See mac wasnt a TRUE believer until now! XD
Holy mother, that Dragon soul ability… o.o
It’s very good, but it does make me worry that it means we won’t max out Coccyx now. We have a pretty good chance of doing that if we commit to taking him to the remaining non-Bond dungeons that we have left, but knocking out all these Bond dungeons in a row might make people want to skip that in favor of our other characters.
Personally I think it’s a shame that we haven’t used him once, and we’ve actually got loads of good archery related items to give him now so building him up feels like it could be worthwhile even this late into the game- plus it’d give us an extra Bond dungeon to do.
Yeah, we really played suboptimally by taking Ama to early dungeons. We should have saved him for last, if at all.
If we did that, Lara wouldn’t be with us anymore. Remember that she got revived by him.
Ooor we would have played a little more cautiously, rather than justifying bad decisions as ‘it’s okay, worst case scenario we can revive’. Also everyone would have been much stronger and had less trouble in dungeons – we would have easily had Mac’s bond dungeon, as well as Kamau’s, by that point.
idk I like upfront stats better. it would take like 12 dungeons to reach Lara’s current stats
The Pea Soldier pet is pretty busted; it’s basically an extra character in terms of stats and ability to equip items, if not abilities. I wonder if it can use a PET ITEM as well, or if that would count against its inventory space…?
imagine if we could give it rings 0_0
So everyone read the Battle Histories, but only four party members read the Monster Manuals. The same four played at the Gaming Table, and one of them also read the Magic Tome.
What’s the logic here? From the descriptions of those upgrades, I would’ve expected everyone who stayed home to benefit from all of them – except for the Magic Tome, since not everyone’s a spellcaster.
Kamau, Botanya, Ix, and Cordy, together with Ricki, were together in dungeon 16. So, everybody else stayed home then and already became gamers and studied enemies. “The Battle Histories have been built. Characters who sit a dungeon out gain one stronger attack.” only happened after Dungeon 16: https://dungeoneyes.com/dungeon-16-report/ thus everybody at home profited for the first time. Kamau, Ix, and Cordy do not have spell abilities, thus Botanya was the only one from that team to be able to study magic.
Ah, I see. Thanks!
I’m going to guess Ring Synergy is the Macadamia Bond ability added to Ricki’s level up list. Maybe Scamper or a proficiency.
where did you notice ‘Ring Synergy’?
From Macadamia’s existing level up list, last seen at the Dragon Factory but available from the start, much like Poison Use (and Scamper).
That might still be a little close to actual ringsmif magic to be thematically learned, compared to more of a skill.
I went back and checked the report of Laras Bond dungeon and she got a new title/description back then, so I was kind of hoping that Macadamia would get a new description, too, but it doesn’t look like it. It still says “Unlicensed Ringsmif” on that page, even though other updates (like the true believer) have been made.
I dread the end of Botanias Bond dungeon and that she will be gone afterwards, so she won’t get a new title, either. But then again she will have fulfilled her destiny/purpose, so I guess that’s something positive?
Part of me wants to make a “it’s going to be a shame, she seemed nice” joke, but a bigger part of me is just (preemtively) sad.
Or maybe LSN is going to pull something that will make it so she is transformed, but still around in some way or form, and has been trolling us (again!) with the whole “botania is going to expire soon” idea. Here’s hoping (even though I don’t like getting trolled)..
Corrected.
oooOOOoooh, he’s a “Unfettered Ringsmif” now. Thanks LSN. 😀
Dungeon 17 wrap up stream notes:
– Goal: Both need to read coloured books in correct order (green blue red) to be able to unlock door. Totally possible to lock yourself out. Some mercy, there were spares, but there is a worst order which is unwinnable
– Decayed items were all +3 ring smiffing fodder
– Turn 10 has the librarian, a Grimoirm with a special item. Doubles effect of eating items, like the ones left by the door.
– Trapped chest has 12 crossbow bolts and a double crossbow, which is nice in a dungeon full of flying weapons
– Enclosed chest had Staff of Enchantment, 5 charges, once per dungeon permanently apply an enchantment scroll without spending HP
– Brought some items which were never used, but they’re generally good, all makes sense.
– How to reach higher shelf items? “Not my problem.” (Max Dig could reach some, dig through floor.) Up to players to have neat abilities and ideas (bottled cloud)
– Would diving helmet have helped with bad air? If we’d brought it, sure
– Need Well Read 1 to kill green books
– Decaying items weren’t for new rings, just every possible category. Note that accessories make different rings by where they’re worn, head/hands/feet
– Scroll binding glue is absolutely capped at +2
– True Believer is yes/no, not per item (same as others). Get same bonus for 1 or more dragon items.
– Can pea soldier use ranged weapons with ammunition? Yes, will clarify in text.
– Does pea soldier use owner’s move bonus for Swiftblade? No, actual pet doesn’t have move attribute.
– Would a pet item take up an inventory slot? No, pet items take a non-slot, each pet gets one.
– Were decayed boots reachable? Mac would need a boost, which Ricki could give.
– Was The Glorious One a limbless vertebrate? You never saw the whole skeleton at once…
– Could Mac die of end of turn HP loss if leaving on turn 18? No.
– If a patrol spawned turn 15 at the entrance, could that attack us at the door? Theoretically yes, but there wasn’t such a patrol.
– Was there a turn 20 patrol? No, just one. Max HP was the hard time cap.
– What if Mac died on the winning turn? If it was end of turn damage from time limit then safe, if it was combat then dead.
– Is there more gameplay after currently unlocked dungeons, or pure narrative? You are seeing all the regular dungeons, there are still some locked bond dungeons.
