Dungeon 7 Turn 25
————
Ricki lets Molly carry her heavy axe temporarily and drops her last set of lockpicks while she opens the final chest. Inside she finds a wand of fireball! Lohk had one of these a long time ago! This should come in handy dealing with any of the remaining plant monsters.
Macadamia swaps his old shield for the new, heavier one. He’s feeling mighty tanky.
Kamau opens the lone chest in the other half of the loft. Inside he finds two magic lenses. Useful!
As Ricki, Lohk, and Macadamia meet up by the item pile, a delicious chocolate cake suddenly appears in Ricki’s hand!
Happy first anniversary, Dungeon Eyes!
Also, cawing can once again be heard from somewhere off to the left.

BIRTHDAY CAKE
Consumable
Any creature can eat this special treat to recover 1 HP per year that has passed since the first dungeon was crawled.
Weight 1, Cost –
WAND OF FIREBALL
Wand
Deals 3-6 fire damage at range. Can only be used twice per dungeon.
Weight 1, Cost 45
Wow, that wand is incredible! Yeah, it can only be used twice per dungeon, but unlike most of the previous wands we’ve had there’s no chance of it breaking just from use. Plus it’s just a damned good AOE attack. We’d arguably get more out of this if Lohk didn’t learn this wand’s ability, since it’d be competing against a lot of her other abilities (including healing) with a limited resource pool.
Lohk already has this ability. 😉
Unfortunately, it is not an AoE attack. Single-target. AoE attacks are always described as suck (see Salavamander in Kobold Warrens)
I love the typo 😀
But was it a typo? 😉
It sounds like eating this wand would be bad, because it’s being hinted that she already did- hence why she has Fireball as a channel ability.
There’s a chance that a re-consume would result in an upgrade, but I think we would be told if that were possible 🙁
Kamau: go upstairs, interpose with corn knight. If you can only proc the left one without bothering the right do so.
Ricki: Take your axe back from Molly and drop 2 of corn and 5 of the tomatoes from Molly’s packs in the pile, giving Molly the cake and the wand. Go upstairs and attack the left cornknight. If you can only proc the left one without bothering the right do so.
Mac: Take Daisy for a walk to the left (getting us vision of the coop-room, confirming that a rooster & hen have spawned and the crows haven’t somehow invaded), then come back and go upstairs, attacking the left cornknight. If you can only proc the left one without bothering the right do so.
Lohk: Go upstairs and ray of frost the left cornknight. If you can only proc the left one without bothering the right do so.
Daisy: Attack the left cornknight. If you can only proc the left one without bothering the right do so.
Squirrel: Climb on Kamaus head for a better view. Dream of eating cheese. One day your time shall come.
Thanks to Jingles for the bulk of this
Reasoning, current longer term planning:
This fight will cost Kamau 2 HP (in the extremely unlikely event that somehow the right-hand corn knight doesn’t immediately join in, I guess we’ll skate by without damage). We’re going to finish off both corn knights, so we can have safe access to the Rat Tunnel and Weathervane
Next turns will look like this:
Turn 26: Kill Left Corn. Kamau most likely takes 2HP damage, leaving him with 5HP.
Turn 27: Kill Right Corn. Maca can use extra MOV to check the coop again (it’s free, why not)
Turn 28: Kamau interposes the centipedes. Lohk goes through tunnel and scares Potato with torch. Ricki and Maca go through both tunnels and kill the 2 squirrels on the chest. This risks 1-2 points of Remorse if all the mobs attack one person (this is an okay amount of remorse). Lohk has a spare action (ideas?)
Turn 29: Kamau interposes the centipedes. Ricki loots the chest and all the smalls exit the tunnel. Lohk and Maca have spare actions (ideas?).
Turn 30: We take another ATK debuff and interact with stuff. Probably poke the weathervane/start positioning ourselves to deal with the coop or the Skelly/Stalkroach chest. Note that we’re risking up to 4HP damage on Kamau if the Stalkroach attacks him instead of the chest opener, which would leave him with 1 absent further healing. We’ll also most likely have further crow activity (wtf is going on out there).
I would like to try using a lens on Manny to see if it is still an option and or exit. Also, we can get Lholk to use Mom Sense to move her great distances if need be
Expected Loot:
Rat Chest Contents
2x Corn Spear
2x Corn
Additional Objectives:
Safe access to Weathervane
Celebration plan:
We should find a candle or maybe use the remains of one of the plant monsters as one, put it on the cake, use the Wand of Fireball to light the candle because we’ve got to use it for something, blow out the candle, then eat the cake. I see no other way to eat the Birthday Cake.
Happy Birthday! 😛
Edit because this is the most up voted “plan”: This is a suggestion on what to do to celebrate, not what to do this turn. LSN, please don’t make us use a turn to celebrate. Let’s wait until after the Dungeon to do this.
…sing Happy Birthday, then blow out the candle, then eat the cake.
