Dungeon 1 Turn 34
————
Kamau once again blocks the group of three rats so Ricki can pass by to the next room. Kamau is stuck in this room until the end of the turn due to engaging in combat.
Ricki pushes the desk over towards the ladder leading down, preparing to use it in another fire-based assault. In the desk’s current position it also covers the mouse traps, allowing anyone to pass by them safely.
The planned speeches to convince Kamau to leave the jail become increasingly numerous and complex in Ricki’s mind.
I think a speech about helping the other injustices of this world might work. He seemed sympathetic to Ricki’s plight. Might be willing to help others that need it. Best I’ve got considering the lack of info on what happened to him.
Ricki: Use the notes about the traitor + the guards’ ransom plan for you to show that the guards don’t care about your well-being as much as being greedy, and try to convince him that after you escape, the guards may go after whoever offered to post bail for you, and if it’s the one person who cares about you, then you don’t want them to get hurt. Ask him to come with you until at least you’re sure they’re safe.
Don’t appeal to his own well-being, since he doesn’t seem to care much for himself. Instead, appeal to his sense of duty/protection in helping a weak hungry goblin making sure nobody else pays for her mistakes.
I think his motivations are guilt based. Best bet is to make a speech appealing to that. We have to talk to him about committing to death is a cop-out. That the right and honorable thing is to continue living so that one day, he could overcome that guilt. Dont run. Face it head on.
Kamau: go one room to the left, lowest level, avoiding all traps. Engage and fight rats (trying to kill them as quickly as possible).
Ricki: push down the table and the (not-plot relevant papers) to the lowest level (avoid hitting Kamau) and distract some of the rats with these items (set them on fire, if necessary) while staying out of range for them to attack in order to try and have Kamau take as little damage as possible from their bites.
I’m not sure why LSN hasn’t used any of our “speeches” yet, whether or not it was because of game mechanics (e.g. them ending up in different rooms at the end of the turn), or because we haven’t found the right “content” for the speech yet and/or didn’t agree on one single strategy. My best bet atm would be to have Ricki ask him to -please- keep helping her, because she’s in bad shape and who knows what dangers await her in the sewers. Plain and simple. (And it worked before…)
Use the (unknown) motivation for Kamau’s crime. Tell him you don’t know why he betrayed the guards, but that you believe there was something important that made him go to such lengths. Tell him you know he’s a good person because he saved you from injustice, so whatever made him betray the guards must be important. Tell him he was achieving nothing by siting around feeling guilty in his cell, and if he wants to make reparations for his crime, he can’t do it from a jail cell. If that doesn’t work, show him the papers and say he can’t make up for anything if he’s dead.
(Ignore this comment, I hadn’t worked out how to edit a post)
Can the rats be lured or chased to the ladder and a ball or that table or a sword dropped on them?
