Dungeon 12 wrap up stream notes:
– Skull crabs are fairly realistic hermit crabs. The matriarch was originally going to be more realistic with a giant skull but it was cuter as is
– Pet master always offers a pet egg or pet item. Dungeon drop eggs are fixed (like Phoenix) but pet master eggs are random from all pets and some pet master unique
– Lifejacket pet item: +1HP, +1 Def, immune to drowning and no penalty from underwater fighting
– 3 skeletons, 1 skull crab, and 20 skeleton fish from clearing the dungeon
– Skull piles in boss room were just to mess with us
– Bucket of poison would’ve done 3 poison damage to an enemy and maybe a group. Using dungeon hazards on enemies can work, though most enemies in this dungeon were built to handle the hazards.
– Could probably self-inflict damage to trigger poison resistance, as an action
– 3 poison damage per room where you enter the water, including starting your turn in the water
– Crab boss randomly chose target at the end, if it targeted Ricki (and hit through dodge) then that would’ve been game over
– Music abilities work underwater.
– The blue chest was opened by drowning 25 times.
– Coccyx can swim because they’re smarter than enemy skeletons, which could still jump
– The turn 50 hazard wasn’t decided ahead of time, expected that this dungeon wouldn’t go this long and needed to push for an ending
– The crab boss was a poison source and needed to be killed for dungeon clear. The boss could be fought in clear water if egg sacs were cleared
– Skull crabs are ignored by undead, including Coccyx. This was the counter much like fire bats vs Botanya in the crypt
– Skull crabs are enemies, not traps. Earlier sets of skulls were to give a relatively safe setting to discover them before the massive pile by the boss
– Skull crabs could be revealed safely from a distance by ranged attacks but only if they deal damage through defense. Coccyx could’ve targeted skulls.
– Clearing a dungeon requires both killing all enemies and meeting the goal. A full clear will give some kind of bonus that will be figured out if we ever do it.
– Harpoon skeletons were only alerted when swimming down, including to leave the area. Just the surface was okay.
– Most enemies don’t have a Mov stat, though patrolling variants can be given movement. Examples: Stalkroach, pigeon
– Skeletal fish had a fixed patrol, not exploring the dungeon. This is unlike smart guards which track where they’re gone.
– Raw meat could distract swarm fish, but not skeletal fish
– Bringing regular gold coins into the dungeon would’ve turned them into wish coins. The Midas glove also produced wish coins, they’re coins in a well.
– Identical effects (potions, wanted poster) don’t stack. Different names could make them stack.
– Rusty armour only rolls break chance if it protects you from damage. AoE damage can break it, dodge protects armour.
– Floor item use is restricted to avoid wasting time. Keep this in mind when trying to use items.
– In general, attacking non-enemies shouldn’t stop movement
– Poison water is diffuse eggs
– Swarm fish would have attacked the Blowfish if the poison source was removed while all still alive
– Lara uses her passenger’s move when carrying. Lohk could be carried 2 rooms but wouldn’t then be able to get off and move again.
– Upgrade Press needs identical weapons, including enchantments and Imperial-ness
– Fish respect the sanctity of pet battles
– Toaster would also take drowning/poison damage, just not for the same reason as biological – not waterproof.
– Ricki could sneak by skull crabs along the ceiling because she’s Small
– Coccyx will still be attacked back if attacking mindless undead (though if they’re sniping then they can be safe)
– Question for us: Why didn’t Lara swim up through two enemies instead of back through the death gauntlet? The first pile of damage was a little unclear with the underwater enemies only becoming alerted when moving through the exit, but then it was clear that enemies were waiting.
– Drider Bite levels up to 3, Frenzy levels to 3 and can hit allies but is always optional.
– Implied that all leveled abilities go to 3, which checks out. This implies that Venomous Sting III is probably the cap for 3 damage, maybe 3-4.

and to answer your question about running Lara through the Gauntlet, I think there was a desire to grab the harpoons before the skeletons could rearm themselves. I voted for the 2 fish direction personally…
I just finished watching the stream vod, there a couple answers missing from here:
-Giant enemy crab could grab 2 people but only attack 1 (grabbed people take 1 unblockable per turn)
-Giant enemy crab had no weak point.
-Attacking moving targets is ruled in our favor(Ricki can chase down pigeons and run from patrols)
-We can move after attacking a dungeon element or hazard. He said he may have made a mistake with spider webs in the temple unless we got caught in them.
-Being eaten by a frog only debuff you starting next turn
-Frogs always eat the smallest target
-Swarmfish have unintelligent targetting, we got unlucky
-Lara can carry people out of mov to other rooms but it still cost them mov. He gave example that Lara can carry Lohk 2 rooms but Lohk wont have any mov after.
-Numbers always round down
-Could throwing fish or rats at frogs work? “IDK, try it”

Observation: greater crit gear is just out of reach for smiffing silver Accessory rings, that’s a shame. Plus side, the Midas Gloves are the first accessory capable of making a gold accessory hands ring, which I suspect might grant extra inventory space. We can’t buy a full helmet, but that can make a silver accessory head ring without burning the Rotfang Hood or Diving Helmet; I’m not sure what that might boost. We haven’t yet seen boots expensive enough to make a silver feet accessory ring, which I expect would boost Move. We also have that second staff, which could make a gold ring of magic plus Lohk can use its effects with her Cane.
We’re a level away from non-Gear smiffing, but these are rare enough to take note even if they’d be 15-20 gold. The Imperial Research Facility is supposed to have magic items, magic creatures, and guard patrols; it’s also an alternative to the Guard Outpost where the goal was to loot.
Did we get any indication that accessory rings abilities depend on the accessory slot they came from? I was under the impression it was only the class they came from (shield, armor, weapon or accessory).
IIRC,a possible upgrade for Macadamia mentioned that you could smith/smiff/create rings out of accessories.Likely after the Outpost.

