Intermission 4 Page 4

“Wow! This sounds great!”
“I’m not so sure. Do you have any idea who this person even is?”
“No, but we didn’t know any of the people around the chapel either. We decided to help them on our own, but this is basically just someone reaching out to us for help, right?”
“And if we can stay on these estate grounds instead of in the city, we can plant a garden and not have to worry about food so much!”
“Ricki, just saying, but the last time someone told me I could sleep somewhere for free, I ended up in a cult.”
“You’re staying with me and Lohk for free.”
“…Wait, does that mean I DIDN’T have to go to the sewer dungeon?”
“Well, if you DO decide to leave town…”
“I thought you said this wasn’t your business.”
“…if you DO decide to leave town, I’ve got a couple of ways through the outer walls that even a trio of wanted criminals can use. But they become less reliable if you use them over and over, you know what I mean?”
“So once you leave, you probably won’t be coming back to the capital for a while. Best to tie up any loose ends before you go.”
“How do you know I’M a criminal?”
“You associated with me.”
“That isn’t making me any more confident that this “friend” of yours is trustworthy.”
“I’ll vouch for them only so far as to say that they’re not in the habit of telling lies. You’re right to be cautious. Stay that way.”
Alright, sounds like going to the Estate is moving to the next chapter. Definitely want to check out the Warrens next then instead of jumping right into this.
I wonder what other loose ends might come up. At some point, it’s better to pack up what you have and move on rather than trying to squeeze more out of what is in reach. We have a hinted ally at the Warrens, but there’s likely to be other potential allies and other opportunities outside the Capital that we won’t be able to find until we move on.
Still, full party first.
Also, uncharacteristic slip from Paws, acknowledging he knows enough about who this is to tell us this isn’t a lie and isn’t safe.
Loose ends:
.
on Rat King. He is a chasing Boss. We keep seing him in Dungeon after Dungeon.
I do not want to know what him buffed to Arc 2 will look like
Considering how unique of an enemy (I assume, might be entire faction for all i know) he is we are missing on a cool loot. Even if we kill him, or his replacement next arc. We misssout on Arc 1 Special-Boss loot.
Yeah, Arc 1 Special-Boss loot is the sort of thing I can live with missing. Drops are listed on the Enemies page, Rat Hide Armour has good odds of being a +2 armour which would max out the effectiveness of Ricki’s Light Armour Proficiency, plus probably some rat-related ability. The Crown is almost definitely treasure and could do something else as a head accessory.
It is a bit odd that the Estate is only a few hours from the Capital when we won’t be able to effectively return due to security, but that does simplify the question of how we get there. Crossing an ocean would be a more obviously permanent departure but that would raise the question of how we get to the next dungeon, and the adventures here are the dungeons. It’s also possible we might eventually return to the capital.
Guards would be much more watchful about people coming in to threaten the capital, or something inside it, than about the washwomen going out to their mom’s farm, to cite an example.
It’s possible this just means it will take a while for the Guard to forget about them and not be on the lookout, which makes sense – without things like radios and computers, it’s harder to not unconsciously think “Yeahhh, probably someone caught these guys by now, or they died, or whatever, haven’t heard about them in a while. I can forget about them.”
I am Ardon, and I appreciate this plan of killing the recurring enemy as soon as possible.
When I first heard of them, that they had killed nearly all of my people living in Jail-Dungeon, I thought the report exaggerated. Then those evil home-invaders killed a lot of my people in the tavern, stole our belongings, devastated the rooms, shut down our food (cheeze), and brought the imperial guard into our home. I thought that it was villainy at its extreme. But, what do you know? They invaded even the church and kept slaughtering my people! A blood-drinking cultist was set free by them! We had to retread to the sewers and put three grates before the panic room. They slaughtered the security guards as well as some of our lodgers, the beavers, and pillaged everything. An explosion shook the room. The Red One was killed. Two grates were passed. We had to flee when the sewers flooded again. Why do they keep chasing us?!
Rat King Ralph LXVI.
Wow, look at Rickis eyes. Clearly she is under the spell of the star-wolf-sigil. 😀
Yes! I told that it could be dangerous to read/open/take the scroll!!! )))
Those are just Steven Universe eyes. No curse there! Unfortunately, it does mean she’s probably a protagonist, which means her life is full of peril. Someone should point that out to her.
