Dungeon 1 Turn 14
————
“Hello.”
“My name’s Ricki! I’m trying to break out of here, do you want to come with?”
“…”
“The guards took my lockpicks, but if I can find them I can get this cell open. Or maybe I can find the keys? And then I can use the picks to get that ball and chain off you!”
“…”
“…Are you okay? Can you talk?”
“I’m where I belong.”
“What? That can’t be right. Nobody belongs in a place like this.”
“Some of us do. Please go, before one of the guards finds you.”
Huh. It seems this man isn’t interested in talking, let alone getting out of his cell. But Ricki could really use his help. She can hardly even reach half the stuff in this dungeon!
Maybe if she found out more about him, Ricki could think of a way to change his mind.
Leave for now. Maybe we’ll find something that can help us convince him while we get our keys/picks. At the very least, we can spend time convincing him AFTER we have the cage open, and we’re both in a position to benefit.
This is cell 3b, so this is the “TRAITOR”
Here are the possible next steps I can think of
Go fight the dire rat and try to open the chests, hope they’re unlocked
one holds our stuff (lockpicks + fruit, to heal back some hp after the fight)
one holds something else, maybe the traitor’s stuff
I think this one is the play here
Agreed that of the three options you outline, this is the best
Maybe first get the second torch next to the ladder (opposite of the keys), if Ricki can fight two-handed, and then burn that rat.
Get the jump on the solo guard near Cell Block B
he’s not holding his spear so we might get a free attack in, and then that gives us a key and some information from the papers
Climb the ladder to the floor with 3 dogs and read the paper
pretty risky, dogs will probably bark
Remind him that whatever he did, there’s no way to make amends for it by sitting in a cell. Self-punishment is self-indulgence and will do nothing to fix what is wrong. If he truly has regrets, the only way forward is to do his best to amend them, whatever that may mean.
We already know the other guards consider him a traitor. That means he might have inside information that could be extremely useful – and we might not even need to unlock the door to get it from him. Since we’re already here, and he’s far away from everywhere else we want to go, coming back for him later wouldn’t be very efficient. We should stay and try to talk to him a little more. And hopefully he won’t start screaming like the crazy person he possibly is 😐
Also, we should check out the floor of cell 2b as soon as possible. There was a kobold in there; maybe they tunneled out?
Is there still any cheese left in the last section? Maybe we could run over and get some of the cheese for him. Everyone like cheese.
Wasn’t there a note that everyone except mice, rats and goblins get very ill from the not-so-fresh cheese?
“Did you do something bad? You don’t seem bad.”
Or something maybe?
Try to see if it’s something he can fix by getting out of here.
The dog and the shattered ball evaporated?! While the two people in the upper cell didn’t? Hm.
