why would you assume that there are only 3?
We don’t know how many there are (probably started at 2, then up to 3, now 2 again), in the main area of water, but we’ve seen one, and now potentially a second, that appear to have been in isolated water. So there could be 2 more beyond the one we’ve seen, depending on how walls work in water.
We don’t know how they’re spawning. New ones may all be spawned in one new location, or they may reappear in the places they previously were spawned.
To the right of the big skel is the pack of 6 fish in the central shaft.
Also there’s a full map of what we’ve seen at bit.ly/dungeon-eyes-map
Avoid crab parting shot weakening Cordy, but delay us by 1 turn plan:
Ricki: Kill a crab, then surface in the alcove
Cordy: Surface in the alcove, then venom sting Ricki’s crab for an extra mushie
Lara: Kill the other crab
Ama: Mend Cordy
EDIT: I just realized at least 1 skull switched orientation when the crabs attacked Cordy. So there’s probably at least 1 more crab.
While he would be terrible in every other way for this dungeon, I’m kinda missing Kamau’s Cleave.
Theory: Skulls facing right contain crabs.
Plan: Ricki gets a tattoo of a skull on her groin, make sure it faces left.