– Is Studied Battle wasted on a ranged attacker? Yes, melee only.
– Does Studied Magic and the catalog work like temp max HP, what happens when handing to someone else after casting? Yeah, use it first, but the first you use is the temp one. The recipient doesn’t get another use.
– If a magic user gets the catalog mid dungeon do they get a fresh use? No.
– Pea soldier: Can we hire a new one if it dies? Mild spoiler, but yes. Do they “see” in the dark? No, they’re a plant, they require light. Trading: If you offer a stronger weapon (longsword to burning longsword), it will take the upgrade. It will not take side grades, call it sentimental value. Situational bonuses don’t count, but they count the sum of attack and defense. It accounts for its abilities when making trade (valuing helmet including its bonus). The total bonus value is measured for the trade, can trade away one good item for more items with overall bigger bonus (though not too many, can only carry 3).
– Can we choose Deadly when enchanting with enchanting hammer? Yes, hammer can use any element and deadly is an element.
– Permanent enchantment with glue is 10hp.
– Permanently enchanted item using glue to add temporary enchant would go back to base enchant at end of dungeon.
– Did we lose 50/50 on turn 9 book targeting? Yeah coin toss, both same threat level from Well Read (if remembering correctly).
– Could bombs damage books, like if the one lighting the fuse is Well Read? Books are immune to traps because traps can’t read, but a character could use a trap-like item to damage a book they can read.
– Flying books count as sorted to their proper place? Yeah, if somehow pulled far enough away then a Grimoirm might’ve gone after it. Thought about having newly spawned books patrol but that was too much of a pain.
– Worms can read and are smart, did we kill people? Just because they can read doesn’t mean they’re smart.
– Was there a way to befriend them? No, you could keep feeding them at best.
– Since dragons come from kobolds, why were Dragon Factory kobolds trying to enchant monsters? The lore was lost, all they knew was that dungeon magic and element magic were involved. They were misguided extremists.
– Is there some tell if something is the actual win condition or an interim objective? Sometimes you don’t know and just have to hurry. The point of the game is to hurry.
– Could Lohk or Amad have read the blue books from being old/well read enough? Who knows, they couldn’t be here.
– Why did the oldest part of the story (green book) have the simplest language, shouldn’t it be the other way around? Gameplay mechanics – the books were plain language and it’s the dungeon that turned them into a puzzle, dungeons are a pain
– When moving down to entrance could staying on the top rung skip the trap rung? Nah, need to explicitly do something like jump to avoid the trap
– If Mac needed to cross a trap before his action and Ricki had an action in another room, could she point it out first? Generally no, maybe if it makes sense.
– Short wrap up for short dungeon, rest of stream shows off art.
– Intermission 17 planned for this week, haven’t had time to update archives and maps so may do that first.
There’s a cool thing on the maps page that I missed before: When you mouse over the links, they turn yellow – except on the bond dungeons, where they turn red for Lara and brown for Mac. Nice touch.
Plants vs zombies yaaaaaay!!!!!
Can we get cernal corn too
For our plants vs zombies team
(Botanya, pea soldier)
Can he get a slightly different appearance, too?
By the way, items Paws sells that we don’t have identified:
– Buckler (we have damaged and spiked variants)
– Cheap Beer
– Cheap Wine
– Crossbow, Light
– Daggers: Parrying, Razor, Spring, Venom
– Maul (we’ve only seen Imperial)
– Moonshine
– Potions: Fire Resistance, Ice Resistance, Lightning Resistance
– Wands: Kindle (35), Ray of Frost (30), Static Bolt (40), Sunspot (30)
I checked this list because Sue gains Def for identified weapons, armour, and shields. She’s currently at 77 and gets bonuses per 20, so while this list can tip her over to +4, that may be effectively max since with these 6 we’d need another 17. Not impossible, every unique variant adds to that list and we’re missing rusty/golden variants for a bunch of the base types. Even without this, the daggers are cheap and I’m curious what they do.
Now that I have the list, I’m noticing the wands. The first two wands give us the power to shift Ix on demand (for reference, Fireball costs 45 and Venomous Sting costs 30, so I’m fairly confident Kindle is 2 fire damage at range, slightly more expensive since fire is a useful damage type). We have strong confirmation from Lohk and crowstone that Ray of Frost is 2 ice damage at range, and crowstone confirmation that Static Bolt deals 2 lightning damage at range in an area, which might not even be charge limited given the modest amount (but I’m suspecting 3 charges like the wand of Death Touch). I’m also assuming Sunspot is the tier 1 Holy wand for 2 ranged holy damage which lights up the room like the Dawn Mitre.
We have very few area damage options, and being able to pop a full flock of bats (aside from the inevitable hidden lightning bat) in one action is tempting even if the damage is low.
We do have some gold and some party members do have inventory space, thus we could even buy some of the items without intention to immediately use them. For example: If we would do Botania’s dungeon next, we could nevertheless buy a “Daggers:Razor” and put it into the inventory of anyone except Botania and Ricki. Then we would know the stats of that dagger before we enter a dungeon where we might use it. OK, or just sell it next time if it is useless, which would just lose us some gold because we do not get back its original cost.
Pretty much. For regular weapons which cost 7, that’s 4 gold to identify a weapon which might be on an enemy.
The Safe gives us interest, so there’s no need to burn all money when later Dungeons will likely unlock new renovations to house the people we save (or “save”). Still, might as well get some use. Consumables have the nice property of freeing up their inventory slot.
I double checked and the Ring of Intuition only gives accuracy to ranged attacks, so while that would offset the miss chance from alcohol, it also wouldn’t work with ATK bonuses, plus Coccyx isn’t a living creature to be affected by alcohol.
