Dungeon 8 Turn 18
————
Ricki quickly points out the traps on the bottom floor for her allies’ benefit, then gives the remaining merchant a quick love-tap to knock them out. She also loots the 4 gold coins they were carrying, and gives one of the bandits her vanilla shield in exchange for another bandit token.
Below, Kamau drunkenly absorbs the hits from a centipede and a pack of squirrels that were hiding out in the stumps. Cordy rots away the centipede stump, but Lara and her pet don’t quite manage to finish off the squirrel den.
Ricki: go down and left, avoiding all the pressure plates on the fifth screen, and the trap chest, point out the pressure plate on the fourth screen near the guards, avoid that pressure plate, open the gate while Kamau interposes, avoid the pressure plate trap on the fourth screen as you return right one screen, avoid pressure plates on this floor again, return to top of the fifth wagon, go left one screen
Cordy: attack stump (without mushies this time).
Kamau: Go left one screen, avoid the pressure plate trap Ricki pointed out to you, and interpose against guards
Lara and her mushy: Go left one screen, avoid the pressure plate Ricki pointed out to you, and attack a crossbowman.
This plan may not be 100% safe if squirrels decide to randomly attack pets or focus fire on Lara for some reason. Feel free to post alternates.
Why not have Lara attack the stump? Because the stump has at least three atk. She has only 3 def. 1 remorse or more for one action is a bad trade
Following TNIM’s framework:
Ricki: Point out the leftmost only pressure plate trap to Cordy so he avoids it, then move a room left as a group. Point out trap in front of guards so party avoids it, then lockpick the gate before returning to the roof where the big wolf was, avoiding all 3 remaining pressure plate traps on the bottom floor along the way.
Cordy: Keeping your pets safe, walk right until you trigger a trap, then rejoin Ricki before moving left as a group with her. Attack right crossbow guard.
Lara: Follow Ricki left. Attack left crossbow guard.
Mushrooms: 2 attack right crossbow guards, 2 attack left crossbow guard
Kamau: Follow Ricki left. Interpose the guards.
Explanation:
Per TNIM’s framework, ignoring the weak squirrels. We know they do 1 damage each (3 total), not even enough to hurt Lara. And every description of encounters with stumps told us they don’t attack themselves, only the creature(s) inside attack. And our pets are not attacking this screen so they’re safe as well.
Ricki won’t be here to point out traps after this turn so we need to clear them safely: Cordy can facetank one here without damage even if squirrels focus him.
Taking out both naked guards first because we don’t have enough damage without Ricki to garantee defeating 1 armored guard+1 naked guard, let alone 2 armored guard in one turn. This saves bolts, waste less damage and reduce enemy firepower more than just taking out 1 armored guard.
1- We have no data on whether stumps grant the occupants extra damage or not. This risks remorse, because squirrels have at LEAST three atk. If stump grants them even one more, then Lara is effed as she has three def.
2- You are not specifying which traps to avoid or activate for each character. “move as a group” is insufficient phrasing. It’s very likely this leads to the trap on screen 4 activating. Also if the first trap on screen 5 is explosive then it may explode near the party.
3- you’re not specifying Ricki must avoid traps when returning. This will kill us.
1-We know when creatures hit harder than usual due to buffs. For example, see turn 3 of this very dungeon. Never had such mention for stump-hiding monsters, including a squirrel group.
2- What are you even talking about??
I already have Ricki explicitely pointing out the screen 4 trap so our party avoid it.
And no, doing it on every character is not needed, I checked back and spotted several times a selected plan relied on that and none where that was the reason for failure (usually Ricki not being able to be on the same room being the problem). We only need to point them out.
And I am not triggering the first trap on screen 5 at all? Only the middle one.
3- It is true I have mentionned the right pressure plate on room 5(Cordy having already cleaned the middle one by the time Ricki returns) only by comparison. Edited to make explicit, thanks.
Oh, I am not saying they are being buffed. I am saying the stump may have an atk value of its own as it is specifically a monster, and one that has legs to move around too.
As for avoiding traps. It costs you nothing to specify which traps you want avoided, especially since you are pointing out those to be activated. And let me tell you, it HURTS when you miss something simple as that and get ppl blown up because you didn’t want to go to the trouble of specifying something you thought LSN would just parse for you as common sense. He… doesn’t do that, usually, that is the whole point of traps. Just avoid it.
Take a look at any page where we fought stumps. It’s always some form of “Kamau is hit by [name of creature inside]” …and that’s it. No “hit by [name of creature inside] and the stump.” So they do not have their own attacks either. Just a tough bark to protect whatever’s inside.
I am already doing that? I don’t what you’re asking for.
The screen 4 trap was said to be avoided by the party since the first version.
I’ve already added Ricki avoiding all 3 remaining traps on the way back since my previous reply to you.
I like the idea, but the last pressure plate did AoE damage. That might kill all of Cordy’s mush boys.
Nope, Tiny pets are immune to AoE traps too. See turn 5.