Just a side note: LENS! TWO! We can scan not only the mammoth, and either the huge pumpkin, or crow, or bosscrow (risky as hell, but, we “can”)… but when shall we start?
This plan is to set up for Using Lens on Manny and figuring out Coop. This would mean giving up on all the combats to get the single Rat chest.
Kamau: Move down and extra move to the right ledge above Manny
Ricki: Move left and put 2 more corn in Coop (or just one if you cant do 2)
Mac: Move left and attack a Rooster (if one spawned) or a chicken.
Lohk: Move left and push bale of hay to the right (to next screen if you can)
Next turn would depend on outcome of coop, but we’d also Use lens on Manny to see if we can fight/tame it.
LSN hasn’t shown us that any more chickens have spawned by coop when people have walked through so there should just be 2 chickens still. If any DO spawn next round they wont attack.
We should be expecting at least 3 chickens & a rooster, but LSN didn’t draw it (and Lohk would have passed through there, so who knows what’s going on?) Maybe the corn DID slow down spawns, and now it’s spawning every 10 turns instead of every 5? Who knows!
We can’t take out the corn knights in one turn if we don’t do it before turn 30. I really think we should do that fight now while it’s possible, instead of regretting it later when we can’t do it.
I think the weathervane is tied to the coop — I don’t see anything obvious to do but feed the coop more corn otherwise… and killing corn knights gets us more corn to experiment with as well as access to the weathervane.
We can still lens Manny and determine if we’re going to do anything about him, and we actually have quite a bit of ranged damage now (we could do 2 fireballs and a shot from the Hunter’s Bow in 1 round), so we have a decent source of damage that won’t get penalized if we need to fight late.
First of all: Happy anniversary LSN. It’s incredible that this game/comic has been running for a year already and I hope there will be still lots more to come!
Secondly: we should totally use the lenses to learn more about creatures. (maybe that could be part of the actions Jerf is looking for, when Lohk and/or Macadamia are idle? Of course Kamau would have to trade the lenses away first…)
Awwww, I was almost hoping that we could EVERYONE have a slice of cake, so everyone (who has HP missing) can recover one. (Ricki, Kamau, Macadamia and even Molly are each missing at least one HP.) Even if that is not an option, can we maybe light the candle with the torch and sing a happy birthday song and then have everyone get at least a nibble of the cake “off camera” (or non-canon, but ON camera, please)? It seems wrong to let just one person/char/pet enjoy it.
(And yuck, imagine letting the cake “ripen” in game for a couple more years, so you can get more HP out of eating it. *shudders*)
Not that this is the best strategy or anything, but I bet we’d all like to see LSN draw this:
Magic Fireball + Chickens + Grain => BBQ Chicken sandwiches
Fireball + Corn Knight => POPCORN
great 🙂 I’d also like to see gravity-powered magicrow-rain 🙂
Here’s a plan to prioritize looting the chest from the Skeletons, on the theory that the crows may cut off access on turn 30. This would allow us to loot the skeleton chest, and the rat chest, and hopefully still access the coop/weathervane if the crows aren’t completely cutting us off from access.
Ricki: Give cake to Kamau, get lens, give Wand to Lohk, get Staff, Move left 2x (get eyes on Punk)
Lohk: get wand from Ricki, move left
Maca: drop your shield, get lens, move right
Kamau: Do above trades, move left.
Additionally, we’re getting the Wand of Fireballs on Lohk for extra burny goodness (+1 fire damage from robe), while Ricki retains the bow for ranged attacks later. Maca is leaving his sword behind temporarily so he can lens Manny next turn, then pick up the sword again, hopefully in time to attack the Stalkroach as it runs by later.
And the cake is on Kamau just in case we have a free action to eat it and regain some hp later.
Vague future plans:
t26 setup & move (this set of actions)
t27 loot skelechest, -4 Kamau hp, 3hp left, Maca lenses Manny
t28 Party moves right, Maca retrieves his sword
t29 Party moves up & kills 1st corn knight -2 Kamau hp (he’s at 1)
t30 bummer, we’re still fighting, thanks stacking debuff but at least the fight is safe. Maybe use a fireball here to save a turn?
t31? kill 2nd corn knight, lots of spare actions here if we’re still fighting
t32? enter rat hole & kill squirrels, eyes on coop room again to see if the Crows are there
t33? loot & exit rat hole
t34? prep manny, final inventory loadouts
t35? drop haybale and GTFO
If we get good news on t31/32 (crows aren’t in coop yet) we may have some room to fit in further attempts at interacting with the Weathervane & Coop.
Expected Loot:
Skeleton Chest Contents
Rat Chest Contents
A Stalkroach ruining our lives
2x Corn Spear
2x Corn
Additional Objectives:
Safe access to Weathervane
Lens on Manny
Additional Lens on ??? (Magicrow, Bosscrow, Pumpkin?)
Safely get eyes on left side of barn after Turn 30
