Cordy finished a dungeon! They can gain one new ability from this list:
Bud: If not accompanied by another pet, start the dungeon with a Little Mushroom.
Hazard Spores: If HP is reduced by an attack, releases spores that deal 1 unblockable area poison damage to enemies. If one or more organic creatures are killed by this damage, a new Little Mushroom is created.
Loyal Minions: When attacked lethally can make a pet the target of the attack instead. Smaller Mushrooms will be chosen first.
Mushroom Master III: Can have 4 additional pets, but can only have Mushrooms as pets.
Regrowth: If killed, is replaced by a Little Mushroom.
Rot: Can bypass poison immunity.
Spore Bomb: Can sacrifice an owned or nearby Mushroom pet to make a ranged area attack that deals poison damage equal to the pet’s remaining HP.
Spore Touch II: Can sacrifice 1 HP when attacking to deal +1-3 poison damage.
Mushroom Master III:
Extra Pet means his max increases by +1 Def and +1 Attack. Will still take time to get him up to full power though.
And besides +1/+1, it means +1 labor if we end the dungeon with him full.
Didn’t someone in the previous page say that getting extra labour isn’t needed at this point?
I think you’re thinking of when we said it’s not worth spending money on renovations that give a discount on future renovations.
Minor but important correction: Labor isn’t worth /buying/ at this point. At this point we will most likely not get the initial investment back, much less any interest, on labor that costs 10gp/labor point. However, Cordy’s pets cost nothing except the opportunity cost of bringing another character. If we are already bringing Cordy for reasons unrelated to labor, it’s worth getting the free labor. If we’re not, the ~8 labor he brings (assuming we don’t enter with any other pets, and we get Mushroom Master III, and we exit with all mushroom slots full) probably isn’t worth the cost of missing out on bond points.
Loyal Minions.
I don’t like using Cordy when there is still so much bond to get with the other characters, but if I must, I’ll do it with the personal objetive of replacing/absorbing/consuming/killing 500 mushrooms until the end of Dungeon Eyes. This level up speeds that, and it is also useful.
Spore Bomb speeds it up more, most likely
Uh,nothing in the text suggests the abilities will combo in that way.Sure, minishrooms can kill to create more of themselves, but Sporebomb is specifically a ranged attack & won’t trigger Loyal Minions in melee range.
I think you may have misunderstood my post. Darus suggested that he wanted to speed up the destruction and replacement of as many mushies as possible, presumably because it would be funny. His suggested method for that was Loyal Minions, which might slightly increase the death rate of the Shroomies due to them taking death hits for Cordy.
With Spore Bomb we can speed their tiny deaths considerably more by just chucking them at enemies. Also even more funny. My post had nothing to do with a synergy/combo.
Ah,okay,I see.
Rot (or our current RotFangHood) + SporeBomb makes an interesting combo. Minishrooms are easy to get, have 2HP. This makes 2atk ranged AoE. But it’s poison-based attack, so it should be affected by boosts i.e. DragonRobes (poison attacks get +1dmg). Also, it’s an attack, so things like VenomGlands could work (+x dmg, varies by source species).
Venom Glands specify being applied to weapons and also need the Poison Use ability. The Poison Dragon Robes would work, but they are counted as armour and Cordy can’t use armour.
Unlike Death Spores though, I read this as Cordy dealing AoE poison, with no “one or more” restriction. Spore Bomb on a crowd of 5 rats should produce 5 mushrooms. Hard to really exploit this with 2 damage, but it’s there.
Spore Bomb
Access to Area attacks is rare and this is a pretty strong one (esp. if we bring larger mushrooms).
I feel like another +1 ability isn’t worth it at this point
Likewise,he already has a good amount of minions,& Sporebomb/Hazard Spores will let him be a better fighter in the future.
Hum,for some reaaon THIS reply to Shaylin is being treated as a different account to the one I’m using right now.
Yes! He could blow up swarms!
Weak swarms, I guess. A little mushroom could take out rats or bats, but we haven’t been encountering those so much lately. In this last dungeon we would’ve needed a medium mushroom to kill the swarmfish (except they’re immune to poison), or a big mushroom to kill the plague rats (which are probably immune to poison too). Probably more accurate to say he could soften up swarms.
Spore Bomb is definitely the coolest option, and possibly the most exploitable. However don’t ding the +1’s. They get more worthwhile the more he gets – as he gradually grows into a character with enough defense/attack to be used in combat alone, and enough minions that he can have them all attack and only lose 1-2 of them to enemy revenge attacks for massive burst damage.
We’ll need some kind of ranged attack option eventually.Especially if we don’t bring Coccyx next time.
Hazard Spores, because he’ll need it if he takes as much damage as he did in the eell.
Not all that much of his damage was from attacks. Also it wouldn’t do much against attacks from things immune to poison (like undead) or things with an decent health pool (most things).
Regrowth. Cordy’s modeling agent has said that he’s been turned down for gigs for being too old.
HEY!He’s still big,it’s just the screens that have gotten smaller.
