Dungeon 16 Turn 17
————

Botanya sees a second pea soldier fall to one of the upper clouds of the room she’s in. She decides she ought to go see what everyone else is up to.

Ix watches the pea plummet while Kamau continues to absorb attacks. Ricki defeats one of the peas with a single attack (though it keeps moving), while Princess continues to chew on another. Botanya considers pushing one off the cloud since everyone else is trying it, but that definitely counts as attacking and she has a whole ability that says she can’t do that. She sighs and just watches instead.

Ok, so the lower peas did not die from the fall, and probably still count as part of the pod so none will die. Our only option is send ix down to finish them off (which may take 2 turns each depending on the fall dmg) or we can just throw the remaining 3 down and ignore…
Of if the peas are not in the pod anymore then we just need to kill the last two…
I will point out that if there is a way to bait the carrot, it will probably charge through the mass of peas.
Plan: ignore the peas for now.
Idea here is set us up so we can divide and conquer next turn so no char wasting their turn. Ix and ricki take out carrot so next turn ix and Kamau can finish off peas while botania and ricki deal with cage.
Kamau: interpose peas.
Ricki: go up and use spider gland and attack carrot. Switch to Midas gloves. (15 -16 dmg)
Ix: go up and attack carrot in melee with shocktail (32-33 dmg)
Shroom: attack carrot (34-35)
Toaster: attack carrot (35-36dmg. 35 to ohk)
Botania: wait for carrot to die then scoop up gold. Go down and get rope after.
Princess: attack the same pea again, killing it.
Kamau is interposing so pets dont get attacked by peas. Leaves us with 1 pea which Kamau and ix can deal with next turn
just to be clear, “leaves us with 1 pea” – this is counting the peas in the room, not including those that were defenestrated, right? so there is a slim chance that next turn we “defeat the last pea in the room” but they still stand and fight, if it turns out that those defenestrated still count as in-the-pod, despite being one room away?
It leaves us with one living pea, but since we don’t know if they are still in a pod we won’t know when they will go down sadly
I was skeptical of the yeeting plan before, but Kat pointed out something I’d missed: the pea soldier description says they form a pod with whatever peas are “nearby.” So I’m hopeful now that by throwing those other two peas off the edge, we’ve removed them from the pod. We’ll soon find out either way.
At the very least we learn more about the pod ability and throwing rules which could be useful later
That’s true. So far we’ve been told that ‘nearby’ definitely means ‘same room’, and for some purposes might mean ‘not separated by walls’ (i.e. touching, activating, etc) but for some other purposes walls might be ok (listening, sensing, etc). I totally expect those fallen peas to not count as ‘nearby’, but we’ve never tried this, and sometimes dungeon magic is not intuitive 😉
Hear me out. Or read me out I guess.
We can yeet peas. Can we drag them? Can we have Ix grab a pea, climb the ladder, alert the carrot, drop the pea in front of the carrot and climb down the ladder? Would an alerted crazied carrot charge the pea?
I’m wondering as well. Considering “big people” can lift small/smallish characters, a “pea” is definitely small/smallish. Grab/Lift could totally be a thing, and since it’s just grab, it doesn’t prevent the victim to fight back and struggle (‘struggle’ as a normal attack against the holder). Character that grabs would certainly spend an action and would be unable to attack/etc, and would need to spend that action every future turn to keep holding. These rough basic mechanics fit what we already had in the game and this could totally work.
Not sure about the carrot interaction though. As soon as we take a pea up there, as soon as we drop/release the pea there, the pea is free to simply run away back down and join back the fight.