There is no confirmation that different types of accessory would make different rings. We won’t know until we take the level up ability and ask.
I’m pretty sure it isn’t always tied to item category, because Magic Essence can only make +1-2 rings from wands and +2-3 need staves. Unless those are different rings which are missing gold and copper variants, a silver magic ring should be the same if made with a wand or a staff.
The wording looks pretty similar for calling out categories, if they were all “accessory” rings then I don’t see the point of clarifying how the accessory is worn:
Gear Essence: Can smif rings from undamaged weapons, armour, or shields. Bonus of ring cannot exceed base bonus of base item.
Accessory Essence: Can smif rings with benefits drawn from accessories worn on the head, hands, and legs. Bonus of ring is limited by cost of accessory. Minimum 20 gold value required for +2, 40 gold value for +3.
Evidence against: I can’t come up with enough simple +1-3 bonus effects to fill out all the types of rings that I think we can make. Past +Enc and +Mov, I need to make things more complicated and less likely to be real.
Boosting max HP might work with a multiplier to be better than boosting Def (outside of unblockable damage), and the Magic Tome has established that “spell abilities” are a category that can get extra uses (presumably tied to the ring, no trading the ring to have two casters get separate extra spells in the same dungeon). Accuracy would also be a neat situational stat boost which mirrors the dodge ring, Toaster confirms we can cancel enemy dodge chance.
Quite frankly, +ENC seems too powerful relative to +ATK or similar.
I do agree the wording could suggest that they’re 3 different stats. It could be more boring than you’re expecting, though. Possible alternate interpretation: head = equivalent to using armor, hands = equivalent to using weapons, legs = equivalent to using shield (or some other rotation). That would still be in line with the power level of other feats (since it expands the options for things we can use). It would also explain why there’s 3 categories for each.
I’d be pretty disappointed if a new Essence ability could only make the same rings we could already make. High tier accessories are also way rarer than any weapon, armour, or shield has been.
+Enc is a really good stat, but I don’t think it’s strictly better than directly boosting a combat stat – a +Atk ring is on top of whatever the weapon provides and there’s not many ways to add more raw offensive power with equipment. There’s many more ways to spend inventory space on Def, but then that’s dedicating extra equipment instead of adding a flat Def bonus, and someone like Kamau could run out of useful equipment before running out of space. The added flexibility seems in line with locking this bonus type behind a level up and rare materials.
Based on Ricki’s abilities, +2 Enc is equivalent to a conditional +1 Atk or Def as far as level up rewards go. Which I think makes sense. More encumbrance just lets us wield better weapons and wear better armor (and carry more loot!) Wouldnt be surprised if Arm rings were +1/2/3 Enc, and I could even see +2/4/6. I predict Head Rings give Ranged Damage, Leg Rings give Mov, and Magic Rings give Magic Damage.
Magic rings giving a bonus to magic wouldn’t surprise me. The rest would.
But we’ll eventually see, probably.
Ranged damage is a good one, that works nicely. Of course, we still haven’t tried smiffing a ranged weapon…
There isn’t a great definition for “magic damage”, wands use the same “X damage at range” wording that other ranged weapons use, and spells like Ray of Frost call out a ranged attack. (Death Touch just says “damage”, for melee.) Lohk has the level up Magic Barrier ability which does call out magic attacks, so maybe.
Magic Essence is a separate level up ability and uses the most expensive and rare components, so there’s a lot of pressure for magic rings to be good.
I’m guessing LSN just wrote it that way to help clarify the meaning of “accessories.” I wouldn’t read any more into it than that. Seems more likely that the ring property is derived from the accessory property rather than the accessory type.
The wording “with benefits drawn from accessories” does make it more possible in my mind that there could be a separate accessory ring per accessory, granting the ability in a ring slot. It’s the “Bonus of ring” part that makes me think that all rings have some simple +1-3 bonus involved, and it seems odd to not have some improvement tied to the copper/silver/gold base ring. To be fair, a bunch of accessories (Helmet, Heavy Gauntlets, Heavy Greaves) just give a basic +Def.
On double checking, every Accessory we’ve seen is worn on the head, hands, or legs. The Monk Robes are based off a Monk Belt from a previous game, so maybe we won’t see any belts or necklaces/capes. The grouping might be to cut down on how many colors of stat boosts are put on the character sheet.
LSN confirmed at some point on discord that there wouldn’t be belts/capes etc. One of those items did appear on how to play in the past, but they’re not going to appear in this game.
This seems the least likely option imo. Accessory Rings have a +1, 2 or 3 based on the value of the accessory. What does a +1 “Ignores some ground-based hazards.” mean in the case of Boots, or +1 “30% chance for +2 Atk” for Greater Crit Gauntlets? More than likely Accessories add to some actual stat of ours, and those stats are different from Gear Essence, since Weapons/Armors/Shields are infinitely more available then Accessories.