Starry eyes in cartoon characters existed before 2013. Walt Disney was drawing starry eyes on Mickey Mouse in the Steamboat Willie days.
Definitely find a temple to Regenerate Kamau’s arm before heading out into the countryside where there won’t be any clerics.
Right. The guard are looking for a one armed man. Great idea to have Kamau go to (the equivalent of) a hospital in that case.
Surely the authorities will not have thought of looking for him there or …you know, have instructed every single temple that is capable of such feats, or in fact any healing at all (dungeoneering is dangerous work, after all, and they KNOW he was wounded badly in the tavern dungeon) to report any one-armed humanoids approaching them to said authorities, maybe even stall them, until the authorities arrive.
(That’s sarcasm, by the way, in case you couldn’t tell.)
I cannot understand this weird obsession with refusing to pursue a Regeneration of Kamau’s arm, an obvious quest goal. Even sarcastically. I get this big pushback every time I bring it up.
I don’t get it. This whole campaign has a theme of “everything is broken, bring it back to normal”. Rusty swords, unreliable breaky armor, failure rates. Everything screams “your goal is to dump this garbage and improve it until it’s reliable.” Likewise Kamau’s arm, which as a warrior he definitely can use. A warrior in heavy armor is crying out for a two-handed sword. Kamau even has a shield bash attack ability, and how’s he going to do that with one arm?
When someone posts an idea that I think is potentially harmful/dangerous to Ricki and her companions, then I will usually speak up, pointing out the potential danger that I see. (Whether or not I am right about this danger is another story, but I will voice my concerns.)
This pertains, but is not limited to your posts or to having Kamau try to get his arm regenerated and in that process waltz somewhere he will most likely have another (unnecessary) run-in with the guard.
So in this case I am not necessarily objecting to WHAT you want to do rather than the HOW.
That being said, I’d like you to consider this: We don’t even know if there is regenrative means (magic or otherwise) available in this world strong enough to regenerate missing limbs, nor do we know how readily available it is (like is this a service that you can get at any street corner or do you have to do an epic quest line first to convince the only person powerful enough to do this for you that you are worthy). That is just an assumption of yours, so where you are getting that this is a “clear goal” is beyond me. Yes, we have seen Lohk help Kamau with the wound on his chest and we have come across a “wand of mend”, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that there are means to regenrate more than mere HP.
Besides, we also don’t know if Kamau would WANT his arm regenerated. Just because -you- want that to happen, doesn’t mean he has to want that, too.
So I would appreciate it if you could do all of the following:
a) don’t accuse me of obession, when you are the one super-determined to achieve something we don’t even know yet whether or not it is possible to achieve
b) accept that if you post your opinion on any topic publically in a place where other people can post, too, other people will most likely react by posting their opinion on that topic, too. And accept that there is also a good chance that there will not only be people posting with the same point of view as yours.
c) let LSN do what he does best, namely tell this (HIS!) story and see how it develops (if Kamau wants his arm to be re-generated and it is actually possible in general in this world that LSN has created and the party comes across one such opportunity, you can be sure that it will come up at some point in this comic, trust me on this. I have witnessed LSN telling stories for more than a decade now and he is unlikely to “forget” something as important as this).
EDIT:removed typo
I think that as long as Lokh knows how to cure the wound and also helped with the stump she seems to be some sort of a healer. And it is possible she knows more (including how to regenerate some part of a body or who can help with this… )
So, maybe, she can help with the topic (if Ricki asks or the story goes this way).
(if Kamau wants his arm to be re-generated and it is actually possible in general in this world that LSN has created and the party comes across one such opportunity, you can be sure that it will come up at some point in this comic, trust me on this.
He expects his players to have agency and do what needs to be done.
Assuming there’s some kind of roadblock in the way is foolish. I just don’t see Kamau being removed from the party in a cutscene. Nope.
On the other hand, I think making inquiries about a temple that can cast Regenerate is basic RPG’ing. Kamau is missing an arm; it’s obvious that he should get it back. It ain’t gonna happen unless we make it happen. Let’s do this thing. What the heck is the harm in making inquiries? Jesus people.
Ask Kamau: do you need your arm back? The one that you had your whole life up until not long ago? The one that you assume is still there until you try to use it? Let’s go find a temple to cast Regenerate!
