Dungeon 10 Turn 8
————
Ricki shoves past the drider and opens the next chest. Inside she finds a wand of venomous sting. Lara could make good use of this… if she didn’t already know the spell. Maybe Lohk will want it.
The drider’s attack connects this time, but does no damage.
Lara cuts the drider down, despite taking 2 damage in the process. No matter what Ricki thinks, this is the right thing to do.

WAND OF VENOMOUS STING
Wand
Deals 2 poison damage at range.
Weight 1, Cost 30
That’s…. Actually a nice find. To sell at least
Time to end dungeon.
Ricki: move right, point out thing on floor that may be trap to Lara. If it is not a trap, pick it up. Drop torch if need be. If it is a trap, avoid it.
Lara: avoid the thing on archive floor. Go to archive and interact with book. Drop rope if you need space
Rope costs 7, venom sells for 6. I’m for getting Poison Use on level up.
The goal is to reach the archive, not to read the book. We’re here though, the details shouldn’t matter too much.
Why do I think we will need something from the altar… Or maybe the wrath will spawn from there
A more openly worded version of Claudious’ command, and also slightly more money-optimal.
Ricki: Move right, point out thing on floor that may be trap to Lara. If it is not a trap, pick it up. Drop the torch if you need space. If it is a trap, avoid it. If Lara picks it up, interact with the book instead.
Lara: Go to the archive, and get whatever you came to this dungeon for. Avoid the thing on archive floor, unless it’s what you’re here for. If you need space, drop the venom glands. If you need more space, you can drop the rope too.
Reasoning: We’re not really sure if Lara’s here for the book or whatever’s on the floor (or something else). This allows for either.
LSN isn’t a fan of conditional actions (though he doesn’t quite dislike them enough to stop being cagey and tell us what we can do). Try to evaluate your suggestions by cutting them off at the first “if”. I think it’s okay to point out our order of value for items to drop since he also doesn’t like inventory changes, but it’s very intentional that we need to spend actions to find out what we can do with a new thing, and that means we might be wasting time in a tightly time-constrained Dungeon (which is all of them). Or, in this case, betting on having the correct interpretation of our goal to accomplish it flawlessly on the last available turn before complications.
“Openly worded” isn’t a good thing. Fortunately this is the end of the dungeon so I don’t think it will much matter.
(Yes, I’ve picked on both posted actions. My point is we didn’t know the right answer.)
Imagine if that egg sac looking thing bursts open with a bunch of tiny spiders that can paralyze us…
