Dungeon 14 Turn 5
————
Ricki and Kamau combine their power into a devastating nicotine-fueled combination maneuver which easily defeats the salavamander. The midas gloves which Ricki wields allow her to transmute 22 gold coins out of this accomplishment. Kamau intends to claim a second magma shield from the beast’s body, however, the collar it wears renders it far too endearing to slaughter, so he takes the collar itself instead, dropping his tyrant horn to make room.
The dragon rider drops his longsword, which the heroes opt to leave where it falls, as well as a heavy shield and his pair of silver rings. Botanya and Macadamia pick these up. Botanya also wrests open one of the nearby chests, finding two potions of greater healing, which she lacks the means to carry. Macadamia uses his incredible ringsmifing ability to forge the heavy shield he already carried with his final gold ring, crafting a mighty gold ring of evasion.

DOMESTICOLLAR
Pet Item
When worn, gives a pet -2 Atk. If the pet finishes a dungeon while wearing the collar, it gains the Well-Trained ability, gaining +1 Atk and Def, and the collar disappears. Renders enemy creatures too cute to butcher for loot drops.
Weight 1, Cost 20
PET MASTER PRO TIP: Each PET can equip just one PET ITEM at a time! Their PET TRAINER can use their action to apply it, and it CANNOT BE REMOVED until the dungeon ends!
I guess we’re trying to evolve 45 to new Cordy, I think we should put the collar on it. I assume the bonus is permanent since it gives it an ability, and I guess we won’t lose the ability when it’s evolving. This will mean we end up with Well-Trained Cordy 😀Since LSN said it won’t transfer – there’s no point in doing that.
I love it. I am 100% on board.
Bonus, Kamau is the one who picked the collar and he is also current PET TRAINER for 45. We won’t even need to spend time on moving inventory around.
My only thought is if he gets the bonus then evolves into Cordy he isn’t a “pet” any more and therefore doesn’t get the bonus. Having said that, that’s a great idea and I love it.
LSN has confirmed on discord that this will not work on fully grown Cordy.
I mean, I know that we can’t put a pet-collar on fully trained Cordy, but will the bonus gained initially by small-mushie-45 stay when large-mushie-45 evolves into Cordy?
Took a peek in discord and the question was exactly that 🙁
*Voice of the Cheated*
“This is BULLSHIT!”
Well played, lsn.
Does that mean we could get a pet through a dungeon, apply the collar on the last turn and then end up with a Well-Trained pet?
Yep. Just like we can ignore the pet trainer asking what reward we want for 90% of the dungeon, grab the egg he’s offering us at the last minute, then have it hatch as we finish
The only disadvantage to waiting until the end is that it takes an inventory slot.
We should put the collar on our Mule; not only would it get +1 DEF, it would also get an ATK stat enabling it to make regular attacks (there’s no rule preventing Mules from making attacks; they just have no 0 ATK so there’s no point outside of using Kick for a +3). Since we’re pretty much always going to be bringing our Mule with us that feels like the ideal use for the collar, being a permanent upgrade for a pet we’ll almost always be using.
It might be best to wait until after we use our Kick for THIS dungeon though, since the benefits of the collar only kick in after the dungeon is over.
If we decide to collar Daisy or Mushroom 45 we should do the same thing, and only put the collar on at the last minute before bouncing from the dungeon.
If we get more collars, and probably we will from other mounts, I think that’s a good idea to spend one on Daisy so she gets more DEF and has better chances against traps and AoE.
But mule? Better to spend it on the chick for fun or the drone (but thinking about it.. I think it wouldn’t boost her beam-attack to 2atk since beam-attack says 1dmg not 1atk.. sad :/ ).
Re:Mule – We’ve already lost a mule once, and while the soup was happily approved by Lohk and the team, we’ve also seen how much inventory trouble we got into when the mule died.
Normally, pets are out of combat. But if pet attacks, it is open to receive damage, at the discretion of what-the-enemy-chooses, since we can’t stop the enemy from picking targets at will. And with typical pet’s DEF+HP, that means dead pet. Unless we specifically have Kamau and have him Interpose and sink it all in.
Dead pet means losing the bonus from the collar as well. Dead mule is extra awful due to inventory/enc loss, plus some gold needed to spent on buying a new mule.
What benefits? Mule’s “kick” is “once per dungeon” and it would become 4atk instead of 3atk now. Non-kick mule’s attack would be 1atk after collar. Risking dead mule for 1atk bonus. That sounds absolutely crazy to leverage this option for regular attacks, and if we’re going into panic crisis mode and have to risk getting pet’s killed to defeat some boss, oh-kay. Yeah. Better dead mule than dead Kamau/Ricky/etc, but that’s not a first pick to use the first collar we found!
Re: use it now vs use it just before finishing – I’d use it ASAP.
