“So, in the interest of bringing more people into this little project, I’ve taken the liberty of finding a handful of dungeons that are causing problems for the locals, and which the Guard has been dragging their feet on.”
“Sounds like a good idea to me. What’ve you got?”
“Well, first of all, one of the nearby farms turned weeks ago.”
“Wait, like, the barn is a dungeon?”
“No, the entire farm.”
“An outdoor dungeon? That can happen?”
“Sure. They’re easier to get away from if you need to, but otherwise the same as any other.”
“Anyway, it seems that the livestock and crops themselves have become dungeon monsters, and occasionally emerge to attack the neighbours. This might be a chance not only to gain some goodwill, but also to secure some seeds to get things started here.”
“If there really are a lot of plant monsters here, it might be a good idea to bring a way to deal fire damage.”
“Second, there’s an old pre-Imperial tomb up in the hills. Zombies have been wandering out of it.”
“Actual for real zombies? The bitey, infecty kind?”
“I don’t think anyone’s been willing to get bit to confirm it, but possibly. The Guard has blockaded the pass leading to the tomb, but there’s another way in. Which means there’s another way OUT, so it might be a good idea to take care of this before we have another plague on our hands.”
“Yeah, Lohk told me stories about the last zombie plague. It sounds bad.”
“It’s pretty bad.”
“If you’re heading for the tomb, all the standard anti-undead items will help you out.”
“Finally, there’s a little village a few days off that had their well turn into a dungeon. Since then, any water they’ve pulled out has been badly poisoned. This one’s fairly recent, so maybe the Empire will sort it out for them, but it’d be good for us if we could take care of it first.”
“I’m sure you know by now how dangerous small, cramped, underwater dungeons can be, but at least you don’t have to worry about this one flooding over time. It’s starting that way. Not gonna lie, this one might be tough.”
“If you go for it, expect lots of poison and little oxygen.”
“Hmmm…”
Like this post to go the Overgrown Farm!
Folks, we have little in the way of resources, that’s the truth. We need to take the easier-to-escape-from dungeon first.
Looks like this option is going to be it. (votes are 22 for this option and 2 each for the other options at the time of writing this post.)
So, since Paws suggested bringing ways of dealing fire damage:
We should probably bring Lohk (fireball spell) and some torches (I don’t think we have seen any options in the wand category yet that would deal fire damage, nor any enchantments for weapons/rings). Since torches can be destroyed, if used to attack stuff, it would be best to bring spares. (A good thing that torches are cheap, but they will still take up inventory space.)
This reminds me, btw. should we maybe apply the entchantment (currently in Lohks inventory) permanently on one of our weapons (ideally using a char’s HP that we leave behind, so they can regenrated them until we are back) before moving out?
We most certainly can’t use the scroll in any dungeon where we bring Kamau with any other char than Kamau, or else he’ll leave instantly due to remorse (unless the applying of the spell permanently counts as “self-inflicted” the same way that the cigarettes work in regard for remorse).
I’m a little bummed out not to see any “character quest” dungeon options appear yet, seeing how both Kamau and Lara have maxed out their bondlevel to the cap.
I was looking for that type of dungeon as well. Using a character that we leave behind to use the scroll also will mean that the weapon itself will be left behind. Even so, that is a good option if we can afford it.
We should make sure to put the robe on Lohk for fire damage too. LSN confirmed on discord that “damage that you take when using an item or ability don’t (sic.) count towards Remorse”, so the scroll functions just like cigarettes (and this was confirmed specifically in response to questions about the scroll and remorse). That being said, only Lohk, Lara, or Kamau could survive the damage outside of simultaneous enchant and heal shenanigans, and I feel like Lara is most likely to be left behind for this dungeon.
We can’t use the scroll between dungeons just like how we can’t smif rings or absorb wands between dungeons. It’s a cost.
Vulnerable to fire might not be that useful, the only vulnerability we’ve seen is when the Faithless couldn’t apply defense against holy damage. A torch would just be a wand of Death Touch if that’s the case, and Fireball would only benefit if no-one else was attacking that target.
Even double fire damage would only turn a torch into a conditional, breakable longsword. The Farm is outside so probably light everywhere.
Of course, if this is of the planted-grave-flower case where one fire damage instakills, then all is good. I just wouldn’t get my hopes up.
Like this post to go to the Broken Tomb!
If we go to the Broken Tomb, I *strongly* recommend checking if it’s a dumbie plague first. We’ve already met a kidney pincher, and got lucky. We’re so not ready for Baddie McBadBad Crackoom.
Like this post to go to the Poisoned Well!
Zombies attacks, starvation? Or imperials noticing. The last one seems the most pressing to me.
Last time we thought we didn’t have time to do a cramped underwater dungeon, we totally had time. If we had to do this right now, it would be clear.
We can buy iron boots back for this dungeon, and the extra move should let us dive, loot chests or flip levers, and then retreat back to air. Still, I’d be more comfortable going down there if Macadamia could Dig out of a bad spot.
Look at squirrel already helping out!
And apparently even kobolds have trouble telling other kobolds apart from one another, or else the adult one wouldn’t have been wondering about the number of kids but pointed out the “new” one easily saying something along the lines “hey, I don’t know you, who are you?”
Or maybe the mimic copied the face of one of the children, so even the parents didn’t notice there’s an extra kid at first. And even when they noticed, they probably wouldn’t know who’s the real one if the mimic didn’t reveal itself.
Also, I guess there will be mimics in dungeons from now on. This scene is definitely a hint.
But the why? Plot, test, hint or brainfart, only on twitch we might ever know…
… oh my gosh where’s Kevin?!
So it was a mimic. Interesting!
