Intermission 9 Page 10

With the immediate tensions seemingly resolved, Ricki and her party continue on to the manor. Kamau mutters something about letting Amadeusz get so close before proving himself, but since he clearly already knows where everyone lives there doesn’t seem to be much point in obfuscation.

Lohk, who’s been waiting on the front steps every day because it’s a nice place to sit and definitely not because of constant gnawing worry, approaches Ricki and pulls her aside immediately.

“Ricki, I’ve told you to be more careful who you bring home!”

“I didn’t have much choice this time. He already knew where we live.”

“But anyway, he HAS been helping us up to this point. It only seems fair to give him a chance.”

“Bah. All it takes is trusting one human too many, and one day we’ll all wake up dead.”

“I don’t think being human has anything to do with it one way or another.”

“I mean, if anything I thought you were going to be mad about me bringing home an actual undead.”

“I’m not worried about that one.”

“Really?”

“Really. Watch.”

“Hey, skeleton!”

“Eh?”

“Do you need to eat?”

“No.”

“Do you poop?”

“No.”

“Do you have a lot of stuff you’re gonna leave lying around everywhere?”

“Just my bow.”

“Which never leaves my side.”

“As befits the greatest archer the world has ever known.”

“Sounds like a perfect house guest to me.”

“…Yeah, kind of.”
