Dungeon 9 Turn 23
————
Ricki and Lara ascend to intercept the advancing zombies, which they correctly guess are almost upon them. They each easily cut one of them down, but in the process contract the zombie plague, at least in its earliest stage. They’ll have to be careful going forward…
Botanya climbs as high as she can and then throws her rusty plate armour over the edge.
Kamau witnesses the armour smash into the indented ground, collapsing it into a hidden room below. The rusty armour is destroyed in the process.
Kamau then jumps down into the open pit. There’s a pile of rubble nearby that would easily allow him to climb back up. The only other thing he can see, even with the enhanced night vision his cowl provides, is a couple more dead kobolds.
Basilisk! ♥️
Reminder to those who don’t know about Harry Potter-style basilisks. (Google for them)
They have a Death Gaze (which likely translates as unblockable damage). Probably only not looking at it is safe. This would grant us a 50% miss chance. And we would still have to deal with poisoned fangs and, likely, its body. Just like Sally. This is a death-themed Sally, appropriate for kobolds in a tomb.
I hope LSN wouldn’t have its poison melt our equipment, like the original, but note the conspicuous lack of equipment on the dead kobolds.
Great idea! Thanks for the input!
Basilisks turn things to stone. I don’t see any stone statues of kobolds, so this isn’t a basilisk.
Nope. The harry potter brand turned things to stone if glanced at through a reflection. Direct gaze killed.
I think this is much more likely a poison enemy semi meta designed to get us prepped for the poison well. I don’t think it does death gaze, but I do think it has a poison AOE like the salamander. The kobolds were doing their dragon breeding thing and it backfired on them. So it likely filled the room with poison gas and killed the whole group.
If it’s like the salamander that’s a 30% chance of getting gas attacked. Up to us of that’s worth it for the maybe poison resistance armor or the egg shell.
On reflection, you’re probably correct. Still, not an enemy to aggro without lensing.
I’m admittedly semi tempted but I mostly agree. Hopefully whatever treasure we get here will make this dungeon and the poison well easier so my fomo doesn’t activate too hard.
Unusual dating preference?
Looks more like a Giant Cobra to me. Basilisks are more associated with Petrification, including in D&D which Dungeon Eyes tends to be semi-themed with (Example, Rust monster in Warrens).
We also know that Poison doesnt do unblockable damage, it just adds +X to Y damage to attacks. This one probably has a very High Single Target attack.
I don’t think it is that simple.
Plan: Loot!
Ricki: point out trap again to botania and lara on the bottom level. Move down two and join kamau and open the top chest.
Lara and botania: avoid trap Ricki points out and double move down two rooms to kamau.
Kamau open the lower chest.
Snake looks scary. Hopefully we get a lens or two from the chest.
Or three. There have been chests with three lenses before. Let’s pray.
Kamau doesn’t have any room for loot. Should we have him drop something first?
Darn. I forgot we picked up arrows recently.
LSN, if you read this, please have Kamau drop Stake to make room.
You may way to add this to a direct reply to your original post. Makes it more visible
LSN Please have Kamau drop Stake to make for whatever he loots. Thanks!
Oohhh fuck big-ass snake!
I wonder what can we find in the broken egg, Pet snake?
Also great turn, let’s loot!
One pet per dungeon, search for it, catch it if you can?
At least we know that merely contracting the zombie plague doesn’t set off Kamau’s remorse, that would have a real kick in the teeth.
