Dungeon 1 Turn 23
————
Ricki carefully climbs the ladder and searches the papers on the table. It seems the guards above can’t hear her as long as she doesn’t make a lot of noise, and the dogs can’t see her as long as she stays on the left side of the ladder. From here she can tell the sign nearby says “Kennels”.
These papers appear to be notices the guards write to one another. Most of them are completely irrelevant, but Ricki finds one that interests her:
“Don’t mess with the food bucket until it’s feeding time. When all the dogs start barking at once, the sergeant can hear it from all the way upstairs.”
So if she touches that bucket and the dogs DON’T get fed shortly after, they start barking? Good to know!
Ricki: go down the ladder (MOVEMENT)
and very carefully peak through the hole with the ladder at the guard who seems to be idle (his sword is in the corner) from the floor above. If she can determine that he is not paying attention (e.g. she can hear him snoring), try to sneak closer and read the papers on that table there.
If there is no way to notice whether or not the guard is attentive, try to estimate if he might be unable to see, if the torch on his level was doused. (Goblins usually have the skill to see clearly as day even in near absolute darkness. Humans usually don’t. Also, his vision is probably already handicapped by the helmet he wears, the slits are not super wide.)
I am not sure that the hilt alone will be enough to get the “traitor” to help her. Also, we still need to be able to get him out of the cell, even if we could convince him and for that we’d need at least either the door keys OR the shackle keys, because we only get ONE use out of the thieves tool kit. So I’m trying to find out more about him and this is the last place we could look. Besides, there are more keys next to the guard, so if we could somehow acquire them, we could find out if they are for cell block A.
The traitor needs 2 locks unlocked to be free. We need the keys from downstairs, but we can only get them if the guard isn’t awake. If the guard isn’t awake I suggest Ricki gets the sword next to him. That way she can quietly nudge the keys onto the blade (she’s not tall enough to reach them alone; table is out of the question). Once we have the keys to either the cell doors or the ball and chain, THEN we go try to convince the traitor to join. No point in doing so now if we can’t even get him free.
Just go talk to the prisoner now! There’s not enough time to explore every nook and cranny. Make a friend and get out
Ok if there’s not enough time to make sure to have what we need to get the traitor free, why should we even bother to visit him to make friends? You defeat your own argument.
From the left side of the ladder: Can Ricki see into the bin below the kernel sign? (Otherwise she should be able to look inside when she is standing atop the desk.) Is that the food bucket? Is there food inside it? If yes: Why isn’t the mouse inside eating the food? Ricki could take the bucket, if she gives the food to the dogs (and maybe take some of the food for herself?). But currently I do not have any idea about what to do with the then empty bucket.
The dogs will likely bark at Ricki just because she’s a stranger. Also if the rat is by the bucket and has already eaten the food, that would be very bad, as there would be no food and an alert to the dogs.
If we manage to free the traitor and convince them to join us, we then could try hauling 2 balls (Ricki and Traitor 1 each) to the bottom middle room, lure that one currently unarmed solo guard to the ladder and drop both balls on him.
LOL!
What Gathers said.