Mushie 45 won’t attack, we don’t want to lose it(*) Next one, use ASAP on Daisy. She also attacks very rarely, we won’t notice. If we want to use it on the mule, yeah, at the end of dungeon would be fine, but let’s face it – we don’t attack with mule either. So why bother and waste ENC on carrying it? We don’t know in which room we will be ending the dungeon, so we will have to waste turns and enc slots to carry it at some point. I think it’s not worth optimizing for that minor rare boost from pet attack. Just use it at first occasion, whenever pet-owner has a unused/wasted action to spend.(*) Since LSN said it won’t transfer – there’s no point in spending the collar on 45. Imho, then start with Daisy, then spend next on Mule.
It’s also +1DEF, making her safer vs AoE
Put the collar on Sue. She seems like she’d be into it.
That is a very good idea. Well-Trained Sue. I just hope noone will sue us for training her well.
This is how we get bad fan fic that gets out of hand.
Do you want 50 Shades of Ricki? This is how we get 50 Shades of Ricki.
I really really want 50 Shades of Ricki
Plan: Item management
Kamau: Trade with Mac: Give Gold ring of Attack and collar to Mac. Drop steak in loot pile. Then move up ladder and walk over the traps even though Ricki told you about them..
Mac: Trade with Kamau: Give Kamau Heavy Shield and Gold ring of Dodge.
Ricki: point out the traps to the group. Open last chest.
Botania: Avoid Traps and move left. Lens Cobra from behind.
Idea is to engage Kobold miners next turn with Kamau.
This gets Kamau with 2 dodge rings and a shield so he can minimize the amount of damage he takes vs that group of kobold miners (15+ dmg! Yikes!). He is clearing some traps with his free movement so we wont need Ricki to move through here later. His movement should be stopped once he hits the pitfall so hes not actually leaving the room.
Ricki has inventory space so shes opening chest
Botania is securing our knowledge about any extra abilities Cobra may have.
@LSN. It seems Mac’s third gold ring has disappeared from his inventory. We had 3 and only smiffed twice now. The lens Botanya dropped at the entrance also disappeared…
Feeding was asked last stream and LSN said it takes an action from both people so it wont work
https://dungeoneyes.com/dungeon-13-report/#comment-17054
But yeah, I think Mac should have another gold ring too
I figured…
updated plan to have botanya use lens on Cobra instead. We should be able to engage kobolds next turn.
Using the collar on Cordyfive now saves us the encumbrance slot. Are we really gonna risk the little guy just to add +1 to an attack?
I’m not really making a collar decision here but my preference is to put on golly first next turn. We might use Daisy to attack soon and we’re never going to risk shrooms. So Mule seems best choice
I think a new Cordy with +1 atk and +1 def is a better deal. But it is useful for Golly too.
We know there is more than one collar. Maybe we’ll find one for Daisy to equip right before leaving the dungeon too.
LSN has said it will not transfer to Cordy. Putting it on Cordyfive just makes him temporarily stronger until he becomes Cordy, then he loses the benefit
🙁
I only suggested putting the collar on 45, because I thought the bonus from collar would transfer to grown-up Cordy.
Since LSN said it won’t – there’s no point in doing that.
Plan: Inventory management but better optimized(I hope)
Ricki: Point traps to everyone else as they move left so they avoid them. Drop the used midas glove with the pile. Loot the last chest. After everyone else is in the left room, trigger the pitfall trap while avoiding the landmines. Try to rejoin with everyone on the left if you can, avoiding the landmines again.
Mac: Drop heavy shield in the pile. Move left to trade with Kamau on the miner loot pile, getting Kamau’s atk ring
Kamau: Drop steak and collar in the pile. Move left to trade with Mac and the miner loot pile, getting Mac’s dodge ring and a floor shield
Botania: Move left to lens the buffed scorpion from the left ladder.
This dungeon is super full of loot so we really need to clear up slots so leaving things we don’t need to use right now in the pile. We will be back for them later.
LSN said we can trade with floor pile and party at same time last stream so doing it here.
Kamau will have 14 def and 60% dodge after trade which is absurd and should be enough to interpose anything we want. I think spending another inventory slot for heavy shield instead is excessive when we are so short on slots.
The idea for the turn after is everyone and their pets dogpile the poison dragon rider while Kamau interpose.
We do not know if cobra also has an AOE chance like Sally or lightning dragon. We killed the last one super quick and this could screw us. Maybe lens cobra instead and we can just interpose gang up on scorpion without issue?
Lightning dragon is always AOE and cobra only hit Lara so not like that. I guess a low % AOE like sally is possible but I dont think it’s likely at all. We know that cobra hits like a truck, much harder than sally and has partial poison resistance bypass so I think it is a single-target DPS boss unlike sally.
And scorpion is not just to learn about scorpion but about also every monster with that red-pink buff we will face in the future when cobra will only be useful for 1 fight and never again. Seems super wasteful when we already have some info from fighting it before.
But AOE would be super sad even if unlikely. All our melee characters have high def but we’d lose the pets.
Ugh too hard to decide. I’ll make a copy of the plan to lens Cobra instead and pass the decision to voters lol
Same as my other plan but for people who think cobra has AOE
Botania: Move left to lens the cobra from the left ladder.