I just don’t see how this is controversial or “harmful”. It’s a damn cleric spell, it’s literally not harmful.
This is the first time on this page you wrote about wanting to go -asking- about this. Before you only wrote
which might very well be interpreted as going there without the necessary caution. THAT is what I was objecting to (and what I perceive as potentially dangerous), which you could already know, if you had fully read and understood my previous post (“waltz somewhere”, “another (unnecessary) run-in with the guard” and “not necessarily objecting to WHAT you want to do rather than the HOW.”).
The party already had 2 (close) encounters with the guard (in the tavern dungeon the guy with the dog – which would have gotten Kamau KILLED and therefore very much removed from the party, if he didn’t have dauntless I; so yes, very harmful – and after the chapel we barely avoided them, thanks to the help of monkey, hobgoblin showing us the alley and orc, who most likely distracted them), I would rather not make that 3.
Even inquiring about this might turn out to be risky (depending on who our characters ask), but it is a lot better than just walking into such a temple (if it exists) through the front door and yell for services (which is not a wording you suggested, I acknowledge that).
I don’t see why you deem your assumptions (“there is a way to regenerate missing limbs available in this world in general and in this town in particular and it is going to be made available even to a wanted fugitive, who doesn’t have much of anything to offer in return for these invaluable services”) to be any more valid than mine (“going into (official) places that do away with undesireable known traits of wanted fugitives is likely to result in drawing the guards attention”), but I disagree (both are valid >suspicions< about this world Ricki lives in).
I mean we already have established that within the guard, there are people worth their salt (the guy with the dog in the tavern dungeon, at very least, and possibly the guy who cost Kamau his arm (see the prologue on the Ko-fi page) in the first place who may or may not be the same guy; I noticed the weapons used were different between the two scenes. Mind you, by “worth their salt” I refer to their abilitiy to track respectively subdue, harm and/or kill Kamau, I’m not making any statement about their character traits or their morality), so suspecting they might monitor places where Kamau could theoretically gain his arm back (if those exist in the first place) isn’t that much of a stretch.
Concerning your comment
I’d like to point out that in the last dungeon-de-briefing stream LSN explicitly told us that if food is going to be a mechanic/issue in the game, he’ll let us know. (People – me among them – were worried about our characters possibly getting affected by the “malnourished” trait.)
It seems illogical to me not to expect LSN acting in a similar manner (letting us know that/when this is an option/issue) with Kamau’s arm, but of course you’re entitled to have your own opinion on that.
In addition, we have seen in the past that we have little to no influence over what happens in the intermissions (notable exception: what gets sold/bought).
But it doesn’t hurt to try and get Ricki to ask Kamau about his arm and whether or not limbs can be regenerated in this world at all.
However, this is the second time in this discussion thread that you have targeted my behaviour (“obsession” and “Assuming […] is foolish”), rather than address the idea/topic at hand. That is unacceptable, refrain from doing so in the future, if you wish to continue discussing with me.
Surely every healer is willing to follow the demands of the authorities. Take Lohk, for example!
Well, that depends: The Temple of the god*dess of agriculture, fertility, wildlife, fishery, … might very well be in the rural countryside and not in that ghastly metropolis. But it certainly would be wise to check things first, and not leave the town and then get to know that any regeneration service is inside said town. Do temples accept quest-solving as payment for regeneration in this world?
That’s an option?!?!?!?
It’s not an option we’ve seen, and we don’t really control the story outside of dungeons that much (besides shopping and maybe choose which dungeon we do next.
I’m saying we should ask everyone we know where the temple is that can cast Regenerate. I really don’t see how this is such a big deal or how it’s somehow forbidden and we’re going to get a 50% XP penalty from the DM for even bringing it up.
Just friggen ask!
Not everyone. Both rumors and information do spread. I doubt ‘regenerate’ is generic enough to cover all kinds of health problems including missing limbs. If we start asking everyone, some will start complaining or just gossiping, and the guards will eventually hear someone is asking for a very specific thing. Ask, but those who are relatively safe, and relatively likely to know the answer. Paws. Lohk. Kamau. Lara. Geesh. That’s already 4 people either very knowledgeable or interested in the matter, four SAFE people to ask and possibly immediately learn whever it’s doable twice a day or nearly impossible in this world.
