Intermission 8 Page 43

“There isn’t much left to tell.”
“The other Champion used their connection to the Emperor to report my actions.”
“My blessings were revoked.”
“We fought.”
“I lost.”
“The goblins were killed regardless.”
“And I was thrown in a cell.”
“My interrogation was brief, and nothing was publicized.”
“The Guard didn’t want anyone knowing that even a Champion could turn traitor, so I wasn’t going to get a trial.”
“It was going to be execution. Soon.”
“But… I did see Saffron one last time.”
“She was furious.”
“I think the Guard was trying to figure out if she might have been involved in my decision, but she made it pretty clear that was not the case.”
“She said I’d betrayed the Empire and destroyed our family. That she never wanted to see me again.”
“And I haven’t.”
“And I dunno what…”
“…I dunno what she told…”
“…our little girl.”
As he sits there it is his scars that bleed heavily, even when he is fresh from the fight and very physically wounded
Those scars have bled all along… the arm doesn’t matter.
Ahh, losing the blessings explains how the other champion was able to defeat him so utterly. Being hopped up on emperor magic must be a huge boost.
So we now know that champions, at least, have a telepathic connection to the emperor that can instantly relay at least decently complex/unexpected information.
Actually going up against him, or being more than a very minor irritation, is starting to sound less like a difficult but possible revolutionary action and more like an epic level campaign.
Gotta grind our peeps up before they get too noticable.
We are kinda late on that. The Guard know that there’s an illegal adventurer party secretly clearing dungeons. AND they know that Kamau, probably the most wanted man in the Empire, is part of that group. I think it’s a miracle that the Emperor hadn’t divined our place yet like he did with goblin camps.
>Illegal adventurer party secretly clearing dungeons
Really doubt this is the biggest issue in the empire. Probably doesn’t warrant the Emperor’s individual attention.
>It has Kamau
That probably DOES.
>It has two goblins who just snuck out of Goblintown
That seems like it might also.
>It has an unlicensed Ringsmif
Also probably warrants some fair attention.
>They’re building a base for people who hate the empire
Reallllyyy hoping that one hasn’t gotten noticed.
So… Hopefully the reports have not been adequately clear that this is all the same party. Or the reports are delayed due to other nonsense going on.
