Dungeon 14 Turn 1
————
Filled with the intrepid spirit of exploration, Ricki immediately delves deeper into the dungeon, in pursuit of—
Okay, she’s gone. Let’s get this done quick before she comes back.
Macadamia busies himself doing what he’s good at and crafts a fancy new upgraded tower shield out of two regular ones. He then drops the shield on the floor and heads to the right. Botanya summons up a flytrap pet, but stays where she is.
Kamau goes down the ladder and picks a fight with the kobolds there. He attacks the dragon tamer and fairly easily defeats him, but not before he pulls out a fancy horn and blows on it. The sound echoes through the dungeon, but this doesn’t seem to do anything, or at least nothing apparent. The other four kobolds attack. One of them crits, but two others miss, so Kamau takes no damage. He also cleaves through the miners, defeating one and injuring another.
Kamau can see that the defeated miner dropped a couple of rings, and the dragon tamer dropped that horn, but those items are being guarded by the remaining miners so that’s all the info he gets for now.
Suddenly finding herself unable to ignore the dwarven beauty any longer, Ricki engages her in conversation, possibly with romantic undertones.
“Hey, so, who are you? And what are you doing here?”
“My name’s Sue! I’m your BIGGEST fan!”
“…I have fans?”
“Of course!”
“I mean, a few!”
“Anyway, I decided I wasn’t satisfied just reading about your adventures, so I’m here to witness them first hand!”
“Like… you want to help?”
“No, I’m just going to watch.”
“And complain if you don’t do what I wanted.”
“What was that last part?”
“Don’t worry about it!”
“And you don’t have to worry about protecting me from any enemies, either. This is all out of character.”
“Out of…”
“Okay, whatever.”
“Just… just stop staring when I’m not looking. I can tell when you’re doing it.”
“No problem!”
The dwarven maiden resolved to contemplate her many, many fan art renditions of Ricki instead.
Ricki: Case the Fire Dragon Rider, then head left, up the ladder, head right, then right again to scout.
Kamau: Cleave through more Kobolds, starting with the one with the shield. Pick up the Horn if combat ends after.
Macadamia: Smiff your plate armour into one of your worn Gold Rings. Head left to Kamau, and loot any dropped Rings into your ring box.
Botanya: Drop the lens at the bottom of the first ladder then pick up and wield the tower shield. Go stand by Kamau and the Kobold Miners to debuff them.
Can we specify dropping the lens on the middle floor? Don’t want to have to brave the king patrol later when we want to pick it up
Hee. Hehehe.
♥️♥️ I love that chubby boy. He reminds me of Dodogama.
Ricki: go down to the fire frog and use Sue as a dwarven shield.
Sue is unpopular enough that this has net positive votes.
Three pressure plates and maybe a false floor between Ricki and the chest on the middle level of her room.
About the dwarven girl:
> Lmao, has she been narrating the story up to this point?
Ricky has DungeonEyes. At first I thought the girl here might be a seer, see the future, or something, but now I think she might have DungeonEars and might simply hear the DM and be taking notes for research. Because that’d be both silly and well, why not.
Or she’s a god-of-dungeons. She actually runs the whole business, because it’s entertaining, and because she needs material and ideas for her new RPG world book. She’s here, having created this dungeon, she stayed here and was helping the kobolds run this place, because their idea about dragons lizards and dinosaurs was JUST TOO AWESOME to ignore, and omg what a campaign will that be! If true, maybe we can get her attention and turn her focus to our near impossible epic quest to thwart the plans of the emperor that summons aliens from elemental plane! Even MOAR EPIC campaign options!
I don’t think she sees the future or hears the DM. Her name is Mary Sue*, and she writes her own fanfiction take on Ricki’s adventures.
*In case you’re not terminally online, Mary Sue is a derisive term for the sort of generic, overpowered author self-inserts you see in poorly written wish-fulfillment fanfictions. So the super smart girl who is the same age as Harry Potter and is actually a second chosen one, and she’s so beautiful and great and talented and smart that everyone either is jealous of her or in love with her and she has Harry and Draco fighting over her (with the whole thing written with the quality you’d expect from a preteen).
I won’t outright exclude her being some form of God, because that would fit with the whole Mary Sue thing, but I’d expect it to be a bit tongue-in-cheek if that’s the case.
Also I’m pretty sure she hasn’t been doing any of the narration before now. You can pretty easily see the stylistic difference when she is. It looks like bad fanfiction.
“Mary Sue”! I actually never met this trope, at least not pointed out and named! I checked Wiki, and heh, that sounds much more plausible, especially “if we are lucky, has the good grace to die at the end” 😀
Re: narration – yes, I noticeed that as well, that’s why I quickly dismissed DungeonEars idea, since, well, what she writes seems not similar. But yea, I think your idea is much more probable. Though god-of-dungeons would be fun, considering she already told us she’ll have requests.
Hmmm… I just noticed that we have a salavamander here, and it’s rider’s eyes are yellowish, while in previous room we’ve had a violet snake and its rider had violet-ish eyes. These riders are attuned to their mount’s main element. Of course, no idea what it means, but it seems important enough to depict that, and probably a “rider” here means more intelligent actions for the beasts, and more problems for us. At least they seem to be able to carry only one thing – one weapon, one shield, the other one probably reserved for controlling the beast.
Edit: whoa, four traps! And a trapdoor to the salavamander :S
Big hole in ceiling is … for the big guy to climb through when he gets back?
